I admit. I had absolutely no faith that Tomlin, Fichtner and Butler could come up with a game plan that could beat even the Bengals. I watched the game completely stress free, expecting nothing at all. Really just hoping that Conner and Washington would have decent games and that Mason Rudolph might show some development.

But... it seems when the chips are seriously down, when the poo is heading directly toward the fan, the coaching staff hunkered down and came up with a winning combination across every facet of the game with perhaps the exception of special teams. (Although, gotta say - It's good to have Boz back.)

So!

Congratulations, and THANK YOU coaches for putting together a good plan. Now, would it be too much to ask for you guys to hunker down like that on a weekly basis and continue to outperform expectations? I am thrilled, but would point out, this is a reprieve, not a pardon.

Nonethless... I recommend Frank's Hot Sauce for your crow. Makes it at least taste like spicy ****.

I agree with you that the offensive game plan was improved but...
1. It was the Bengals who are one of the worst teams in the league this year.
2. Need to start letting Mason throw down field...won't be able to dink and dunk forever.
3. Wtf took so long to use Samuels?? All summer/preseason was about using Samuels versatility and getting him and Conner on the field at the same time yet none of that the first 3 games.
4. Tomlins idiotic challenge. The only way you challenge that is if Holton makes the catch then there is something to gain. It was literally 1st and 20 (losing a TO and challenge) or 2nd and 10. It actually turned out better we lost the challenge because the next play was an 11 yard pass and it ended up being 2nd and 9. Whether or not it was PI (it wasn't) is irrelevant given the situation.

I don't see anything as fixed after beating one of the worst teams in the league at home in prime time...string a few of these together and then we can talk about eating crow.

Don't want to jinx him but Boz is definitely back on track. No problem with his FGs and each of his extra points were right down the middle every time. Last year there was no telling where they would go.

If you didn't see anything fixed, you may need glasses. Andy Dalton put up 400+ yards on Seattle's defense by himself. I'm not saying the Bengals aren't bad, but the defense held them to 175 total yards (and 8 sacks) while the offense got creative and sustained drives.

Last year he hyad an injury so there is that but bottom line is he is kicking way better and I bet pain free. I'm glad for the kid aND yes for what the coaching did last night.

AS said, lets string together a few of these to see if the staff has stepped up or not. Baltiwhore will be a good test.

Salute the nation

I didnt say anything about our defense being a problem although I think the improvement there has more to do with the addition of Fitz rather than a scheme change. I was referring to the offense not being fixed. And that same Seattle D Dalton lit up for 400 yards, we were only able to muster 260 total yards against...what's that say about our O??

I'll never understand why they kept his injury under the radar. They had a whole fan base ready to tar and feather the guy. If we knew he was injured, we'd have cut him some slack and pushed for him to go on IR (for what good our demands would be :) ). Also why wait until the last week to find a replacement? That was a huge oversight by management/coaching staff and cost us a shot at the playoffs. IMO.

that they need to improve.Hell both sides of the ball does, regardless it was still a step in the right direction.

We unleashed hell

While I know that's mostly tongue-in-cheek, just read that those 8 sacks were a career high for Dalton and is tied for the most sacks the Steelers have had in a game in the past 15 years.

The rats will be a good test.

Crow dinner is premature. They had a good game. Everybody showed up. A lovely time was had by all. It was one game. If they show up for the balance of the season they could win some more games, who knows how many, it depends on development. That is where it is reasonable to be skeptical - this staff doesn't develop anything, much less players.

It's nice that they had a great game on national TV. But let's measure that against the expectations that were on the table when they all signed their contracts. And against 'the standard is the standard'. Yes, there is a standard in the minds of the fan base - and that is that they compete for a playoff berth, and contend for the big show. Its also reasonable to assume that the shareholders signed up with similar expectations. The record speaks for itself, and the most anyone can say about last nights success is that we aren't 0-4. Crow isn't appropriate until they are in the playoffs THIS year, otherwise it's just another wasted season. IR'd HoF franchise QB aside, the investment was made in a playoff caliber team. One can argue the player choices, but the investment was made. It is incumbent on the coaching staff to return value on that investment - that is the ONLY reason they receive their checks, and ultimately the only measure.

Tomlin gets criticism, and justifiably so. He inherited a SB roster that carried him through his first 5 years or so. That roster showed up and met the expectation, regardless of who wandered the sideline. They aged. And with the exception of the IR'd HoF franchise QB, they departed. Against the measure of 'the standard', this roster has wallowed in mediocrity for myriad reasons that have been argued exhaustively. In the last analysis, Tomlin has to develop and coach that investment to return the expected value. If he does, it would be reasonable that his harshest critics consider that dinner. Otherwise...

Bulshit. Doesn't matter. The Bungles suck, so what the Steelers did against them simply does not matter.

On the other hand, what the Rats did against the mighty Dolphins - holy ****, that is evidence of how great they are and what an amazing passer Lamar Jackson is!!

A win is a win, and you can only play who is on your schedule. I'm not going to get super pumped yet, let's see what we do against a much better team/coached team when we play Baltimore

To me all these teams suck. You have the pats*** and KC. Then a lot of suck behind them. Some teams are trying to loss (Miami) and others are in re-building mode and don't care if they win. I think teams fired 8 or so coaches last year. So you have a lot of teams just trying to figure things out. We've got 2 new coaches just in our division. Which is why I thought the Steelers would easily win the division this year with Ben. No reason to lose to the clowns or bungles. That's 4 wins and even if you split with the rats that's 5.

I see another pats*** SB vs. whoever the NFC comes up with.

It was only the Bungles. Although I thought the game would be closer.

We are a bad team. The bangles are hot garbage though. When we beat some good teams I’ll have more faith but not now.

A bad team but that doesn't mean they have to stay that way.

I still think there is enough talent there to be a good team.

But this way of thinking will need to translate into wins.

Steelers have started out too many times ****** then improved to get a good reading on them.

We will see what transpires.

What kills me about this Steelers team is that they're schizophrenic. You don't know what you're gonna get from week to week.

I disagree. I think we all knew what we were getting week to week until last night. That offense was a radical departure. They won't be able to run that successfully every week. Rats are going to be prepared for the Single Wing Jet Sweep stuff now that it is on tape. Hopefully it is sufficient spark and deviation from the norm to allow MR to acclimate to NFL mid and long passing game. Teams are going to adapt to the Jet Sweep stuff pretty darn fast.

BTW - not complaining. I am actually stunned they took such a radical approach and quietly pleased.

I'm hoping they spotted a weakness in the Bengals defense and exploited it using the tricks we witnessed last night. Hopefully they are game planning against the crows defensive liabilities as well and will exploit it accordingly with the power I and mid to long range passes. Mfff.. Bawahhahhhaaa!!! Who the **** am I kidding!! They'll just see what happens and go with it. :)
