The Sprint To The Podium Conundrum

I don't understand the sprint to the podium, either. I understand even less why it really bothers someone. I just can't imagine the team hasn't already seen every trade offer that is likely to be offered well before their time on the clock. That is the way I see it and the reason it doesn't bother me.

For last night, if Denver had called with an offer, let's say it was their 1st, 4th and 5th (anything worse than their 1st and 3rd), the Steelers said no. If they wait on their pick, maybe Denver calls back and says "hey, how about our 1st and 3rd?". We don't know what Denver offered and the fact that they offered Seattle a 1st and 3rd doesn't mean anything other than making it a possibility that is what they offered the Steelers, too. Just a possibility, not fact, for those who care.

Maybe, by the time the Steelers turn on the clock comes up, Denver's trade with Seattle has been made and everyone knows?

In general, I give the FO of a successful franchise the benefit of the doubt on players. The players can prove them wrong later.

I started this thread for several reasons

1) To let everybody know that the sprint to the podium is NOT a Tomlin thing, it is a Steeler thing and is backed up by Historical data.

2) I am fine with the Burns pick and I would have rejected the Denver deal too. (I beleive that it has been reported that we did). It was essentially a 4th rd pick

3) There is value in the ticking clock. That is simply undeniable. You have nothing to lose and the possibility of much to gain.

4) This thread should not be about what ARM Chair GM's would do, what scenario may play out or would not play out . It has EVERYTHING to do with timing and common sense.

3) There is value in the ticking clock. That is simply undeniable. You have nothing to lose and the possibility of much to gain.

As you say, it is undeniable. For some years, the value may be minimal, excellent player drops in your lap and there is no way you want to run even the remotest risk of losing him. I'd expect the value to be worth the wait more often than not.

Dallas was supposedly looking to trade up for Lynch. I wonder what they were offering. Assuming their 2nd and 3rd and and maybe we kick them back our 4th or something.

The sprint to the podium was ridiculous

Hey! look at us! We know more than everybody! Even though our rivals just punked us in the *** by stealing our pick, let's pretend we meant to take this other guy!

Look, a shiny penny!

You are a Trump guy, right? So in politics you are sick and tired of the bullshit, just for show stuff. I concur. Why the **** do you want the Steelers to do it?

Didn't the Vikings run out of time in back to back seasons a few years ago? I'm sure Tombert just want to be safe and not run out of time. You know...in case they take a wrong turn heading to the podium. Wind up at the bathroom. They then have the extra time to find their way back to the podium and get the pick in on time. You never ever can be to careful.....can you?

It's just so ******* stupid. Who the hell cares how quick or slow they go to the podium? And if they did "explore all options," waited, traded down and got an extra third or something, so what. Big ******' deal, another third. I hate this for appearance ****. Just do what you want to do. The Steelers do, and I admire that. Screw the show.

give it a while, and they may tell us....or continue with the conspiracy theories....meh, speculation is fun.

Colbert confirmed they did turn down a better offer than the Broncos gave Seattle. Cowboys offered us a future 1st to move back 9 spots which was obviously turned down. Colbert also said they had multiple offers so that was just one of them. So my "conspiracy theory" wasn't far fetched after all...hmmm
