Steelers Depot says we restructured Williams for cap space. guess he isn't going anywhere for awhile.

Interesting. Not sure why they did it though unless they are still planning on signing more FA's or not restructuring Ben.

I didn't get the large contract when first signed and now I realize this lowers the cap but ****, for today's game and what he brings.......he is OVERPAID substantially. Add that in with what Tomlin's "D" wants him to do is utterly insane thus magnifying the crappy roster / contract positioning.

Back in the day, Dan would never pull that 'Wimpy's hamburger deal' to create space but nowadays it is common place. We will be paying thru the nose for AB all year cause of that stuff.

I'm glad we will have the cap space next season that will be free after the dead money is done. $20+ million for free agents and draft picks for two years in a row? I'll take it.

I like Vince. He seems to be a good guy. And a company man. He's all about being a Steeler. I can't imagine after a restructure, he'd go AB and leave the team on the hook for dead money. But despite all of that, I gotta say, I'm not ok with him being our best ILB on the roster. I mean, keep him around, he's good for the role he has shown in the past that he fills, but we certainly still need to draft a new top guy.

Overthecap has us at 4.1 left after the recent free agents signings Now adding 2.8 gets us real close to 7. With a Big Ben restructure that should give us enough to get Houston he’s looking for 10-12 mil a year not 15 he was gonna get

He's a better player than people here give him credit for, too. He is reliant on the guy next to him. When he had Shazier next to him, he was doing quite well. When Shazier went away, Vince's results got worse. Not a coincidence.

Houston should be making his decision soon. Down to three teams. Hopefully, they are clearing space for him.

Tomlin and I think Williams is the perfect guy to cover Keenan Allen.

The other 2? I believe one is the Ravens, Colts maybe?

maybe villinueva can take another pay cut if so that should still leave us in the hunt for Justin hiouston if not the market for clayy Matthews is dry

pretty sure there's no way we go get Houston. They're $9M in on Overdurpee. Not going to eat that on top of AB's money

Depends upon how much Houston wants. We can't afford to outbid the Raiders, I don't think. We may be able to compete with the Ravens, depending upon some restructuring.

Due to Houston's age, it might be the intention to be able to rotate Durpee and Houston. Tombert can promise Houston he will get more playing time later in the year.....

There is a reason why Clay's market is dry................... PASS on him as he is out of gas and has been for a couple years now.

They could easily extend Dupree and cut his 9 mil in half

That is true. Just have to make sure his guaranteed money is $9m+ or he'd have zero reason to sign it. Assuming he is guessing that someone would sign him for $5m+ next year, $13m signing bonus, plus $2m for 3 years? $6m cap hits for the next three years? and he still has time for another contract from elsewhere?

some vet rusher are needed extend Dupree to lower his cap number and a vet like Houston or clay gives you more depth as by just adding chick and say a 2 rookies ala bush and say hollins adds speed, and ola gets a shot at PT but that's to much youth 1 vet and 1 rook rusher to fix the coverage. Perhaps just cut bostic if we are going to draft bush or white as either starts day 1 .

The sheer stupidity of signing this bum to a 3 year 18 million dollar was asinine. We have a huge weakness at ILB so we sign our slowest , worst pass defending ILB to a 6 million a year contract. Who were we negotiating against. No one signs this mediocre player to 6 million a year. Couple that with throwing 4 million plus at the fat , slow Foster and signing DuPree to a 9 million contract and you see why we are not contenders anymore.

So your guard is slow? I didn't know he needed to be so fast. He's coming off a very solid season. Probably his best in a Steelers uniform.

So they over paid maybe 2-3 million for VW? Can you go back through and let me know which FA ILBs there were they should've signed? Or how they could've signed anyone when they had 15 million tied up waiting for Bell to sign.

Dupree's contract option was picked up last season on the hopes he'd make the next step. The don't believe in pulling a contract when they already said they'd do it. None, and I mean none of these moves are causing the Steelers to not be contenders.

I like when Justin gets feisty.
