Vince Williams Restructures

The sheer stupidity of signing this bum to a 3 year 18 million dollar was asinine. We have a huge weakness at ILB so we sign our slowest , worst pass defending ILB to a 6 million a year contract. Who were we negotiating against. No one signs this mediocre player to 6 million a year. Couple that with throwing 4 million plus at the fat , slow Foster and signing DuPree to a 9 million contract and you see why we are not contenders anymore.

New idiot or returning idiot?

So your guard is slow? I didn't know he needed to be so fast. He's coming off a very solid season. Probably his best in a Steelers uniform.

So they over paid maybe 2-3 million for VW? Can you go back through and let me know which FA ILBs there were they should've signed? Or how they could've signed anyone when they had 15 million tied up waiting for Bell to sign.

Dupree's contract option was picked up last season on the hopes he'd make the next step. The don't believe in pulling a contract when they already said they'd do it. None, and I mean none of these moves are causing the Steelers to not be contenders.

Foster was bad this year and Steelers Depot did some nice film on his missed assignments and getting blown off the line repeatedly.

Signing a bad player to above market value in Williams case was again dumb and here we are trying to upgrade him and Bostic. Please tell me when it is good business to overpay a poor player who can't cover and is singled out by the opposition. Again no one wanted Williams, he was not on the open market and would not get a big contract so why the rush and sign the bum ? The Steelers missed the playoffs this year for good reason, despite Ben, AB, JuJu , Watt and others there are some poor players on the Steelers and to magnify the problem we overpay for their limited service.

You can not upgrade everywhere. The Steelers were the weakest in coverage in multiple areas. So they resigned their own, and then tried to upgrade those coverage weaknesses. Also you have to be careful depleting talent in other areas in the process. As you can create a hole trying to fill another.

You should be more upset with last offseasons approach as they failed to upgrade and missed out on some LBers in the draft.

But so far it looks like they are putting together a better plan so far, let us see what the draft brings too.

Good points and overall I agree. But we had a better younger player in Finney ready and he is also much younger. Paying Williams 6 million a year for the next 3 year's and Dupree 9 million a year is just sad

Our perception is Finney is ready, and if so if as if the FO sees it that way you let Foster walk and then you are looking pretty weak at depth.

And this team has been caught short with not having the depth needed before in critical moments.

If you free agent a G as a backup, really how much would that cost, or the time to develop another G ?

So many factors into play. Williams and Dupree fall into the same line of thinking. You think they aren't that great their depth is even worse. Well until MB was just signed. But we aren't even sure where he will play.

I am not comfy letting Dirty Red or Chickisllow start.

Find replacements, and not cut off your toe at depth in the process.

I think with Dupree the could extend and bring that price down, but there is a rumor he wasn't liking that deal.

Someone said the word is that Durpee refused to renegotiate that. Seems unrealistic, to me, but it might be true. He may realize he ain't getting a payday anywhere else. If true, I would have told him to walk before the new year and saved the $9m.

If he blows up, he pockets our $9m and gets a huge payday elsewhere.

I just did a search of Ramon Foster on Steelers Depot and found no such articles or film studies saying any of this. Please provide a link.

If he blows up you can keep him. Perhaps a big if of what he has put on film. Regardless that would be a good problem to have.

Timmons is laughing at you...same situation AND FA isn't over now kid...we DO NOT know what could have transpired w/ Williams up to Day 1 of the season.

Nice speculation though...

I got your kid right here boy. Williams is a weakness even the Steelers acknowledge so by signing a mediocre slow player to a huge deal was bad business. Using Timmons who even at his advanced age was vastly superior to Williams further makes my point. Signing mediocre players to long term over priced deals always bites you in the ***. Williams is a mediocre thumper with limited range who is exposed every time he has to cover anyone. A true liability but hey we got him for the bargain price of 6 million a year. Yippee !!!!!

There is no link because it just isn't there. And PFF (which you can argue some things from them can be taken with a grain of salt) rated him the #16 G in the league for 2018. Not bad for a guy missing his assignments and getting blown off the line repeatedly.

How many sacks did he allow in 2018? How many penalties?

Thing is I remember when they signed Williams the talk wasn't that it was some huge contract. Majority of their in house deals usually are market value for what they value the player,

You might not favor Williams resigning, ok I can buy that. But I am thinking you are exaggerating the cost of these signing(s).

I think for what we have witnesses regardless they are showing better attention to detail on this free agent haul.

Something to be thankful for and with the toxic twins gone we can start focusing on that and the draft.

You do realize my "kid" reference is because you're an FNG...

Unless you're a retread - you'll realize which bears not to poke 'round here. I'm one of them...
