Listening to the Fan this morning and they're playing all these clips:

DK Metcalf saying this is the best defense he's ever seen
JPJ saying we have 3 elite cover corner
Deshon Elliot saying this is the best defense in the NFL
Payton Wilson saying he's the best cover LB in the world
Tomlin saying we can cover any team

I understand you have to be confident as an athlete, but shut up, we haven't done a damn thing in a decade, why are we already talking?
 
C'mon Mr. Fuddy Duddy and your old school mindset. These are the NEW Steelers. They are all on the hype train and marketing themselves as the greatest EVEH! LONG gone are the days where players shut their yaps and prove it on the field. Actions > Words no longer holds true.

The team has taken on the identity of the leader HC known for overlooking.

It’s common knowledge that you don’t got shitz, until you prove it and even then you must do it continuously.

This “cover any team” is a statement that can and will come back to haunt you. Big H-E-A-D statement.

All I can do is “HOPE”, that’s all I’ve got.

I don't think it means a whole lot either way. Will play out on the field. But when you have to talk your way into something.........

All I’ll add….We shall see if they can back those so called sound bites up.
Oh, they’re going to get every opportunity to do so when the real games start come September.
OTAs, mini camp, training camp, and even preseason games mean little to me as far as seeing the real product. That will come in September when the live action starts, when offenses and defenses start planning and scheming.
We shall see if all the sound bites will be backed up or not.

The thing is. We could have the best players and all but if they are not put in a position to succeed their success might not be that great. Or not at all.

Until Tomlin shows change in his schemes and philosophy......our D won't ever be a shut down Defense.

When are we filming the pre Super Bowl music video? Thank god that we had a coach before who didn't put up with any crap.

Good, I love it because coachspeak is boring. Now go back it up!

But in reality, DK is probably hyping up his guys and the defense has been playing lights out in camp. This defense should one of the best groups we've had in years.

JPJ isn't wrong. It's the best group the Steelers have had in a really long time.

I don't see anything wrong with what Payton Wilson said when you read his full quote. I mean, didn't they draft him because they expected him to be one of the best cover ILBs in the NFL?

“I feel like I'm one of the better cover linebackers in the world, to be honest,” Wilson said. “I feel like any tight end, any running back that lines up out there, I'm willing to go toe-to-toe with them.”

I'm fine with it. It's good to see some confidence again on the D instead of the timid crap, being afraid to give other teams builtin board material from the last few years. I like to see a team that says they are going to punch you in the mouth, then go out and play their best to try and do it instead of being afraid to make someone upset. Let them talk the talk, then we hold them to it and let them have it if they suck.
