Tomlin Extension

I am certain that, if he is fired, MT would immediately be hired by the Patriots. Every morning Bill Belichick will ask coach MT his opinion on matters of the day and proceed to do the exact opposite. BOOM! Pats win six more Super Bowls.

6 former coaches who have all failed as HC on their own or without the common denominator (Ernie). Vrabel never coached for Belichick. He started his coaching stint under Urban Meyer, not Belichick and through Crennel who is probably the most successful of Belichick’s former coaches. Albeit as a coordinator. Saban coaching influence was not from Belichick. He has often commented those 4 years in Cleveland were the “worst of his life”. Hardly an admiration of his stay. His coaching influences was primarily from his father (who never coached professionally or on a collegiate level). Don James and Earle Bruce groomed him for collegiate coaching. I’d say Ferentz was an organization coach than influenced by Belichick, considering he stayed after Belichick was fired.

To compare Belichick’s coaching influence to one of the greatest equine in racing is rather unfair....to Belichick. Since the coach is nowhere close to the level of sport achievement that Big Red was.

Agree to disagree about the “telling” of asst coaches. Other than OBrien and Romeo...I don’t see any other having a modicum of success.

I think the point is that nobody even wants to try a Tomlin raised coach, in spite of his famous regular season success.

I doubt there would be a bidding war for Tomlin as a coach. I think he would get offers to be on staff somewhere, but head coach....no.

You are really gonna hold that position? #15 ALL-TIME in winning percentage and no one will offer him a head coaching job. Okay, don’t like the dude. But seriously?

Here’s food for thought! So with Kevin taking it year to year maybe the die is already cast to move Magic Mike upstairs to GM and promote Tereyl Austin to head coach. Fits rather nicely into the minority hiring aspect that the Rooney’s have promoted. Just sayin!

I think the big difference between Tomlin and Mike McCarthy is their QBs. Aaron Rodgers is way overrated and Ben is underrated. Then by extension, McCarthy got no credit at all for any Packer wins, it's all Rodgers, but Tomlin is generally given credit for any steelers success.

So McCarthy had a team with Rodgers and almost nothing else and he's seen as a failure for not winning enough. Tomlin has mostly had a loaded team with Ben, AB, Bell, and if the steelers don't win, it's because Ben's overrated and didn't do enough.

If Tomlin ever does get fired, the only way he doesn't get another HC job immediately is if he turns them down.

Don't even joke about such a thing.
Besides that job will probably go to Ben because he is our unquestioned leader. His idol is John Elway.
Just a matter of checking off the bucket list: get more TDS than John , more yards, tied in Superbowl wins but plans to do what Elway did at the end of his career and win back to back Superbowls but don't forget Ben is signed for 3 years so he will go for back to back to back, ending up with 5 rings.
Just ahead of Terry Bradshaw and just behind Tom Brady (screw Tom, I make more money than him anyway). Retire, buy a **** load of car dealerships, become GM of his team, hire Byron Leftwich as HC, demote Tomlin to video replay challenge assistant, bring Tom Brady out of retirement and win another Superbowl. Then spend the next 7 years of his 1st round draft picks selecting a QB to replace him. The die is cast. Just saying

Just read an article citing Bouchette that Colbert will be on year to year contracts and stay as long as he wants and the club is competitive. Tomlin will be extended before training camp. You gotta be kidding me.

This makes me happy and I chuckle...

LOL....It's funny because this Forum hates Tomlin.

Fact is 80-90% of the league would love to have his success. Yeah, I said it....

Ranked #19 Greatest Head Coach of All-Time here https://athlonsports.com/nfl/25-greatest-head-coaches-nfl-history

That's absolute nonsense! Hate? This team has been a big jumble **** since getting bounced by the great HOF qb Tim Tebow in Denver. I hate losing to teams they should steamroll. I hate that the fundamentals of the game like tackling haven't been addressed in so long I forget when they actually could tackle. The standard has been weak, soft full of themselves and whatever personal ******* brand they're focused on. A team with so much has done so very little over the last 5 years.

I hate those cheating Boston fags have 6 championships with much less talent.

I don't hate the coach,I do hate the results. I could give 2 ***** about non losing seasons. Big deal.

He would get another job, unquestionably he would get another job. That doesn't mean he is doing a good job here. He has had a great deal of success here, but also cannot fix a problem in season with coaching. If it gets fixed at all, and often doesn't see his own specialty unit of DBs it only gets fixed with an influx of talent or like the oline, an influx of talent and a quality position coach.

Ben as our GM? Yeah right! Ben will ride off into the sunset and enjoy his family and life living very, very large and why would he want GM headaches? No way Jose!

In all seriousness, this just GUARANTEES we have zero shot at a ring for years. And at that point, we are looking at life after Ben, i.e. the 80's and maybe the 90's. If you are OK with that, then God bless.

Honestly Shades hasn't really been through as many assistants as Cowher was either. The Bruce was kind of an outlier, a barely adequate coordinator who ended up as an interim head coach when the Colts head coach got cancer and shockingly turned out to be pretty good when he didn't have to call plays. DLB and Mrs. Haley's Husband had been coordinators and head coaches before they were here. For Shades to have a coaching tree you would need for, say, Joey Porter to become a pretty good DC and move on to HC.

Maybe but I think we have a damn good shot that, that dumb *** non coach poster goes on a substantially longer vacation. Than the bullshit one is is now serving

He's not giving grandchildren to Dungy anytime soon. Shades is shooting blanks and fired the only guy who amounted to anything anywhere else in The Bruce.

Coaching tree...................... He keeps bubbles cheeks even though he was ranked 27th in the league. NO tree available.

Salute the nation

Agree, but The Bruce needed to go. He wasn't really fired though, the team simply didn't give him another contract, same with The Toddster.

I'm ok with this. Not a Tomlin bandwagon guy but it's the right move right now. With BR7 riding out a few more seasons (barring injury) I think Cool Shades will be done when he is.

I wouldn't be surprised if they gave Tomlin a life time contract and a blank check.

I have tried understanding the Rooneys with the Rooney Rule, the loyalty to Tomlin and of course significant support for Obama during his run and can only come to the conclusion that the Rooney family was black in a former life

Bill Clinton was The First Black President until Obama came along -- and can play the sax. We might say the Rooney family were the first black owners, but Al Davis had like a million times more street cred.

Rooney was Tom Willis, while Al Davis was George Jefferson.
