This Crow tastes like ****!

I agree with you that the offensive game plan was improved but...
1. It was the Bengals who are one of the worst teams in the league this year.
2. Need to start letting Mason throw down field...won't be able to dink and dunk forever.
3. Wtf took so long to use Samuels?? All summer/preseason was about using Samuels versatility and getting him and Conner on the field at the same time yet none of that the first 3 games.
4. Tomlins idiotic challenge. The only way you challenge that is if Holton makes the catch then there is something to gain. It was literally 1st and 20 (losing a TO and challenge) or 2nd and 10. It actually turned out better we lost the challenge because the next play was an 11 yard pass and it ended up being 2nd and 9. Whether or not it was PI (it wasn't) is irrelevant given the situation.

I don't see anything as fixed after beating one of the worst teams in the league at home in prime time...string a few of these together and then we can talk about eating crow.

We are a bad team. The bangles are hot garbage though. When we beat some good teams I’ll have more faith but not now.

To both of you...

The only game the Steelers were 'outclassed' was the Patriots game. Period.

We lost to the 49'ers and Seahawks by a combined SIX POINTS. Two point loss to the unbeaten 9ers. Four points to the Seahawks. Yes, we lost those games; but if you can see improvement you just don't want to see it.

I don't fully agree w/ Vader, but his statement is correct - there are so many mediocre teams, in the AFC, this year it's not funny.

When Ben went down it didn't mean to throw the season for a premium draft pick. The team sucked it up and they're playing to win the games that are scheduled. All we have to do is root for 'em. We were spoiled w/ the BIG 3...now, they're not here...this season, at the very least, is going to test the resolve of many.

The question is, where will you stand when the dust settles???

Vince and Vance will be back and no major injuries on a short week

Ravens looking shaky, all hands on deck to win another one. Thats all we can ask.

Who kidnapped Spike and what did you do with him? We're prepared to pay a randsom, not much, but could throw some spare change together.

This maybe the most positive post you've ever made. :)

Talk is cheap, the money is made by making plays on the field, lol

I only report what I see, I liked the game plan, not being predictable works

Obviously a healthy V&V in the stadium, if you will, should make for some interesting mismatches in that regard.

I disagree. I think we all knew what we were getting week to week until last night. That offense was a radical departure. They won't be able to run that successfully every week. Rats are going to be prepared for the Single Wing Jet Sweep stuff now that it is on tape.

I don't agree with this. The Wildcat is a tremendous weapon since it is very effective against teams in base defense, with 3 or 4 big guys on the line. When the Steelers show Wildcat, the opponent can and will walk a safety close to the LOS, but the Wildcat beats teams OUTSIDE of the big guys, with the safety now in the box forced to decide which guy to defend - the pitch back or the guy getting the snap. If he goes after the pitch back, he is going after a guy outside the box, on the move, trying to make a 1-on-1 tackle in the open field, where the big defenders are now running in pursuit.

The play gets positive yards, and forces big guys to run. I know you have the game on tape, so I recommend you look at how much the tackles were forced to go side-to-side instead of straight upfield, where they want to go and where they excel. Look at how they trudged back to the huddle after chasing another 6, 7, 9 or 12 yard play.

The Wildcat is a very big option. Samuels sure as hell knows what he is doing. If he sees a crease, he simply takes the free 5 yards. If the safety and/or LBer is filling that gap, he gives it to Conner for an open-field run. Or reception. Whatever.

Look at it this way.

Seattle and Buffalo barely beat the Bungles.
Whereas SF trounced them ...by the same margin we did....24 points.

Really good teams trounce bad teams, just like we did.

Therefore we must be a damn good team after all!

Stewey, a really good team is either 4-0 or 3-1, not 1-3.

The Ratbirds, even at home will be a heck of a test for this team.

We have a short week and the Ratbirds were embarrassed by the Brownies.

Baltimore will be loaded for bear. We need to go all out and play like there is no tomorrow.

Never seen anyone get so worked up about a win over a winless Bungles team.

Samuels is a damn good football player. He was a find. And you're right, if he knows what he's doing (which he's clearly shown he does), that throws a wrench into what an opposing defense can do. When he got his first start against New England last season, I was pretty blown away (given he never even toted the frickin' rock for an entire game before in his life!).

There is absolutely no doubt about that.

So an 0-3 team beats another 0-3 team and all of a sudden it's time to eat crow? Our D also had 5 turnovers against the 9ers and we still lost...I don't care how close it was, you have to win when you get 5 turnovers.

Where did I say we haven't improved? In fact I specifically said the defense has improved with the addition of Fitz. Mason looks good enough to win games and is also improving as he gets more game time. Samuels looks great.

I think the fact that some of us are being so critical means we aren't throwing in the towel just because Ben went down. We still have high expectations and pardon me if 1-3 with a win over a team we all chalked up as a W before the season started doesn't get some of us excited.

I am fully aware of what the Single Wing and its ******* child, the Wildcat, is designed to do. I used to run a lot of SW football and it is a lot of fun to run (and the misdirection possibilities are juicy). But in the NFL as the base offense every week in the NFL, no. As a wrinkle, sure. Not as the base. Why? Because unless Samuels proves he is a threat to throw the ball downfield, the defense can play man which ensures even hats "in the box". Simply make your fastest LB/S as Monster to spy on Samuels when he lines up for direct snap. When teams see no MR on the field, they are going to trot out a Monster speed package. For me, the next iteration to keep the gravy going another few weeks is to let Samuels or the jet sweep back pull and and toss an old "halfback pass" type strike. That will help freeze the guys downfield in man coverage. But as a long term offense in the NFL, no.

I am actually stunned they took such a radical approach and quietly pleased.

Doesn't that kinda fall into line with what I said about not knowing what to expect from them?

I'm old enough to have played wing back before....

I am not that excited that they beat the Bengals.

I am excited by what we saw with the gameplan. It means the coaches are capable of being more creative and putting the players they have in positions to be successful. I must admit to becoming very worried if they were capable of that. Let's hope it continues.

For the very first time, we did not know what to expect from them. Before that, we all knew what was coming. This was the first time they showed radical thinking instead of being predictable. This was novel. And I kinda like it.

It was perfect for this game. I hope they don't think they've figured it out and keep doing it. That short passing game works against a bad bungles defense. It won't work against better teams. They should be innovating all the time instead of just relying on Ben to do it. Now maybe they actually coach something.

I'm not so sure about that though. Who was the last team to beat the Patriots? We've beaten some really good teams before under Tomlin and then completely **** the bed the next week against a bottom dweller.

That's a good point. A HoF QB certainly covers up a lot of warts.

Beating teams doesn't mean we aren't predictable. The game plans have been stale and not very creative for quite a while. If you think they were some how creative before this, that is fine. We dont' have to agree. But last night was a huge deviation from anything they have ever done on offense in a very, very long time. I think we can agree on that.
