The Steelers Are Legit Super Bowl Contenders

Of course this group always believes we’re superbowl contenders lol we’re the last of the true believers or we wouldn’t be here fighting for our right to party!! Ppl remember where they were when Kennedy was shot I remember where I was during the immaculate reception happened and I remember where I was when Harrison picked Warner for the incredible “super pick 6” I’m glad Omar went after this and didn’t just sit back on his hands and its not like he bet the farm… the Steelers rarely get to pick qbs in the top ten, The last 2 we did was Bradshaw and Big Ben. Our time will come to pick a franchise qb but with the team we have now not going to happen soon… so seize the day! Carpe diem!! Let that be our war cry!! Who gives a flying f*#k how old the quarterback is!! Let’s go out and kick some glorious azz one more time just for the hell of it!! GGGGOOOO SSSTTTEEEELLLERRRSSSS!!!

I'll save my optimism until they show me they remember how to run the ball. Added bonus points for the D learning what a 3 and out is.

Or stopping the run or anything. That second or third play with Henry ***** slapping Minkah was hard to watch.

Yeah, I'm still stewing over this deflating uninspiring performance.

I was so pissed that day. As I always say I can handle a loss but an embarrassing loss.. something needs changed.

I love the optimism. For me, the key will be the defense playing at an elite level all season. They have the talent on this side of the ball to be excellent and need to prove it all year. Rodgers doesn't have to be great for the Steelers to have a good season. We've had terrible QB play over the past 5-6 years and still scratch and claw to playoff contention. This is the most talent the offense has had in years and even at his age, Rodgers should be good enough to help put the Steelers in that second tier of teams in the AFC if all goes well.
Love this.

Berm believes that "if the OL holds up and plays above the line" - we're going for #7 THIS YEAR.

I'm starting "Sippin' On Sunday" early. That's my patented name so write it down!!!

Tape, with all due respect come back after your hangover and you’ve sobered up and rethink this.
I just don’t share your optimism about this organization from ownership to coaching. Hope I’m pleasantly surprised this year but all the usual suspects are still in place.

Really? Surely you jest Youngblood!
Posters don’t need to be tagged just for stating their opinions. It’s a message board where posters share insights and opinions. Just because we don’t agree or share the same opinion is no reason to start with the name calling.
But he's right...

We were driving home from family trip to the Rockies yesterday. My youngest son said it best. Let's just enjoy the ride not worry about the result. It's probably gonna be the same or similar. But there were some really good games last year and some parts they looked exciting.

What is this 3 and out you are talking about?🤔🤪

Salute the nation

Yeah, i said it. Maybe it's because I drank too much of a gift bottle of rum (Presser's British Navy Rum).
You are correct, sir. It's the rum.

My prediction will be the usual 10-7 (hey, I was right the last two years) and they get smoked in the WC game by the Bungles, Rats, Bills, or Chefs.

The rum doesn't change my opinion, it just makes me not give a **** about posting it and seeing the negativity.

For those who think I'm crazy, tell me what I was wrong about in that post.

I made a major caveat. If the OL comes together like it can, then they will have a run game that's tough to stop, Aaron Rodgers with time to throw, and some good weapons.

Do you think Rodgers is washed? Why? He looked healthy last year. The problem was the Jets OL was garbage and Rodgers had no time to throw. The Steeler OL was pretty good in pass pro last year. Fields and Wilson had enough time. The problems were Fields is slow to read and Russ ignored the middle of the field and thought he still had the wheels to extend plays.

Rodgers reads very quickly and uses the whole field.

We haven't seen the Arthur Smith offense yet. He modified it for Fields and then for Russ. He even had to change his run game for Najee. Now Smith has a QB, OL, RB and WR1 that can execute his offense. They have 3 good TEs. Fautanu is like an extra 1st rounder. People forget that he was very impressive last year and likely would have started at RT.

Last year the top 3 CBs were JPJ, Donte Jackson and Beanie Bishop. This year it's JPJ, Darius Slay, and Jalen Ramsey. That's a massive upgrade.

Last year they depended on an injured Ogunjobi at DE and the depth was Loudermilk and Lowery. This year they add 1st rounder Harmon at DE. They add a massive NT Yahya Black for run situations. That's an upgrade plus depth.

The defense is more versatile now.

Everyone wants to blame Tomlin and act like they just can't win with him. Except for the fact that they did win a SB with him. You can criticize Tomlin but or any coach but it's talent that wins far more than coaching. Tomlin won when he had a QB, good OL and defense.

Do I think they will actually win the SB this year? No. But they are a contender. By contender, I mean a team that can win 1 or 2 playoff games.

Whether you want to believe it or not, the steelers have greatly upgraded their talent the last 2 years and are in good position to draft a franchise QB next year.

Yeah, i said it. Maybe it's because I drank too much of a gift bottle of rum (Presser's British Navy Rum). but I believe it. Before you go nuts thinking of weaknesses and voicing years of steeler fan PTSD due to playoff drought, take a breath and remember. Not every Super Bowl winner was a great team, they just had everything come together at the right time. The Steelers SB win vs the crybaby Seahawks is proof of that. So are both Raven SB wins.

Remember the old joke. Two guys come across a bear in the woods. One guy says "we should run". The other guy says "We'll never outrun that bear. The first guy says "I don't need to outrun the bear, I just need to outrun you!

That's how you win the Super Bowl. You don't have to be some flawless team. You just have to find a way to win each week in the playoffs.

What's the main way to do that? It helps to be awesome. But more often than not it's more about not being terrible at any one thing. In other words, being versatile.

The Ravens are usually very good on defense and run offense. They fail in the playoffs because at some point they get in a game that goes off their script and Lamar needs to make plays from the pocket, and he's hit or miss at that.

Putting injuries aside, here's how i see the 2025 Steelers

I think the OL will be very good. That's the biggest variable. If this OL is top 10 then the Steelers are absolutely a factor. Frazier had a great rookie year. His floor is above average starter and his ceiling is one of the best in the league. I don't think he'll ever be Dermonti Dawson good, but he can absolutely be Pouncey or Hartings good. McCormick likewise looks like a solid starter. Fautanu looked great last preseason and I expect him to upgrade RT.

Broderick Jones is the question. He has the talent. His problem seems that he's too nice. Somebody needs to tell him it's OK to be a villain between the whistles. Remember the late great Hulk Hogan as Thunderlips in Rocky 3. Before and after the bout, he's super nice. But when that bell rings, he tries to kill Rocky.

Najee is a good RB but he sucks at zone runs. Tomlin's main weakness is pride. He never wants to admit he's wrong, so he was going to feed Najee the ball to prove he was right rather than to give it to the obviously better fit, Warren. Now they have Warren and Kaleb Johnson who are both perfect fits for what Arthur Smith wants to do.

I believe the Steelers will have a very good run game. Better blocking, better backs, and a more consistent passing game to open it up. That's the key to Smith offense, or any offense really. Look at Detroit, they have a reliable run game which opens things up for mediocre Jared Goof to make plays.

That's the base, a strong run game, that may take a month or so to get going but by the end of the year could be brutal. Throwback to Bettis and Barry Foster where we're running the ball and you wussies won't do **** to stop us.

With run threat established, we get to see the real Arthur Smith offense which is all about play action. Metcalf is a huge upgrade to Pickens who only played hard when he felt like it. When you have a run threat and a real WR1, it makes it easier for the rest. There's clamor for a new WR2. Maybe they'll still get one, but they're OK so long at DK stays healthy.

Look at the Eagles. They have AJ Brown and Devonte Smith. If Brown gets hurt, they're in trouble. Smith is good as a #2, but can he carry the load? He didn'tt even carry the load at Bama where he played with Ruggs, Jeudy, Waddle, and Jameson Williams. The point is that Calvin Austin or Roman Wilson pair with a strong run game and DK Metclaf can be very effective as WR2, especially with Feiermuth and Jonuu SMith in the mix.

Then there's Aaron Rodgers. He showed last year he still had the arm talent. The Jets just suck. They had no run game and Garrett Wilson and Rodgers never really clicked.

I don't think the steelers offense will be top 5 but it should be good. Rodgers, coupled with a good run game plus weapons like Metcalf, Freiermuith, Smith, Austin, Roman Wilson and Robert Woods should deliver a versatile offense that can win multiple ways. They can win when the **** hits the fan.

Defense should be top 10 at the worst, with the potential of being best in the league. Watt and Highsmith are excellent edge rushers with Herbis and Sawyer providing depth. If Harmon is a stud then the DL is hugely upgraded. They can give Cam Heyward some rest and have more rotation.

Ramsey is an ugrade to Minkah. Minkah is a good player but Ramsey is much more versatile. Slay is a really good outside man CB. JPJ could have a breakout year and Ramsey can be that chess piece they've missed since Piolamalu.

Bottom line
Excellent Defense
Good offense with a chance to be near top 10 and a QB that limits turnovers.

Here's the other main reason the Steelers are a contender.

There is no great team in the NFL. There's no Montana 49ers or Aikman Emmitt Cowboys, or Cheater Brady Patroits.

The steelers don't need to outrun the bear, they just need to outlast a few otyher flawed NFL teams.

Let the PTSD whie fest commence

Coconut water goes great with Rum.
I like the optimism and I agree, if the key players can avoid injury, the team has the talent to come together by the end of the season and make a run if they get hot at the right time going into the playoffs. While I have my doubts on the coaching and development side, I think the team has the talent to be good and much better than expected by many.

I've been a fan of the Rodgers signing from the beginning. I know he has a lot of haters here, but he is the cornerstone of this team. If the OL can give him the time, his presence will improve the run game, which will open up the passing game. Which in turn will keep the offense on the field longer and the defense not injured and burnt out by the end of the season. It's not saying a lot, but even at his age, he's better than any QB the team has had behind center for years (including the last couple of years Ben played).

I expect the team to have a much better offense this year with the talent. If a WR 2 doesn't step up, and it looks like that's the missing piece as the season progresses, if the TEs are not enough, they can always go all in on a trade for a legit WR2 (potential WR1), or a top safety before the trade deadline.

I don't know why so many long-term fans want to just gripe on here about the end of the world at this point in the off-season about nothing but doom and gloom. If we can't be optimistic for the team in July, we might as well be Browns, Jets, or Cowboy fans.

I'm feeling the positive vibes a lot more so this summer than the past few years. If Tomlin can keep from being his own worst enemy, and the key guys stay on the field all year, I think a lot of the pessimists on here will be presently surprised by years end.
