Gay is a free agent in a down year for free agent corners. He'll get paid. One of the 31 teams will make him an offer he can't financially refuse.

Blake is a free agent. I hope he ends up on the Browns.

Boykin is a free agent. My hunch is he has issues with Tomlin and the coaching staff. We spent a 5th round pick and hardly played him. I hope he stays.

Cortez Allen will be cut, and was a terrible free agency move.

Cockrell is a good #3, or below average starting #2. I like the guy. He's productive. Great pick up.

This leaves an injured and very small Golson, and an unproven Grant.

Any way you slice it, the depth and talent are an issue. If Gay leaves, we are stuck with mostly slot corner types. What then?

At this point in time, I think a CB should be taken in round one, or if not round one, rounds 2 and 3. I would not be opposed to trading Pouncey for a 1st round pick if a team bites, as the pass rush needs lots of help too.

I wouldn't be opposed to taking 3 DBs (2 corners and a safety) with the first 4-5 picks in this draft. With a free agency pick up at pass rusher

We may have to actually go out and spend some FA cash on a good CB if there are any out there, especially if we want to continue to play this 2DLinemen defense and get no pressure defense, we need guys that can cover.

I'd cap it at two DBs in the first three picks. I liked Peters a bit in the draft and would have traded up our 3rd round pick to get him.

But the pass rush in 2016 is going to be a do little Jarvis Jones, and Bud Dupree who has disappeared lately. We must pick an OLB.

I would be fine with this draft

1 ) Best OLB or CB on the Board.
2 ) The position that was not picked in round one between OLB and CB
3 ) Cornerback
4 ) Pass rusher
5 ) Spent on Boykin
6 ) Spent on Scobee.
7 ) BPA.

I think we get a comp pick. We need it!

It's a down year for free agent corners. Sean Smith would be nice. He's tall and can run. Makes some plays too. But because of the scarcity, the group will be overpaid in general. The Steelers typical shy away from big name free agents.

Won't we be hurting for cash next year? How much do we have wasted in the 3 kickers or were they one year deals. For me it's Boz going forward. Then we get the big money hit in AB. There is no way he will play without more money. He will demand, and worth it IMO top WR money. That's going to hurt bad. If we still have MW under contract for another year or so I say we trade him. While I'm not completely sold on MB if we can get a solid draft pick I see it as a win. I just think we are in a hurt for cap room.

I think they will resign Gay.

They need two outside corners.............

That could mean 9 million in cap space or more.

The best news is we found a cheap starting left tackle. Beachum could be worth a 3rd or 4th round comp pick for us in 2017.

Gay left once and didn't like it, I think they'll be able to sign him.
Blake won't be back (I hope)
Boykin has been playing quite a bit recently, I think they try and sign him
The Cortez experiment is over
Cockrell will be around
Golson is an unknown and hopefully has some skills we know he is diminutive
Grant was on the active list yesterday maybe he can be something
I'd like to see them invite Holiman back to camp the dude is a ball hawk. I'd want to be sure that his lack of tackling is not due to the shoulder injury.

Draft a corner and safety in the first three rounds, the other premium pick should be a ROLB, I don't see Jones being around after his rookie contract.

I actually want the secondary to improve

if anything one free agent outside corner is needed

we keep bottom barrel-ling the position

the secondary will continue being ******

Last time Gay left he got cut after a season and came back. I think he will get paid but it will be by us.

The FA guy that fits the Steelers mold is Trumaine Johnson. He starts opposite Jenkins for the Rams. 6'2 208lbs.. He's got 6 INT on the year. He'll get paid big by someone.

sounds good to me,......

How many picks are we going to use on first round LBs. I would not use another first or second on one. We need a high round corner and safety. The pass rush is a concern, but this regime can't seem to hit on one so i would rather find one in free agency.

Because besides a slow developing Dupree they have exactly what at th position worth a damn?

An interesting stat that I read earlier: Patrick Robinson, whom the steelers entertained as a free agent this past offseason, has allowed the least amount of receiving yards (300 to be exact) of all cornerbacks who have played atleast 500+ snaps this season. Antwon Blake, very surprisingly, has given up the most with just a hair shy of 1,000. Just another notch against Tombert.

Don't forget about Golston. I'm not entirely convinced Cortez Allen is gone. If they get depleted at CB by FA, they may keep him for no other reason than depth.

They've refused to force their hand in the 1st round, don't be surprised if they continue to pass on one.

We are to linebackers what the Detroit Lions are to wide receivers.

Megatron - Detroit

Mega -pile of **** -Steelers

I can see the resemblance

yep

Which is partly my point.. We drafted jones, shazier, dupree none of whom have given us a Wow factor.. Shazier and dupree could go either way and you could plug anyone in for jones and get same result.. Do you trust this regime to draft another LB in round one? I sure do not.

I think Cockrell has potential on the outside, especially in the Steelers scheme. That's where the Steelers have played him, and he has more than held his own. He has size, smarts and ball skills. He's only a second year player who still has some upside, IMO.

I just do not get the sense that they like Boykin that much, though he has played well when given the opportunity. I see them letting him walk, resigning Gay and having him compete with Cockrell, Golsen, and likely a first or second round pick for playing time.

I just do not see them making a splash in FA at the position, as they'll likely address the position early in the draft and look for improvement/more contribution from the young guys already in the organization.

Given the zone based scheme that the Steelers utilize, I feel safety is the bigger problem. Mitchell and Allen have virtually no ball or cover skills. Shamarko Thomas has the athleticism they currently lack at the position, but must be a total disaster from a mental standpoint for them not to give him a look with the starters struggling like they are.

The game today we need a cornerback that can cover. Our secondary gets torched to many times with plays of 25-35 yards. Look how many times with 3rd and very long we give it up. Watching the game last night in Phones, the coverage of both teams puts the Steelers to shame. Even if we give up open passes we then allow to many yards because our tackling is terrible.

Yeah our drafts have been below the line too. You have a point.

Might be time to show Colbert the door as well.
