I don't understand the sprint to the podium, either. I understand even less why it really bothers someone. I just can't imagine the team hasn't already seen every trade offer that is likely to be offered well before their time on the clock. That is the way I see it and the reason it doesn't bother me.
For last night, if Denver had called with an offer, let's say it was their 1st, 4th and 5th (anything worse than their 1st and 3rd), the Steelers said no. If they wait on their pick, maybe Denver calls back and says "hey, how about our 1st and 3rd?". We don't know what Denver offered and the fact that they offered Seattle a 1st and 3rd doesn't mean anything other than making it a possibility that is what they offered the Steelers, too. Just a possibility, not fact, for those who care.
Maybe, by the time the Steelers turn on the clock comes up, Denver's trade with Seattle has been made and everyone knows?
In general, I give the FO of a successful franchise the benefit of the doubt on players. The players can prove them wrong later.
