Who is eating crow on Dupree?

you obviously havent been paying attention. he was asked to do more than "get qb" "get ball". he'd stated numerous times over the past two years he was asked to drop back in coverage more and more.

yeah I had no idea he had any coverage duties... please.

If him and his agent are willing to negotiate based upon his career up until this point I would be interested in giving him a reasonable long term deal. If it is only about this year's production........... JETS he is all yours.

that's quite literally what you said.

IMO - if Durpee leaves, it's buyer beware. It took him this long to learn our system, after being moved around some. A new team would likely present new difficulties for him and it'll negatively impact his play. His best bet is to stay here, where he has roots, and has learned the system and not go back to Square 1.

If I'm Colbert, I offer him a bump in salary, but as said above, I don't break the bank for him.

If you believe that he has played one good year out of five, then what kind of contract do you offer him? Do you even offer him a contract? He has been excellent this year. Last year he was ok, and his first three years were really meh. I would have a hard time handing him a lucrative long term contract. I wouldn't low ball him, but I wouldn't break the bank. Yet.

Don't break the bank but it does have the look of progression if you factor in last year being "ok".I would be surprised if the Steelers didn't lock him up.

I think Watt's numbers are still better. One wonders if offensive lines don't tend to focus on T.J.

If so, it might mean that Bud Dupree has fewer doubles and less talented linemen contending with him. That MAY lead to him having a better statistical output.

I say we sit Watt for a few weeks and see if Dupree maintains his numbers? Everyone cool with that?

no crow to eat.
he sucked for 4 years. he and the organization deserved the crap they got.

What I take from his progression is that he was what he was projected to be when drafted. Helluva athlete who needed time to learn (and under a suspect teacher). When they finally put him in a natural spot for him and let him do what he does best, he began to ball. Moreover, he is enjoying it. He isn't going through the motions out there...he is emotional and playing with passion. I don't see a guy who was lazy and likely to fo fat cat on the team. I think he is legit and I think if he hits FA he is going to get a nice deal from someone.

He may well end up being the poster model for player development. Fans want high draft picks to be HoF material day one. Generally doesn't happen. Sure, every year a couple of guys come out of the cannon hot, but most guys take some time. His was an extreme case of that slow development which makes him a great case study.

Bottom line. Hoot sees a guy who the light has gone on for. Hoot does not see a guy who will become complacent when that contract comes. and it is coming from someone.

Good stuff. I've read time and again that Dupree has always been a hard worker and has battled through injuries, so I don't see him getting complacent either. And TJ Watt is a huge fan and if you have that guy in your corner, I'm not too sure I'm worried about character or effort concerns.

The naysayers attribute it to contract year extra effort. He is definitely playing much better.

Its silly to think a person who aspires to be a good player would “hold back” until the contract year OR “suddenly” become motivated to finally try hard so it could earn some money. It could be that time, training, learning the defenses and coaching and Watt on the other side all account for it coming together now. No reason to think that is lack of effort from DuPree.

Good stuff here. ^^^^^^^^*
How long before the light came on for James Harrison?? Not comparing them, just know that James was much older and was cut a couple of times early in his career.

So you're saying: Hoot gives a Hoot!?

Looks like a comparison to me. Isn't saying that both were older when the light came on a comparison? Or do you mean that you don't want to compare production just compare the one thing that makes your point?

Fact is that Dupree was a 1st round pick while Harrison was an UDFA. They are totally different because Harrison was a project that had to go through a lot for him to figure it out. He was cheap as well.

If the Steelers want to sign Dupree to a huge contract then go right ahead. They are banking on the fact that he won't revert back to what he was for 4 years prior to this year. Of course there are no examples of players getting huge contracts for 1 year production and then sucking so they are safe there...

No doubt Bud is gonna present the Steelers with a dilemma in the offseason. He's certainly worth the money he's getting with the Franchise Tag, Edge Rushers are hard to find and he and TJ make a fearsome pair of bookends for us. I hope we can keep him but I doubt we'll be able to afford him. You can't fault a player for chasing the money given all the uncertainties in the NFL.

I have been eating crow for 3 of his 5 years. Each year I have been saying wait till next year.....he’s got it in him......I thought last year he started to turn around, this year he’s figured it out. Weather it’s coaching, simple playing experience, having TJ take more pressure, contract year ,who knows. He seems to be a great team guy, works hard training, doesn’t shoot his mouth off every chance he gets. Hoping he will be the answer for another 4 years. He’s got the size, speed, and strength many teams will covet, and this year he will have the stats.

I've been pimping him since early in the season, before it became chic to defend him. So I'm in the clear. ;)

His first good year is year 5, and in a contract year, I hope they don't tag him or resign him.

Part of James Harrison's delay was he had PRO BOWLERs in front of him.

Salute the nation

Dupree didn't begin to flash anything until last year and even then, he was making pedestrian plays that I expected to see early on. In reality, he was probably your classic raw tweener pick we used to be able to find in the third round and develop for three years before putting into the starting lineup. The premium on the position and his athletic traits put him in the first.

I didn't think the Steelers spent wisely on the OLB position this offseason between Dupree and Chickillo. Glad Dupree is proving me wrong.

I'll have a serving. I just didn't think he would ever get it...but he damn sure has it now.

It'll really suck to see him take it somewhere else though.

He was a first round pick that played like a free agent for 4 years and is now playing at a second round pick level. Why should anyone eat crow? He's playing for his next contract and we don't need another Lamar Woodley. I'd offer him a modest raise or he can walk.

Sorry man, he's not playing at a second round pick level. He's playing at a first round pick level, that should be clear to everyone. Give credit where credit is due.

C'mon AF, don't act like Buddy didn't get better after Peezy left. Joey didn't develop him. Period...

So is it safe to say that you didnt want them to bring Harrison back? If not, why the difference?
