It's not the blocking. The OL is very good, and the addition of McDonald gives us a top blocking TE.

Yet Bell is down from 4.9 yards a carry to 3.9 yards a carry and his yards per catch is down from 8.2 yards per catch to 6.3-yard per catch. Why the drop off from 2016 to 2017?

He hasn't scored as a receiver either in 2017 and has fumbled twice this season, which for Bell is historically rare.

A workhorse for sure ( and he'll wear down later in the season because Tomlin is overusing him now ) but he really hasn't been all-star material outside of maybe two games of eight.

You suck

He started the season not in football shape. Missing camp is huge for getting into rhythm. We played one full game and part of another without Foster at LG and have missed Gilbert for the last 2-3(?). That makes a huge difference as Hubbard is a god damned sieve at RT and Finney is blah.

The whole offense is out of sync if you ask me. The bye week is a perfect time to get things dialed in, get the injuries time to heal and get ready for the second half of the season.

Also anyone else tired of all the running out of shotgun? What ever happened to true play action. We have a back lbs have to respect and WRs that can't all be covered.

Why are Bell's numbers down?

NFL RBs yardage leaders

1. Le'Veon Bell PIT 760 2. Kareem Hunt KC 717 3. Ezekiel Elliott DAL 690 4. Jordan Howard CHI 662 5. Todd Gurley LA 627

Coach not one of yinz better threads..........

I just don't understand why one game we come out Power I with Nix plowing people over and Bell has a huge game and the next week it's all shotgun runs and single back formations. Wtf?

Because .... Haley

Why you guys continue to respond to these ridiculous threads I'll never know.

Because he is a troll but he is our troll and he needs to be fed.

I don't even think he's a troll .. I just think he's bipolar

Can't get on board with this.

As bipolar is strong words to throw around.........

I know I was on the receiving end of ones wrath growing up.

I wouldn't label him with something that harsh.

Troll or meathead perhaps..... but not bipolar.

I thought McDonald sat out last night?
Detroit will not be the last team the Steelers play that will stack the box and spy Lev Bell in an attempt to force the Steelers into 3rd & long. Taking what Detroit was giving and a phenomenal Defensive effort was all that was needed.
Coach, did you take your meds today?

I think this is a fair question. Bell only had four games last year under 4.0 yards per carry (five if you include playoffs and he was injured against NE). He already has five games below 4.0 yards per carry this year. While he does seem to be hitting his stride and making some great plays, his numbers are down. I think it is a combination of an offensive line without Gilbert and an erratic passing game.

Well our passing game has been below the line. The opposing teams defense has been able to key on Bell a bit more. Or he is on the down side of his career. I think I saw one of his wheels a bit wobbling. Looked like it was about to fall off.

I think several factors go into his YPC. One of them being an OC who doesn't put his players in a very good position. Haley relies a lot on just Bell's athleticism, meaning Haley just takes Bell for granite and doesn't do much in way of helping him out. Pour play selection and scheme, I mean how many one back sets does Bell get to run out of?????? How telegraphed is a run play??????? Pass play??????? Another is the injuries along the offensive line and that speaks for itself. Third culprit is "DEFENSE" is keying and adjusting better to Bell's style of play as that patientness helps Bell but it seems less help this year. He is missing some holes as his style has let them close, to a degree. Add all these up and you have a lower YPC average. I'm glad he leads the league in yards but also realize he is taking a lot of touches / abuse along the way............. do the words "wheels fall off" have any meaning to our coaches???? Connor will be our feature back before end of season so why not give him more touches now....... what the hell are you saving him for..... someone for JAMES to talk to.......???

I think this team should watch how Penn State uses Barkley. They go empty back, then run Barkley to the backfield, moving a linebacker. It gives the QB a better read of the Defense, and there is now a run pass option.

The only list Bell would be low on is BIG runs. You kniw some TD run over 30+ yards. That's the only hole I see in his game. I'd like to see a FB &TE plowing the road a lot more. That may help produce that.

I'd be all for that as opposed to a one back set. This is a great example to "HELP" the player out that our OC seems to ignor. That's the point I was trying to make. Our OC needs help helping our payers.

Talking football is a lost cause with you, its a fair question.

I think its a mix of coaching, Bell not being as good as he was last year, and some OL injuries.

I'll say injuries to the OL plus a **** ton of video tape on Bell that makes the defenders more aware on what his tendecies are, I mean every D coordinator has to emphasize how to defend the run exclusively for a player that has his own unique style of running and an OL that works in zones for him. I bet it takes 50% of their preparation time when they have to play the Steelers

He is the nfl's leading rusher. What else would you like?? After his slow start due too his Hold out. The Oline slow start. He is still NFL's leading rusher. With room to play better...Again what the **** do you want???
