Although safety Troy Polamalu has been instrumental to the Pittsburgh Steelers' success since entering the league in 2003, the eight-time Pro Bowler's stint in the Steel City may be nearing its conclusion.

Steelers Reportedly Want to Part Ways with Polamalu
Wednesday, March 4
Polamalu was once among the most dominant defensive players in football, but with his skills continuing to decline at a rapid rate, the Steelers appear ready to move on.
According to CBS Pittsburgh, Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette revealed his expectations regarding the 33-year-old defensive back's future on 93.7 The Fan's The Cook and Poni Show.
"That is the elephant in the room," Bouchette said. "I expect him not to be here by some means. The Steelers are hoping he would retire, but I don't know if he is going to."
Regardless of Polamalu's decision, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network is confident the former USC standout has played his last game for the Steelers, according to NFL.com's Marc Sessler:
“
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that the organization believes the celebrated safety has played his last game for the Steelers, per a pair of team sources.
Rapoport was told that the defender is not in Pittsburgh's plans for 2015 and won't be back. The only question is how his exit will play out.
”
Albert Breer of NFL.com reported that if the Steelers decide to part ways with their veteran safety, there's a good chance he'll call it a career:
Releasing a player of Polamalu's caliber would likely be difficult for the Steelers organization. He has won two Super Bowls with the franchise and amassed a resume that is certainly worthy of Hall of Fame consideration.
On the heels of a 2014 season in which he made very few of the impact plays he's known for, though, it is clear Polamalu isn't the player he once was.
Perhaps another team will take a chance on Polamalu because of what he adds from an experience standpoint, but there are no indications the Steelers will do that.
