Tomlin: 6 out of 9 seasons in playoffs

Say what you want but you cant say he doesnt get it or understand what the Standards in Pittsburgh are.

“I’m not looking for nuggets of success,” Tomlin said. “I don’t want to hang my hat on and feel good because I won a playoff game in recent years. That doesn’t change the fact that I haven’t won a Super Bowl [since the 2008 season].

"You’ve got to be very conscious in the ways that you challenge yourself and the ways you seek comfort. Talking about playoff games and playoff wins, that’s right for most. But that’s not the standards that we have around here. Sure, we need to win playoff games, but those are nuggets you pick up along the way in terms of what you’re singularly focused on.”

"I’ve had one successful season. That’s it. I mean that.”

this quote shows he is way smarter than a lot of you "fans" want to give him credit for.

We

Won

The

*******

Game........by two/three scores..........never allowing a touchdown to boot. Cant y'all just be happy with a win and stop mining for bitching material ? Hell, im convinced we could win the next game 49-14 and theres gonna be someone criticizing a fourth down decision or a trick play call. Football aint about perfection and neither is life. It is about executing your best, giving your all and letting the rest of that which you cant control, fall into place.

I swear, some of you all expect 16-0 seasons, 12-for-15 3rd down conversion rates, 20 pt victory margins and a willingness to abandon any 2pt conversion attempts. Perfection never happens. Ask NE....they cheated and still failed at perfection.

We have like a 70% success rate on 2pt tries...unheard of.....with that amount of success, **** im goin for two every score.

So

*******

What?

I was extremely happy with the win...still doesn't make those three decisions correct.

Because they FRICKEN WON - that's why. None of us are paid by the team or the NFL - we're here because we're FANS. Yes, you can have your opinion on "how you feel you would have made a coaching decision; but, until you're being paid to make those calls---sit back and know your role, which is FAN.

"Know your role"? LOL.

Excuse the **** out of me..here I thought this was a Steelers discussion board. Didn't realize there's nothing to discuss after a win other than the tint of your black-and-gold glasses.

I admit to being very confused by when Tomlin chooses to go for two, but this decision is not as cut and dry as some suggest. Up 12, you lose if you give up a TD (and EP) and 2 FGs. Up 13, you tie if you give up a TD (and EP) and 2 FGs. I assume Tomlin thought, given their success on 2 point conversions, that a 72% chance that a TD (and EP) and 2 FGs ties rather than beats you was better than a 28% chance that a TD (and 2 point conversion) and one FG ties you rather than the Browns going for it on 4th down rather than kick a FG in that last scenario.

Wow.

And what were the chances of Cleveland putting together 3 scoring drives in the last 10:43 of the game? I'd suggest that they were significantly less than the chances of the Browns scoring only a touchdown and a field goal.

I just don't see that as obvious. 10:43 is plenty of time for 3 drives, especially if the offense commits another TO. One could argue that the Browns had shown an ability to kick FGs but not score TDs so it was unlikely they have two TD drives as compared to one TD drive and two FG drives. In short, I don't like a LOT of Tomlin's in-game decisions, but this one didn't bother me personally.

One shouldn't be arguing about two TD drives, because being ahead by 12 or 13 is still less than 14.

I am arguing that it's insane to not force the Browns to score those TWO touchdowns to win the game, rather than potentially allowing them to tie the game with ONE touchdown and ONE field goal.
