Udfa thread

We signed a corner from Toledo today named Chetham Norrils

The guys got a story. Definitely worth a read. In short, prior to the 2014 season, he struggled recovering from summer workouts. Tests were ran and found nothing. When things didn't get any better, he went to the hospital and they found he had pneumonia and a viral infection which was eating through his body. It was an anomaly. Doctors didn't know what caused it or where it came from. He was hospitalized and reportedly dropped upwards of 40lbs. He could've lost his life, it was that serious. When he was finally released from hospital, he had developed blood clots due to being bed ridden for so long and needed to be on blood thinning meds. Going back to every day life was a struggle for him, let alone playing football ever again. He fought through everything, eventually recovered from it all, and got back on the field healthy for the 2015 season with a new found appreciation for life and the game of football. Was named co-captain and had a nice season. Coach praised the energy he brought to the team. I had no idea about his story when watching his tape, but I liked his tape enough to look into him further as I thought he could be a nice developmental DB in the 7th-UDFA. This guy has experience playing outside corner, slot corner, and safety throughout his college career. Has great ball skills, is extremely competitive, very physical, shows good instincts playing the ball and receivers, and has zero problem tackling or supporting the run. Was a WR and basketball player in high school. Decent size at 5'11 191lbs. His pro day numbers are good and more than NFL worthy:

40-yard: 4.60
20-yard: 2.60
10-yard: 1.60
Bench reps: 20
Vertical jump: 40 1/2
Broad jump: 11'01"
20-yard shuttle: 4.20
3-cone: 6.62

His bench reps, vertical jump, broad jump, short shuttle, and 3-cone are all ELITE numbers and would have put him up there for all DB's at the combine. I'm pulling hard for this guy. Hoping he can at least earn a place on the practice squad.

Good tape against Arkansas and Florida among others.

Not sure why Toussaint has been wrote off by many. He played well in his time.

You know how it is with some folks... a player screws up once and he's no longer a viable piece of the puzzle. Fumble in a playoff game? Get rid of the bum!

The Steelers lack of areas of clear need may have burned them a bit here... I do like the WR we grabbed... the derth of prospect RB's is slightly troubling.... Bell hasnt proved durable... Williams is of the age when RBs can lose it in a matter of weeks... We still have to see if Tousaint recovers from the playoff game... Nix is coming off of an injury, after that its mostly a ton of 1 year scrap heap guys...we even lost Will Johnson to the Giants this offseason...

Thing is with the one less pick, it slightly handcuffed the teams ability for depth. As in they simply couldn't get every position desired. If that 5th wasn't traded away from last year. I think you would have seen a RB or QB drafted.

But with the lack of restructures this offseason, if the want is bring in a experienced RB and a CB it is doable. Come final cutdown I would be surprised if one or two isn't added. If not prior to training camp.

Here's some guys I personally would have gone after.

QB- Travone Boykin
Yes, got in trouble at the worst moment possible but he has talent. Maybe he learned his lesson but if not you don't have much invested in him.

RB- Aaron Green
Lets stay with the TCU theme. Green is undersized and maybe more quick than fast but he has awesome feet and I feel would have worked nicely in the zone blocking scheme.

WR- Keyarris Garrett is a huge guy with some wheels. Was very productive but didn't face a lot of powerhouses.

TE- Ben Braunecker was a productive Ivy League kid that tested much better than most thought. I feel he has enough upside to bring in and see what he can do in camp.

OL- Stephane Nembot I think has a lot of upside. Worth bringing in and letting Munchak see what he can do.

DL- Antwaun Woods is a bigger 0 gap kind of tackle worth taking a look at.

LB- Dominique Alexander is a smaller but quick ILB but had over 100 tackles the last two years.

CB- jonathan Jones is small but quick and reminds me of Blake but in a good way. I think he'd be best in the nickel or dime.

S- Michael Caputo is a scrappy safety who does a great job reading and reacting. He's the kind of player who isn't flashy but sticks in the nfl for a decade.

We still had 7 picks.

Yup. I would second this one. 4.6 range at his pro day at 250lbs. Does not play as fast as he timed but I would have brought him in.
