Watt’s Up?

Lol....I don't think they are cheap. Their pockets are just not as deep as some other owners are.
We will have to agree to disagree on that having any bearing on this matter. I think it is purely making it work within the cap and the long term strategies. I also think t will get done.

As of 2015, Forbes estimated the Rooney family at 1.2 Billion - 193rd highest in the country.

I don't think they're really hurting that badly that they couldn't afford 80 million or so in escrow.
Forbes article

The Steelers have always done right by their top players. They have never shied away from making their players the highest-paid at their position. Their problem has been with the signing bonus. However, they have almost always honored their contracts so that has been a moot point. However, nowadays, it is a different story. Top players want way more than 50% of their contract guaranteed. The question here will be, will the Steelers step up and start following suit. If they don't, they WILL lose some of their top players and potentially Watt. $50 million guaranteed would be a low ball offer to Watt knowing what he can get in free agency. They may offer him $25 million per season on average but I can't see them giving him $100 million guaranteed. This contract will be interesting. If they don't come to terms, he could sit out the season or he could play. If he plays without a new contract, they will have to tag him next year in hopes of keeping him and him playing for one more year. I sure hope they do the right thing and pay the man.

stop being cheap pay the money if the family is worth 1.2 billion u have no reason if u don’t want to seriously add another parter with deep pockets who would not mind contributing the escrow money for big names. What happened to that big pit business man that wanted to buy minority ownership it’s not the 90 you are selling all games every game as about 98-99 percent capacity seats sold but 68780 seats full plus all the merchandise luxury boxes is enough to pay the big bonus. And naming rights ask more than 3 mill a year like from upmc and giant tiger 5 mill a year let both bud for a 10-20 year rights deal and use that money strictly for sb

Like has been said before, the Steelers are not cheap! They pay their players. Even in my discussion with Stillwright he knows they are not cheap. It is about the cap and structure not how much.

The Steelers currently have more cap space next year than any other team. Let that sink in. $77M minimum before the salary cap increase is finalized. This is Cleveland Browns/ Jacksonville Jags space. Plenty of room to lock down the superstars you have committed to. JuJu too? Yup. Ben if he wants to come back next year? No problem. Steelers are young and for once, not cap strapped. Never seen cap space like this in my life!!!

The steelers are last in cash vs cap spending this year and obviously that will change when Watt is done. They need to step up and pay Watt, then pay Fitzpatrick the next year, then probably pay Claypool/Bush the following. The solution is pretty simple. Either your start getting the necessary lines of credit together. Or you sell a bigger chunk of the team to raise the cash.

then why are they taking so long its like everyone in the fo didn't know what the rate for a top 3 edge rusher and a top priority the cash and cap room for the long is all their so why the delay, the more he doesn't practice that's more rust and time to get into his form which in contact drills in practice and even a few meaningless series in 2-3 preseason games pending on if he is signed by tomm midnight

Have you not read my posts explaining it?

The Steelers have never been cheap. They have always paid their top players like top players in the league. They even offered Bell more than he ended up getting with the Jets. So, quit your bitching, whining, and lying about the organization. The Steelers are the best organization in the NFL.

THIS,

you can only pay till you hit the cap. Unfortunately the STEELERS are close to cap and are trying to find a way to get TJ and still be cap compliant. Can you imagine where we would be had BEN not given a huge discount?

They probably would have cut Ben. Would that have opened up even more money?

I don't know about additional cap space due to the gauranteed money that was owed from the past. BUT you also would end up with Rudolf or Haskins QBing the team and that would be for shaky outcome. BEN, obviously gives us the best chance compared to anyone on the team. The STEELERS see that and signed his deal knowing they saved cap space to do it.

I hear what you are saying but feel the STEELERS along with BEN's cooperation had come to the best possible solution. NOW we need to somehow get TJ signed within remaining cap capacity.

From what I remember him retiring was a big hit on par with staying at a reduced salary. I don't remember the numbers but it wasn't pretty. I believe it was a difference in the end of only a couple million with the rest being pushed out another year or two with the voidable years. He was set to count 22.5 million against the cap if cut BEFORE he got his roster bonus.

I think it was closer to 5 million but only going out of memory.

He was to account 41 million against the cap but restructure put him near 21 million I think, just going out of memory
