Hmm what about Charles Rogers, Roy Williams and Mike Williams? Please don't tell me you forgot about them. 4 first round receivers out of 5 years and only one panned out.

I think we've wanted to draft CB's in the first round. Problem has been our targets have been taken before our pick (Bears take Kyle Fuller one spot ahead of us in 2014, Texans and Chiefs take Kevin Johnson and Marcus Peters, respectively, ahead of us in 2015.) I don't think we have the luxury of trading up in the draft in order to get one of the top CB's. So wherever we wind up picking, we'll have to hope one falls to us there.
Where do you come up with this stuff? Seriously???
William Gay is the epitome of the Steelers - how do you know he won't take a hometown discount and stay put?
Cockrell, with more times with the one's is probably the best option at #2 because of his size and speed. Reminds me of a young Ike, but he can catch.
Both Golson and Grant are unproven but both have a nice upside.
Boykin, IMO is the missing link and should be a keeper.
The problem is at safety and OLB still.
We've said it for years - no pressure equals no turnovers.
Blake is the Ds weakest link and has been victimized all year, with his shotty coverage and ****** tackling.
So CB is very much needed...... nobody has seized that outside spot and made it a strength
unrealistic to bank on the same options making it better next year....
Golson will he be injury prone?
Grant will he show enough?
I am ok with Boykin/Cockrell/Gay but that's two slot corners so one outside corner is still needed...
I agree DB is a need. But I think safety is the biggest. Will Allen is too old and Sharmarko just isn't ready to be that guy.
A playmaker at SS would be a big bonus. Hopefully Mitchell can stay on the field next year.
And oh, trading Pouncey is a ridiculous idea. Wallace has been not so good of late...
For what it's worth, Boykin did say he would like to stay with the team after this season. That being said.. I doubt he would say he didn't want to, being that he was trying to get on field.
I would welcome him back though.

I will agree because I have been touting SS since preseason.....
Thing is they need a CB SS and a effective pass rusher.
I don't think you can get all that in the draft.
For the Steelers to get past bad coaching, they better improve that D talent level.
I think you have to be active in free agency, otherwise we are having the same discussion next year at this time.
Money will be available. Timmons will be restructured freeing up at least 4-5 mil. Cortez will be let go for sure.
Plus the cap will be rising as well.

where is boykin going to play? coaches have outright said he is a slot CB. isn't Golson slated for the slot? i'm guessing they won't line up a 5'8" CB on the outside.
gay is going nowhere. he is a STEELER and a pretty good one at that. cockrell will be back as well.
that means we really only need one CB. of course, it needs to be a #1 guy. either the 1st or 2nd round.
unfortunately, we need a stud OLB too. with the way the Steelers draft, OLB will come in rd 1.
i would love to see us go after Casey Heyward, Trumaine Johnson or Janoris Jenkins. this team is not far off. the defense needs a couple good pieces.
the FO needs to buck the trend of strictly signing only their FA's and spend some cash on above-average players. if it's me, i would do this.

I wish we could get Hargreaves in the draft.. unfortunately he'll be long gone. Next option might be Desmond King from Iowa. Big and physical with INT skills.. speed is the only question there.
Jeremy Cash might be a guy to look at in the 2nd from Duke. He would be a nice addition at safety. Can play in the box and play the pass.
Had 10 tackles for loss and over 100 total tackles with four INTs.

Gay is a free agent in a down year for free agent corners. He'll get paid. One of the 31 teams will make him an offer he can't financially refuse.
Blake is a free agent. I hope he ends up on the Browns.
Boykin is a free agent. My hunch is he has issues with Tomlin and the coaching staff. We spent a 5th round pick and hardly played him. I hope he stays.
Cortez Allen will be cut, and was a terrible free agency move.
Cockrell is a good #3, or below average starting #2. I like the guy. He's productive. Great pick up.

Boykin was a good slot guy. But Tomlin in his wisdom hardly played him. Boykin might play elsewhere next year and if that happens its a complete waste of a 5th round pick.
I agree with you! OLB is a problem, and it starts with Uncle Jarvis. Harrison will likely retire next season. Dupree is a project. Dupree is big and fast but lacks moves and perhaps football IQ.
The saftey posiotn is a mess, but I do think Golson is our best cover guy. Tomlin should start him...but he sticks with a mediocre vet in Will Allen.

I would offer my first this year and next year to move up to take either the corner from Florida or Florida St.. that type of talent plus Golson would be a heck of a upgrade. Sitting back and waiting has cost us long enough. Identify someone and go get them. Pass rush is still a huge issue but you can't go back to OLB again..Dupree over the off-season has to turn the corner..Jones is Haggans that's his ceiling nothing wrong with that if you have a Porter(Dupree) on the other side.
Actually it was surprisingly after rotting on the bench. I believe it was before the 2nd Bengals game, if not that game then it was somewhere around that game.

My pick would be a DT like one of the 2 from Bama. Someone who can shut down the inside run game, push the pocket up the middle, and free up the LB's. Watch MS/Bama to see what they do against a pro style offense.

F THAT! Never trade next years #1! You never know what might happen regardless of how well you address personnel issues. The Steelers could go 5-11 and end up missing out on an even better prospect in 2017.
Well considering we haven't been that low in record on a long time I doubt it happens. Take a shot move up for a player you consider a slam dunk instant day one starter. If you are right how valuable is that next year's 1st. We've Sat back and waited long enough and it hasn't produced one impact player.

We sat way back and drafted AB in the 6th round. The draft isn't a perfect science, trading up assures nothing more than the loss of next year's #1.

Wonder if we could trade timmons for something. Timmons is a solid player, but i think he is overrated and over paid. If we could free up some cap space and get a 2nd - 3rd round pick i would consider it.

Sutton had a mixed game against Alabama as well. He also has returned punts with an average of 18.9 yards per return with two touchdowns.
8/17/15: Sutton was excellent for the Volunteers in 2014. He is a very physical defender who plays with a chip on his shoulder. As a sophomore, Sutton recorded 37 tackles with three interceptions, 13 passes broken up and four tackles for a loss.
Sutton was one of many superb freshman cornerbacks in college football in 2013. He quietly played really well for Tennessee. He recorded 39 tackles, seven passes broken up and two interceptions. Sutton has good size and speed for the position.

Of those CBs, Boykin will not be back. He was a 1 yr rental due to Gholson being out. He wants to play & has zero motivation to stay in Pittsburgh. Gay will be back. No team will be clamoring for a 30+ year old CB that hasn't been in their system before. Like it or not, Blake will be in camp at the very least. The draft may tell a different story from that point on.
