Another point on analytics. Analytics says you should ALWAYS go for it on 4th down. This is why the numbers work out. Because you will be stopped some but if you go every single time, you will make more than you are stopped and using 4 plays to get 10 becomes a huge advantage over a whole game. At least on paper.
But when you use the analytics to only go for a 4th down sometimes, or just 1 time, it completely negates the statistical advantage. Now you are just guessing and using analytics as a justification. It’s easy t9 see why coaches love it. It gets them off the hook. Now it seems no matter how risky the call, the coach just says analytics said it was OK and the media laps it up. Oh well, if a spreadsheet says it’s OK then Who are we to argue that it was a bad decision to go for it on 4th and 4 from your own 20 while up 1 with under 2 minutes.
