Tomlin Blames Everyone but Himself

I am not sold that the Rooney's hired Tomlin to be the face of the Rooney Rule. He is a charismatic guy and a good character guy. I can honestly believe he made a great first impression. In his early years, I'll admit I was enamored by his ability to be articulate as well as his no nonsense bravado. The odd thing we've learned in the past few years of the Bell & Brown dramas is that he really isn't as no nonsense as he appeared to be. He clearly allowed the inmates to run the asylum. Kinda like a good relationship that endured some kind of trauma, sometimes it's just too awkward and contrived to try and continue. This season and how the team ultimately responds will be telling if ownership and us as fans can sustain the relationship with this coach.

So I was correct. We haven’t won less than 5 games in my lifetime

WOW. it’s been 50 years since we haven’t won at least 5 games
My lord mike Tomlin is taking us back 50 years unless he turns this thing around
Unbelievable

Only 9 losing seasons since 1970.
I used to always remind friends and foes alike that since the NFL merger in 1970 the Steelers were the most successful franchise they've seen in their lifetimes.

Can't really say that anymore. That designation can arguably go to the Pats.
When the talking heads talked about "the model franchise" they were talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Just yesterday on a sports talk show heard a talker say how the Patriots were the model franchise. Sigh.
The "The Stairway to 7" slogan coined by Steeler Nation seems is being built for the Pats.

Thanks Tomlin. As the only the 3rd head coach since 1970 you're letting the fall of a great nation happen under your tenure. If I were in your shoes I would not be sleeping well at night.

We need a Trump in Pitt! MPGA!!

Listening to Tomlin, Cam and the other players, our horrible D keeps circling back to coaching. Their talking about 2 gaps and being in sub-packages up to 75% of the time with only 2 D linemen and how it can allow seams and cause issues on the D and it allows the O linemen to push around the lighter LB's. Yet, we keep doing the same ******* thing over and over and over again. I believe that is the definition of insanity. This 4 year experiment has NOT worked. Stop doing it and keep three D linemen in the game. We need a legit NT. Enough of this bullshit about being in sub-package football. Who makes the call to be in a sub-package? The ******* coach and that's Tomlin, not Butler. If you can't figure out how to make sub-packages work and we've had 4 years, then go back to the basics and keep your 3 DL in the game. I'm no coach but listening to this bullshit pisses me off beyond belief.

Tomlin does need to go. Lackadazical approach to coaching in general is stimulated by the lack of a head coach. Players / coordinators / team personal / water boy all follow the example of the head coach. Assclown wasn't the only one late to team functions as it was documented even coordinators have been late as well, and accepted. Until solid structure is administered there will be slacking dicipline and it will trickle down to every aspect of the team. Lazy game planing / lazy execution/ lazy drafting / you get the point. Known as a players coach is a polite way of saying lackadazical coach. He'd be much better if know as IRON Mike but then he'd have to raise his pedigree to obtain that and as shown the last several years.......... That T'aint happeniN.

Salute the nation

I've been right there with you bitching about this for years. But, I don't really think they are catching on. They are saying this **** but still think it will work. It hasn't worked in 4 years. I guess Tomlin has them all brainwashed or they are just trying to agree with their coach and not ruffle any feathers. It is pure insanity.

If the players would just execute the play 100% correctly then it would work. Of course if both sides execute the play 100% does it work or not work?

A lot of good thinking in this post. I will point out that we failed repeatedly to get past NE and Brady in with 3DL either. I believe the moves have been made to go farther in the playoffs in the Brady era. Granted, it is not working, as you’ve pointed out and we all know.

Nothing wrong with a nickle package when circumstances such as offensive personnel, down/distance, etc indicate pass coming. Our version of the nickle, however, leaves one wondering.

On whether Tomlin was comfortable with his game plan on Sunday...

On whether Tomlin is ok going forward with Rudolph for the rest of the season...

On what he thought of Barron's effort last week...

On whether the new trade acquisitions over the last couple weeks indicates a change in how the Steelers treat team management...

And finally, on whether or not anybody in the front office regrets releasing Tuzar Skipper or Dionte Spencer?

(apologize if I got Spencer's name wrong... You know what I meant...)

Is this real? Or satire? Hard to tell. LOL

I don't have a problem with a nickel or a dime or a quarter or whatever you want to call it, but when you only have 2 D linemen in the game, that 3rd and 4th guy rushing at the line are undersized and will get pushed around. Cam was even admitting to that in one article I read this morning but he is like what Vader posted. If everyone does everything 100%, then we are in good shape. If not, we are ******. How many times this year and the last couple of years have we given up 3rd and longs? Too many to count. And, how many times did they get that long yardage 10+ yards by running the ******* ball? Again, too many to count. You need 3 D linemen and one of them needs to be someone that can command double teams on a regular basis. The experiment for the Steelers is over. No matter how you slice it, we can't get it done the way they are scheming and coaching it right now.

To me it's about situational football. I know there are times when you need to rush 2 and drop people in zone... like when it's 3rd and 16 and Russell Wilson is the QB. You do that because you're just defending the 1st down marker. But when it's 1st down and goal on the 2 yard line a 2 DL look is just ridiculous. The situation should dictate your defense. It seems the coaches want to skip the entire first step and go right for the 2 DL solution. I don't like the standard 2 DL look when it's 1st down and 10. It is just begging the offense to run the ball. They need better situational football awareness.

yup. that is why I said our version of it leaves one wondering.
