It starts with bad and ends with personnel decisions.

I went with Other for all of the above. #1, they've only been in two playoff games the last four years. Last year and the year before they didn't get to the playoffs. Four years ago they lost to Timmuh Tebow who put up over 300 yards and hasn't thrown a pass in the NFL since (?) and this year was one-and-done for mostly the same reason, defense and pass defense, although injuries to critical people the last few years hasn't helped. This year the team stayed the healthiest they've been in quite some time and they were still out after the first round.

I would say that is reason #1. From 2006-2011 the Steelers played in three super bowls. Almost a Dynasty. Those were the days! But as Bill Cowher's best players aged Colbert and Tomlin's coaching and GM moves have cost us. I do think Colbert has been a little better drafting as of late, but his free agency moves have cost us, as has our cap management in terms of keeping older declining vets, and paying them out as if they were in their primes.

Tomlin and Haley's contract is up in 2016. Colbert's contract is up at the end of 2015, I think. If we do not win a playoff game in five seasons, I think Rooney has things lined up for a big time change.

Is rebuilding an option?

The year we lost to Tebow, we were one of the oldest teams in the league with an average age of ~32. Nearly 5 years older than the NFL average. Of course there was going to be some turnover/transition period. What teams (that arent in crappy divisions) have won playoff games while rebuilding?

they have been rebuilding just at a slow pace.....

You can win playoff games rebuilding. Be one or two impact players away from winning it all. Thats just not the Steelers. They are about at least three player short.

But hell two good free agents and two draft picks with good play and who knows?

But those areas will need to be at OLBer and CB and FS.

Options 2 & 3 fall under Option 1, so it was the first choice for me.

I went with other for all of the above reasons. The biggest being poor drafts and poor coaching.

Poor drafting lack of pass rush and below average DB play.

draft..draft draft draft. If you don't replace the stars you have through the draft the future of your team will get the shaft!

I think it has something to do with us not scoring more than the other team.

easily predictable blitzes and formations, aging DB's key players not playing when needed i.e Woodley Polamalu Clark.
Poor drafting and reaching on certian players key reason, lack of depth 2012 no decent DT behind Hampton. Just DL defence to complicated that CB like lewis curtis brown joe burnett eithier took to long to underatand it or it was just to complex.

we'll see what Butler brings

get some corners that can cover one on one and see what happens....don't be afraid to start all rookies
