Trey Johnson, The 5-foot-11 senior had 45 tackles, two interceptions, but most impressively, 15 pass breakups in 2017.

He finished his collegiate career with 123 tackles, four interceptions and 29 passes defended in 46 games played. Oh he ran a 4.33 forty

The film clips were impressive. Johnson gets his hands and breaks up a lot of passes. I'm very intrigued. Those who care to watch his clips are invited to comment.

meh

Are you gonna start a thread for every UDFA? Mike Minter Jr got invited to a min camp tryout his dad was pretty good you should start a thread about that next.

15 PDs but only 2 picks? Based on your previous views of other players, he should suck since he couldn’t catch INTs with those PDs.

The Truth - its not a terrible subject, sharing UDFA news ,, or ideas about how to use people,, etc..

The fact that it comes from the attention *****, taints the whole thread. It does.

Coach, youre such a spamming attention *****, it hurts your credibility. THEN when you get something right (not sure i have great example here) you clamor for the recognition so bad,,
it makes it worse.

I hope steelers find some gems out of the UDFA invited to camp etc. I always go back and look at Donnie Shell, and Hasselrig.

I don't think he makes it. You can tell by his tape that he doesn't know how to play 15 yards off the line of scrimmage and make the tackle right after the receiver gets the first down..

Yeah that's a very important part of the defensive scheme. I always get excited when they go into the cushion formation on 3rd and long. Then some qb we've never heard of has a career day. Awesome stuff! I hope they don't move away from that this year. It's exciting to watch.

Haselrig was actually drafted in the 12th rd in '89 but you're point is well taken

The film seemed a little low end but it may have been my I-pad having issues. One thing I did notice is he "High Points" the ball very well. He also seemed to be in good position but then again it's a high lite film. I didn't see that amazing 4.3 speed on any outright display but he did seem fast enough in pads. Maybe camp fodder but we won't know until TC. I'm always glad the STEELERS are looking for the hidden gem.

Salute the nation

I urge you to keep posting Ike, because once again your ignorance is showing. 15 passes defended in a season is very good for a cornerback.

Trey Johnson had 29 passes defended in 46 games played. This is very impressive.

But you don't understand what is good, so your reply to me makes perfect sense.

What film did you watch on Trey Johnson to formulate such an opinion? Do tell, Mr. Double standard.

If you want an example of poor ball skills Ike, look no further than our 5th round pick in Marcus Allen, who averaged 2.5 passes defended for the four years he played and had but one interception in 49 games played.

Don't even say but coach he was an in the box type fo safety. That sucks for in the box types too, and when you factor in a 4.63 40...

That depends, was he targeted a lot because of some deficiencies in the process racked up some PDs but also gave up a lot of yards and or TDs?

Just speaking in general, I have no idea if that is the case with this player.

In some corners they are so good in coverage they aren't targeted so their stats aren't impressive. As in teams staying clear of them.

Seems like a nice find but I suspect our defensive backfield is pretty full atm with Haden, Burns, Sutton, Hilton, Davis, Edmunds, Burnett, the two Allen’s.. am I missing anyone?

In this case I don't think Ike could have watched extensive game tape. as it doesn't seem to exist. So far coach all I have seen is highlight compilations. And although i know that is your normal, really doesn't give a good play by play look.

Hell we could look through 8,695 of your posts and highlight 3 or 4 which might make you look like you actually on a day to day basis knew what the hell you were talking about. But that wouldn't be a accurate assessment.

Because more often than not you're out in left field. Way way way out there.

Not sure, but his head may be a bit too large to get a helmet on game day, or even for the practice squad.

You can see his clips and watch how he breaks up passed. My guess is he was the best corner on his team, and not targeted that often.

Guys who are targeted often, also have high tackle amounts, yet Johnson does not

Unless he is a ****** tackler or gives up a lot of TDs.

Sorry "clips" don't do it for me. too small of a body of work.

Did you read any report that says weak tackling? There is some tackling in the video too. I

Johnson (5'11/187) really opened some eyes after his strong pro day. He posted a 4.33 40, a 4.20 short shuttle, a 36-inch vertical and a 10-foot-8 broad jump. Per Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst, Johnson looked "smooth and fluid" in position drills.

Oh I didn't read it,so he must be a good tackler! lulz I saw a few tackles he must be a good tackler lulz

Listen numbnuts that is why you want game tapes to get a more accurate description.

I know you have lazyass game tape itis.

But that is a better way to analyze.

Try to keep up.

Yeah my ignorance......you have a corner back (Johnson), and a strong safety (Allen). Allen won’t have as many PD/INT opportunities since he isn’t a boundary DB. Johnson was. Johnson also wasn’t a primary run defender. His run defense responsibilities were minuscule. Allen was a true thumper box safety, but also schematically had coverage responsibilities, but his job in Franklin’s defense was keep the ball carrier in front and tackle him. Apples and oranges genius. And you can’t tell the difference through your agenda lenses.

I also seem to recall in your catalog of prior useless threads that INTs were the measurement of a CB’s talent and PD’s were “failed INTs”. You knocked Ike Taylor for it, but he was one of the team’s best cover corner this era.

You want to argue about a UDFA who has slight chance of sticking (doubtful) on the club, and a 5th rounder who will probably on play on ST and specific defensive packages. How about starting an argument as to when you had a failed lobotomy.

Also, don’t waste my time messaging me that you trashed me epically...and then posting about it. Show everyone your attempt to be greater than the legend in your own mind.

Go back to playing with crayons. Your more productive that way.
