Where's all my Tomin haters who were talking all that "5 years w/o playoff win" ****

My definition of luck is something out of your control. Like the Bengals giving us 30 yards in back to back plays when we had little time and Ben couldn't throw it far.

Coach said:
Luck is when something very unlikely happens, in our case, it was in three's.

so which of these is your definition? Earlier it was something very unlikely happened, now you are saying it is something out of your control.....

Should we consider how many times the team has been unlucky and lost games, or some other team lost/won a game, hurting the Steelers or are the Steelers the only team that has luck?

You could say both. How do you define luck? Something unlikely and out of your cotnrol fits for me. But if we are talking about a game handed to us, last weekend is tops. So how about we are lucky the Bengals are so stupid as back to back penalties of 15 yards with little time and an injured QB helped us win. Both are unlikley and out of our control.

A bad example of luck is when Bettis said HEADS, and the dufus Phil Luckett said he heard tails. Detriot gets the ball in overtime ( When it was suddden death ) and wins. Again, out of our control and unlikley.

I think the debate over whether it was luck or whether Bengals lost the game v. us winning the game (in the media and, to a degree, on here) seems to miss the mark. Steelers were up 15 to zero when Ben gets hurt. While not a huge lead, we had the game under control. We do not know what would have happened if Ben does not get hurt, but his injury certainly helped the Bengals in their near comeback. For example, the Bengals defense played far more aggressive because the threat of Ben was gone. To me, that is too important of a point to ignore when suggesting that the Steelers were lucky or the Bengals “lost the game.” Put another way, the injury to Ben put the Bengals in the position to win the game. As a disclaimer to my comment, I generally find the debate of whether one team won v. the other team lost to be a little strange and usually just a way of fans of a losing team to make themselves feel better (or, at times, certain fans of the winning team to be able to continue their narrative that the team, coach or QB still sucks).

Related to some of the other points, my thoughts are:

1. I agree to an extent that we were “lucky” that Porter did not draw a flag. Though, I have rarely seen a coach get a flag for being on the field. Such a penalty is usually reserved for a situation where the coach is interrupting the start of the play or yelling in a refs face on the field. I do not argue that it could have been penalized, but it was unlikely. Moreover, as is always the case with any game and penalties, we could go back through the game and pick out dozens of times either the Steelers or the Bengals should have been penalized and argue that the lack of penalty affected the game, but that is just part of the NFL.

2. We certainly got a gift from Jones with his stupid penalty because we ended up with a short field goal. Though, even without the penalty, it would have been a 49 yard field goal. While less likely, not a zero percent chance as our kicker has been pretty good and no one can say for sure he would have missed it. Also, we may have run at least one more pass play to the side and tried to pick up a couple of extra yards.

3. It was not luck that Burfict got penalized for the hit. Unlike the non-call of Porter, a penalty on a hit like that is called almost every time (even under less extraordinary situations). Moreover, it seems to me that Burfict was getting desperate because we were moving the ball relatively well on that drive and his desperation (and the fact that he is an ***) led to him going for the illegal hit. Also, to the points earlier, I am sure we can pick numerous times where Burfict got away with penalties in the game; it was bound to catch up to him.

4. [EDIT SINCE ORIGINAL POST] Shazier forcibly ripping the ball from Hill is not luck; it was effort. It is not like the fumble was the result of a bad snap.

I could say you change your definition to suit your argument.....

You could say it was lucky Dalton wasn't the QB, but then again he hurt himself making a tackle.

Just stop already smh

makes it easier to not give Tomlin any credit, I think. Or as absolutely as little as possible. There HAS to be another reason the Steelers won.. TOMLIN SUCKS RAAARGH!!

You see a ton of games won by a PI call late, allowing a quick TD or FG. Getting one penalty to put you in a winning position isn't rare at all. As we have already stated ad nauseum, the fumble wasn't a "gift" either. Getting the second to make it a much easier FG is unlikely, but the Steelers had time to run one play, probably, if they needed a few yards.

Can't say that's the same thing,, a PI comes from a defender trying to defend a pass but ******* up and breaking the rules in the process... B2B dead-ball PFs from two different guys having meltdowns between plays and starting fights has nothing to do with gameplay. It was surely nothing we caused or could take credit for.

What happened last weekend was remarkable, miraculous, and absolutely never happens...

Maaaannn.....what will some of you do if we win the Broncos game............?

"back to back 8 and..........."

"missed the playoffs............"

"hasn't won a playoff.........."

"okay...well......okay.......well, he hasn't taken us to an AFCCG in _____ years !!" <----cue that ****** up cuz its next
