Where there is smoke, the Steelers should make fire???

Who said anything about leap of faith, I'm talking about finding WRs in the draft who are productive with Ben. Bryant definitely was before he decided Mary Jane was more important, and Sweed could've been but he got into his own head and lost all confidence. Every WR mentioned also was drafted between 2-6, and yet only 3 weren't very productive, unless you count Sanders who was oft injured with us. Regardless, WR is one position they hit on more than they miss, no "leap of faith" involved

My point regarding leap of faith is that Tomlin didn’t find some diamond in the rough with JuJu... he didn’t take a leap of faith in drafting JuJu, hoping he was going to get something more than anyone expected. He was considered a high prospect and as I recall, many Rat fans needed to be talked of a ledge when Steelers drafted JuJu.

So I just don’t see this stellar, WR guru everyone is so confident Tomlin is, with no worry he’ll just draft the next bABy. He drafted Sweed (bust), Wheaton (bust), Coates (semi-bust), Bryant (best season 50rec, 725yrds, 3 TD’s, over 4 seasons, with one lost year to suspension. About as pedestrian and less than they come), Wallac (solid, no super star), Sanders (see Wallace), Santonio (immense talent mostly wasted). Of course Brown n JuJu. Jury still out on Washington. So I’m just not as confident in the track record as most.

Imagine Pluto being misquoted in "Animal House" ......................................"Did we give up when the Germans attacked pearl harbor".............................. Good greif and don't ever MAKE THAT ******* MISTAKE AGAIN>>>>>........... (sarcasm)

Wheaton wasn't a bust. Talent was there. Just couldn't stay healthy.

Holmes was drafted by Cowher.

Point taken on Holmes, though that removes one of the better ones I had credited Tomlin with. That leaves an even less impressive list of Tomlin picks.

IMHO, Wheaton never played enough to really know if the talent was there at the pro level. He definitely made some plays here or there, but I also recall some bad drops, as well as bone headed play at times.

I totally realize, there is very little chance Diggs to Pittsburgh would ever happen... which I kind of acknowledged in my initial post as likely no chance the Vikings would move him. But if there was even a chance, I personally would have loved to see him in black n gold. I think his skill set is very similar to bABy's and, similarly to the arguments being made, Ben is partially responsible for Brown's success, which will show now that he's playing with a lesser QB... Diggs has had Keenum and Cousins throwing to him the better part of his young career. If he were to somehow end up in Pittsburgh, I think he could flourish and become a top talent with BB at QB.

And, I for one don't think Colbert/Tomlin are nearly as successful as they've been given credit for, as it pertains to drafting WR....

They've drafted 14 WR in their time together (Dallas Baker '07, Limas Sweed '08, Wallace '09, Sanders/Brown '10, Toney Clemons '12, Wheaton/Justin Brown '13, Dri Archer/Martavis Bryant '14, Coates '15, Demarcus Ayers '16, JuJu '17 and Washington '18). There are far more misses than hits and although JuJu has been tremendous thus far, the real test is still to come, as the de facto #1. Washington still has a lot to prove. Excluding JuJu/Washington, 3 are still technically in the league (Brown, Sanders, Wallace) and none on the Steelers. So, there is no sure thing Colbert/Tomlin are going to draft a better WR than Diggs is or could be if an unlikely trade were to happen.

I get that it's a pipe dream... thought it was an interesting idea to speculate about.
