Tomlin Blames Everyone but Himself

Since Bell had to settle for a smaller deal, how can you say the Steelers lowballed him? Seems they offered him more than market value.

That's the company line they want u to swallow.

If Steelers just said OK Laveon we will give u your contract, we wont dicker and lowball u because u mean that much to our offense, sign here

Prob one solved, then AB looks around and says, u know what_we still a winning tems, they take care of their superstars, i like it here, no drama, prob 2 solved

Yeah like that

Prob. 1 - They offered Bell more than he's making now, and more than anyone else offered.
Prob. 2 - They made AB the highest paid WR in the NFL.

Yep, they sure didn't want those guys.

And with a happy and content Bell and AB on the team Ben doesn't stress his arm trying to force everything to second string WRs and never hurts his arm, playoffs bound, baby!

A butterfly flaps its wings in South America......0-3

Interesting take.

Interesting take.

Interesting take,........ Is that the first time you've ever seen a guy spew **** out of his mouth. Bell & tony would have kept Ben from elbow problems.... right. Those elbow problems started when Arians used my one arm **** flinging monkeys to call the offensive plays for him and Spike was full of **** back then as well.

I was just being sarcastic DIC, kinda like "Bold strategy Cotton".

For the charming Bengal fans...
The Stealers already have an excuse for when we beat the **** out of them Monday night, that they were hampered and would have won if Ben was not out with Rapist Elbow.
And is Joe Mixon going to beat the Steelers like an ex-girlfriend?

And Spike... $17 million a year for 5 years all guaranteed. Really? You'd just pay Bell that and magically all would be right in the world. (Except of course your cap. It would be in the toilet, but you know...)

We were bitching when we got stuck with $21 million in dead money. Can you imagine Bell getting hurt or suspended in season one and being on the hook for an additional $68 million?

That's what worries me. If the Bengals come out pumped and ready to play, and the Steelers are their usual flat, unadjusting selves, it could be a real problem. And it seems like this team always plays the Bengals better on the road, than at home. I swear to ******* God, the beat writers better be holding Tomlin's feet to the fire if the Bengals clown the Steelers on Monday night. No more softball bullshit.

I hope we beat them but I won't be shocked if we don't. If their stupid fans want to gloat over beating our backup QB to go 1-3 have at it.

Sad pathetic little lives that they have.

me too on the sarcastic but Spike's act is getting old, just for the record.

This football team is who few on here thought they would be st this juncture of the early season. They have turned into the team that Tomlin always overlooked because they were one of the dregs of the league. You know, one of those teams good ones are suppose to beat.
We are one of the dregs that cannot and better not overlook any opponent and that includes the Bengals.

Shoot the dog, install field turf, sell the team to Toronto, lol

So my stomach is finally settled enough to go and actually read what that idiot said. Yep. Confirmed. Not one word about coaching, preparation, or game plan. But at least we're not going to blink - https://www.49ers.com/news/49ers-steelers-reactions

Head coach Mike Tomlin on the Steelers loss to the 49ers:
“You know, we lost the game today and we did, we lost the game on not enough play making. Specifically in the second half I thought significant components of the game, in terms of how it unfolded, is we turned the ball over twice and on both occasions we gave up touchdowns. First of all, we’ve got to do a good job of taking care of the ball. We know that. Particularly, in the state that we’re in from a health standpoint, we didn’t do it. And then subsequently, we have to support the offense and get off at least some of the time, you know? We turned the ball over twice. They scored two touchdowns in the second half and really that’s the difference in the game. In the first half, we were getting turnovers and we were settling for field goals. So, there’s the, you know, that’s the storyline of the game, if you will. Such is life in the National Football League. We take responsibility for it. We own it. Not good enough today. We won’t blink."

Tomlin on the Steelers not being able to finish the game:
“Like I outlined, we got turnovers in the first half, we settled for field goals. They got turnovers in the second half and scored touchdowns. So, thus the outcome. When you get them down you’ve got to work in concert as a football team, you know? And, they worked in better concert than we did. When we put their defense on the short field in the first half, they made us settle for three. When our defense was on the short field in the second half, they got touchdowns. And so, it’s all of us collectively, that’s football teams. We didn’t do enough today to win it. We didn’t work in concert to accentuate the positives. We didn’t work in concert well enough to minimize the negative.”

Well another 0-3 over the next 3 and it won't be pretty. I do think we will beat the bungles.

I don't think so. Noll is dead.

Oh, and they started 0-4 in 2013. Under Tomlin.

And kept him for the next 6+ seasons.

I'm going to take a TON of good stuff from those statements and plug it in to the Coach Mike Tomlin Interview Question Answer Generator.

It's going to be more accurate and realistic than EVER!

On whether Tomlin was comfortable with his game plan on Sunday...

Fear is a warm beer served on a hot day, for the record. There are reasons why that happened and we gotta look at all reasons. I'm not going to comment on that, per se.

On whether Tomlin is ok going forward with Rudolph for the rest of the season...

Not every story has a middle part, per se. When you get them down you've got to work in concert as a football team, you know? We are worried about a myriad of things. Obviously when you don't have clarity you are going to go with your best-guess scenario, what have you.

On what he thought of Barron's effort last week...

If you're afraid, bears can smell it, for the record. We accept responsibility for that. Really that's all I have to say on the matter, intrinsically.

On whether the new trade acquisitions over the last couple weeks indicates a change in how the Steelers treat team management...

We embrace adversity, for the record. Every game has its defining moments. We're going to go back into the lab, Such is life in the National Football League.

And finally, on whether or not anybody in the front office regrets releasing Tuzar Skipper or Dionte Spencer?

Second-guessing is for people who's first guess was second-best, in some instances. We are willing to explore options that gives us the very best chances. We're not gonna sit on our hands, given the situation.

(apologize if I got Spencer's name wrong... You know what I meant...)

In response to an untranslated question from a reporter in Portuguese, where Tomlin does not speak the language:

The more we sharpen iron, the sharper the cutting stone, obviously. But we need to overcome our undercomings, if you will, to reach the popcorn level of splash plays, obviously, that we need to manifest the four score and seven years ago manifest destiny.

The stunned local media said nothing. A junior reporter from Mellon Middle School asked Tomlin why he partially quoted the Gettysburg Address, and what he plans to do to improve the pitiful 3rd down conversion rate, to which Tomlin replied:

I still really lack a little clarity there. I was told by a Lincoln family member that the war was over, so that’s why we took our team off the field. And then they went into review mode and things of that nature, looking at the sad production by the popcorn machine. I’m not questioning whether or not they did the appropriate thing in going to Jiffypop, which always burns in my experience, it just was tough communicating during that time in terms of understanding what were the processes that produced the actions taken. I’m sure we’ll get clarity at some point on the Jiffypop issue.

Once again, local media were too stunned to ask any detailed questions, and too much in love with their jobs to ask what the @#$% the prior answers even meant.

"Significant" was a word of significance this week.

Right now, Tomlin is not a winning coach and hasn't been for almost an entire calendar year.

Tomlin has oversight of a BILLION DOLLAR BUSINESS as you point out. In that case, shouldn't we all expect a little more than what we're seeing out of him and his oversight of a decade-long draft-stocked defense?

The "tell me who you're going to hire" is ridiculous when the Rooneys did just fine in 1969 and 1992 in bringing in unheralded guys that nobody knew about.

Things have a shelf life. It's pretty clear that a hard reset is needed on both sides of the ball.

So, Tomlin needs a a clock management coach, an X's and O's coach, and "GENERALS AROUND HIM?"

What pray tell is/will be Tomlin's actual area of expertise in that case? We can use process of elimination and safely assume it won't be defense, clock management, schemes, challenges, or even "coach you'd most like to play for" after the past 2 years.

I think some fans are just enamored with having him as the head coach and "face" of the franchise. He's been below the line for years in the finer points of his position. At some point, this is the NFL and people are held accountable in a results-oriented business.

And why do we continue to use only 2 DL instead of using that third DL Javon Hargraves??? The only time we get pressure is when he's in the game but no, dumb *** Tomlin insists on running this Tampa 2 **** thats been exploited now for years.

I know this will NEVER happen but my dream is that the entire staff is terminated after this season and an offer to William Cowher is made to be Vice President/GM of Football Operation with total autonomy. He hires the head coach and they hire the best assistants out there. He controls the draft with input from his HC and Scouts of course but its his baby, and the one thing he can do is evaluate personnel, especially defensive people. We've all had enough of the Rooney Rule Experiment and its time to move on. The Rooney's can feel good about themselves for giving the minority coach his shot and if another team wants to hire him immediately, oh well. Why should we even care.

Helluva a dream
