Who is going to be the right tackle to start the season?

Feiler, Banner or Okorafor?

You obviously spent a lot of thought and put a lot time in formulating who would win the start equivalent to how much time you put into NFL draft YouTube preparation. While you are kicking back with your feet elevated on your dashboard of your luxury Datsun B210, I would imagine whomever wins the job in training camp will get the start and how their performance goes early will dictate any Oline shuffling from that point on in time. I look forward to your next created thread in which you ponder, "is the earth truly round?". Well if you circular your window licks in a continuous pattern you might come up with that answer on your own.

Hard to say. Reports suggest Feiler will move to Guard so the battle is between Chucks and Banner. Banner is a fan favorite, but Chucks is reportedly the better player. I have not seen enough of either to give an opinion on them. That said, if both struggle, I could see Feiler moving back to RT adn letting Steve W. take the Guard spot. I don't think that will happen though. I think Chucks will win the spot and Banner will continue to play Jumbo sets.

With Banner you have a guy that when Foster went down he still didn't get the nod, Chucks received that honor. If I had to cherry pick a player to start without training camp giving them their due process my money would be on the player with starts at tackle and guard. The more experienced game time player. As you said it is known Feiler will move to G to start the process. This is how I break it down in a world made of Steel made of stone but being is believing.

Banner. Feiler is going to guard.

If Chuks was better than banner he would have been the one in the jumbo sets.

I think Feiler's play at gaurd will be a determining factor in who gets the RT position. If Feiler has any difficulties at gaurd he goes right back the RT and then I think Wisnikie (spell ?) comes in at gaurd. This is why TRAUNING CAMP is so important but with C-19 has been deminished and the coaches are looking at proven game day experience as things progress.

As slash pointed out, Okorafor got the start against the Rams when Feiler slid over to guard. Him and Banner bring different styles of play to the position, but I think Okorafor is the guy to start the year at RT.

good news is a lot of other teams have a lot more questions. I think that the Steelers showed they have plan. I think we may have more question at lb depth. but, overall I think we in as good a shape as anyone

Still don't know why Feiler has to slide to LG with Wisniewski now in the mix.

I think they want to give the youth on the roster a chance but it is very possible that RT Feiler and LG Wis could very well be the winning combination. I think they view Wis more of an emergency option than a long term solution. Let us hope they don't get BigBen killed in the process of figuring it out, because this Oline battle could very well determine the season by performing well deep into the post season or pop their balloons. And there is no party if the balloons get popped.

Coach asked a simple question. Do you ever give it a rest? You are such a TOOL.

Banner is still a but to heavy lets see if he has shed wieght Chukes has the skill and speed to play RT, banner is more a good extra blocker. Fielier for this year goes to LG, and next year dotson starts there

Hi troll I think cooch can speak for himself unless you are taking on the role of concerned girlfriend. Any ribbing he get is deserved as any negs you get are deserved. hi.

Barring injuries, this year is not the deciding option for all three. Chuks could lose out starting and become the swing tackle this year and start at LT next year if Al isn’t retained. Depending on the youngsters Gray and Dotson growth, LG may not be Feiler’s future. There could be a Feiler/Banner decision after the season if Banner breaks out and plays extremely well. Dotson, if he shines during camp could definitely be our future LG.

To the trolls, this is a football question, and debate so go **** yourself. The board itself has been quiet. When a good topic come up, try adding to it.

Our OL is in the process of going from Good to suspect, which started about the time Munchak left Tomlin to coach elsewhere.

RT is a position you don't screw around with. Last camp Fieler beat out Chuks in 2 weeks. The gap was that wide. Chucks doesn't get much push in the running game ( a problem for the Steelers ) nor is he agile. He doens't stand out with size either.

Banner did well in a limited role, but he has been cut from many teams, and IMO needs to watch his weight as he would be the slowest footed among the starting NFL tackles. Speed rushers will eat him alive if he starts and once-beaten, defensive coaches will zero in on that weakness.

Why the Steelers want Feiler, a solid right tackle in his prime to move to guard when the Steelers signed Wisniewski and drafted a guard in round four is something that make little sense.

They must think Feiler can help the interior rushing game, and either Chucks or Banner can be nearly as good at RT. Too bad they can't simulate that in pre-season games to see how it work out.

Ya want a solution? Okay. On obvious running downs, let Banner play Right tackle and move Feiler to Guard and rotate Wisniewski out. On obvious passing down, let the best past protecting tackle play ( Feiler ). Best of both worlds. Feiler starts at RT. We aren't the sharpest team when it comes to situational football, and that's the way the game is going. Keep an eye on Watt, I want to see he if can root out / blow people up at FB.

As for Fieler, I don't think he likes this move. He's a solid right tackle in his prime about to enter free agency, and he will be paid more at Right Tackle not Guard. The Steelers who are up against the cap in 2021 with a too many unrestricted free agents can afford him. So either Banner or Chucks needs to pan out, or were are effed.

maybe they want to give the opportunity to Chuck to see if he is part of the future of the Oline, as an athletic, tall lineman he could be Villanueva's succesor but he does need playing time, only way to achieve experience and not be a complete risk as a blindside protector when his time comes.

Saying this over and over again does not make it true.
Any offensive line woes are easily chalked up to aging Pouncy, new starting right tackle in feiler who was supposed to be a guard, Ramone fosters aging and retirement, no passing game to speak of in 2019 sans ben.

Banners weight and weight loss has already been well documented. "needs to watch his weight as he would be the slowest footed among the starting NFL Tackles" wow. You actually choose those words don't you. I mean really carefully. You didn't really say anything here. Banner has lost weight and seems to be on a better track than he was his first few years. Which I think will attribute to him winning the starting role. But who knows.

Well, the rookie Dotson isn't going to start this year, Obviously. They have an experienced lineman in wisnewski that can play guard or center if something should happen to Pouncy. I believe they brought him in to be the interior swing back up.

This to me is insane.

It is insane because he is a maroon. More often than not you can believe the opposite of his opinion. Not only would opposing teams see how you are using your rotating lineman making it obvious what you are doing on the field, (Less predictability isn't good for any offense.) you are also not getting any type of rhythm going so that the unit can be cohesive. You want that Oline being a well oiled machine, not a stumbling bumbling oops movement of futility. Right now the Steelers are throwing darts at RT and G trying to figure out their best combination. The sooner it is figured out the better. But knowing this team that won't be by week 1. When they do figure it out you want those starters to get many reps together.

Wasn't Feiler the leading candidate to play LG?

If Feiler is playing LG, I go with Chuks

Fielder is expected to start at LG.

fwiw, dk said in an article today he thinks banner will start rt. certainly the biggest question for camp it seems.
