When will Bell regain form?

Judging on last week, Bryant is back to form. He can take it to the house or draw flags for lots of yardage. We are just a different team with him the game in terms of points scored.

The Bears are a very bad team. 0-2 only I part of the story. Their defense had just 4 total sacks, and 0 interceptions. Defensively they are ranked 24th in total yardage surrendered.

If Bell is sluggish vs the Bears, fans should start to wonder about what is going on. I have no problem at all giving Conner the ball 3-5 times a game.

in other words, Ben will get sacked 5+ times and have 3 INTs.

A few points to ponder.

1 ) It's his speed, acceleration, and quickness that looks slower to me. You can still be quick with acceleration without having a 4.5 forty time. On an ouside run yesterday, Bell wasn't close to beating DL or LB players to the edge. We have all seen him do that before. Other posters see a speed and quickness decline so far in Bell's game. Take off your black and gold glasses. On the Vikings D, Conner who ran it once got 9 yards. Bell who ran it 27 times had a long of 11.

2 ) Bell knew what he was playing for " the business side " and chose to hold out for no financial gain. His timing is off because of this, and I think he's not in
football shape. During the process, he mocked Colbert a bit and acted like a @ss.

3 ) His Yards per Rush and Yards per catch for the year is 3.2 and 2.7. Terrible numbers and with our OL and skill players should be a bit better. Conner ran it once for 9 yards. Bell ran it 27 times, with a long of 11. Hmmm....

4 ) If he can't regain form vs the Bears, it's not raining, it's pouring. Bring your umbrella because the fans will become more vocal. One game or two, okay maybe a fluke. Three? Not likely unless there is some sort of injury we do not know about.

5 ) What do you really know about South Beach? I have been there 50 times, mostly before I was married. Its a party place and this include the athletes visiting for an away game. My PT is a brick house, and she parties there all the type.

If you want to train without distractions, do it somewhere in Ohio or middle PA. South Beach has more distractions than just about anywhere else I can think of in the USA. Judging by Bell's shall we say appetite for women, and life style I do not think he was down there solely for the training... Face facts. he went there for business and pleasure....and look at the results we are seeing on the field.

You can ponder all you want, it doesn't mean your observations are accurate. You have an opinion, like everyone else. But you are not as clever as you think.

Take off my homer glasses? Why don't you put aside your agenda and ego and look at the situation in full.

1. First you said speed, now you say acceleration and quickness. "To you looks slower". Unless you validate you have speed geared vision, your observation is subjective. He had some runs that were qualitative and some that weren't. Some attributed to the OL, which those who know what they are talking about have contraindicated as the culprit to the running game, in addition to the defenses they've played against. To sit there and compare Connor's one carry to Bells 27 and conceptualize your logic about the productivity is asinine. It doesn't even amount to discussing it because it's ludicrous.

2. As already commented, it wasn't a hold out. Learn to tell the difference between the business side and the football side. He wasn't required to show up for camp or preseason. Guess what, he signed his tender the first day after preseason ended......for whatever reason business or otherwise.

3. If I am guaranteed the average, I'll take those numbers for a RB every time. See question 1 for response to your repeated question.

4. If, if, if, if........what if, Ben throws 10 picks, Bell gets <50 yards...it's over? For Bell? The team? It may be another 2016 Philly game, then again it may be 2016 KC game. Everyone can play your game.

And please....give us a break fans will be bringing umbrellas....how about its more likely you will blame Tomlin, Colbert, both coordinators, the FO secretary for the reason they lost. Players play, coaches coach. "Coach" thinks he's a better football man than all of them.

5. Could care less about South Beach. I've never lived there, or Miami in general, but it is what was built to be. Everything around SB is not preferable. I even dislike the airport. It's distractions is nowhere near as formidable as in LA or even NY. I would put Atlanta there too.

I lived in Atlanta for long time and, there were all kinds of activities to get yourself into....and not just parting. Many.........MANY Professional athletes were around. Heck most I ran into STILL live there. From ATL and other teams and different sports. So SB is a place, but glad you think you are the social conscious of all athletes and know where the best place to have fun is.

Also glad your PT is buff, but it has no relevance here. There are so many different places to train other than OH or PA. Most professionals go to CA, FL, AZ because of the weather element and the professional trainers based there.

Finally, where did I say Bell was in Miami solely for training? I advised he has music interest, which SB is a central hub for. So of course he isn't there just for training...

Again, we are 2-0, maybe 3-0 next week. I tend to look at the positive in the current status, but you will be a naysayer until your agenda is fulfilled.

I think he needs about $5 mil more in his bank account and he will run like a Freightliner on a empty road on a cool night! Busting sweet rhymes along the way! (Sarcasm ALERT)

Ike,

Bell looks slower, several other posters see it. Can you?

When I watch other teams backs they look much faster. Either Bell is not in football shape ( for being selfish and stupid knowing in advance what his contract would be but holding all of camp ) or he has eroded a bit physically due to the pounding and shorter shelf life of the position he plays.

By the way, Bell was in South Beach Miami when the Steelers were in camp. That place is known for partying, attractive women and late nights.

So which is it? He's not in football shape or he's in a slow decline?

Actually, it could be a combination of the both. I'm not sure yet. What I am sure of is he has back-back to back below average performances by his own standards, and that needs to change soon.

I am glad the Steelers did not offer Bell a ridiculous long-term deal. A top talent when in shape and healthy he is, but he's also got a lot of off the field baggage and past injury issues.

For 2017 he is averaging 3.2 yards per carrying and just 2.7 yards per catch.

When has Bell ever broken a big play and outracd anyone for a TD? I can't remember. He may get his yards, but look at how many time he touches the ball...he better get some damn yards. I stand firm that he's not the best RB in the NFL and there are a few who are more explosive. I just don't think he's worth 15 million a year. Especially now that he's getting used less in the passing game.

I hope he goes for 150 a game...I just don't think he will.

2014 he had a 81 yarder and last year he averaged combined yardage passing and receiving over 150 yards a game.

You hope he goes over 150? it isn't a what if but a when......

Its ok to be pissed about the money issue..but please stop with nonsense already. On the field he has nothing to prove as a football player. He is the best

So nice he posted it twice

Up that to 6-10 and we will see him get a little groove on. James Conner can carry the Rock and it would save Bell a little wear and tear.

I do think the Steelers want to save some wear and tear on Bell, but at the same time I want to get his legs under him.

The fact is the team NEEDS Bell down the stretch. Without a bonafide running / receiving threat out of the backfield, a solid coached team like the P*ts or the Chiefs or even the Ravens will figure out how to limit Bryant and Brown. Then it comes down to Boswell. That worked fine last year against the Chiefs, but the Steelers couldn't make enough plays against the cheaters to stay in the game in the AFCC. I really don't want things to come down to depending like **** on JuJu to play the game of his life for the Steelers to have a chance because one of the B's is hurt or playing at 80%.

I also think you want to groom Conners a bit to give him some experience so if he IS needed the game isn't too big for him.

That's just my opinion, of course. Bell is one of the most valuable assets in the team's arsenal. I wouldn't use a sniper rifle as a hammer myself.

Bell made a few keys runs for the first down and good yardage on first down. I guess waiting for that 20-30 yard run and catches out of the backfield. All and all the offense just has had a funny look to it two games. Short passes game one and every other pass was a-bomb in the second game. I would like to see more flow and consistent drives. May Bell gets more on first down, this will come around.

Assuming we don't go run, run, pass like we did last week and we actually use Bell for screens and dump offs out of the backfield (instead of lining him up as a WR), I can see him getting 200 all-purpose yards this week.

And don't forget to throw in a razzle dazzle, double fake reverse, statue of liberty, draw, flea-flicker play on 3rd and 1 (glad those days are over)

What is this? Bell has a lot to prove on the field as a franchise paid the player and two games in he has not done it. He should be able to break out vs a bad Bears team. If he doesn't play well, that is 3 sub-par performances in a row.

The agenda must be pushed

There sure is a lot of comments for Bell, must be we all see something is missing so far . The comment what does he have to prove, what just show up and not produce, he cried he deserved more money, then prove it.

Whats been missing the most is running room.

That's been changed to a WR screen, where the hell have you been?????

Bell's drop was a main reason why he lost. We would have gone in for 7 and ended up with 3.

The Bears had better RB's yesterday on a day when their QB sucked and could only pass 101 yards, 50+ of which went to their RB's. and our brain dead coaches could not figure out how to stop it.

Have to disagree the trend is the main reason they lost yesterday. Their repeat and rinse for half a decade support this belief.

Can't argue with this. The OL has been hot garbage all year, whether run blocking or pass protecting. Giving up a sack when the Bears only rushed 3 guys was my favorite play yesterday.

When a team under-performs, we know who ultimately should be blamed.

Bell's performance was not effected by his camp hold out.

I said a main reason, but there were others. IF Bell catches it, or Bryant catches his ( two players with pot issues ) we probably escape with a win.
