That's How Good Coaching Wins Games

Foles is signed through next year. It's a $4M savings if they move him. If you can get a first rounder and another quality pick or player, you move him. His value will never be higher than it is right now, and teams may want him over Cousins.

I don't think anyone is giving that up for Nick Foles, regardless of the his excellent performance this season. The guy has never really had success outside of Philly. I wouldn't do it. I know the league is starved for good QB's, but there is enough evidence out there that signing the "it guy" fails FAR more often than it succeeds.

Sorry Sarge but there are a LOT of underlings teams that would pay. Even though we know it's a fail possibility there will be those teams that would PAY and pay dearly.

Salute the nation

So going for it on 4th and goal with a trick play was “good coaching?” You only day that because it worked. If they walked away with no points, they likely lose that game.

The decision to go for two points was also potentially costly, when there Patriots went up by one.

Not defending the toss sweep, but just saying that our perception can be skewed. By the outcome.

Like you mentioned, I also didn't agree with the 2 point conversion call that early and with that score and not just because they didn't get it. The only time I can think of I didn't agree with what the Eagles coaches did.

But using a "trick play" to get an easy wide open touchdown on 4th and goal is literally the definition of good coaching. It wasn't smash mouth football that was the result of good execution or a jump ball to a WR who just made a better play. It was a direct result of the coaches coming up with the perfect play to trick the defense into getting an easy touchdown...and also making the call to not settle for a FG in the first place.

Also calling a short crossing route on 4th and 1 was brilliant too...it makes the "pick" play legal and left Ertz wide open for an easy 2-3 yards. Someone needs to tell our coaches (and Ben) you don't need 15 yards on 3rd or 4th and 1.

Foles is who he always was. What he did under Kelly that 1 season was also tremendous. He went to other teams and they did not adjust the O to his game and he looked like crap. He pretty much looked like crap at the end of the regular season...until the Eagles coaching staff went and watched films from the 1 season under Kelly and adjusted the O to his strengths for the playoffs...the results were obvious...It was a great job by the Eagles staff playing to his game .Not to take anything away from Foles he executed the game plans to perfection ....but if you are a team that wants to go all in on Foles you better be ready to adjust your O to his ability not just try and shove your O down his throat and expect him to execute .

It was as much the coaching decisions as it was Nick Foles. They adapted their offense to the RPO system that he was familiar with and he responded to it. I thing Haley would have had a different approach to it if it was our team.....jus sayin'

No guarantee Foles goes to another team and looks that good.

1. You play to win the game

Those infamous words spoken by Herm Edwards couldn’t be more true when you look at the huge 4th down conversions made by the Eagles throughout the game. Philadelphia didn’t play scared, and I certainly appreciated that after watching Pittsburgh be way too tentative throughout the 2017-2018 season at times.

Oh yeah...and

2. I’m glad James Harrison didn’t win another ring

There were many instances where I thought, "Tomlin wouldn't have done that. or Tomlin would have kicked a FG there." To me, Tomlin has a different mindset and they try to outsmart their opponent with what they think they they are going to do, but with something else they should do. I can't see Ben lining up on a 4th and 1 in the SB for a receiving route. Maybe I'm wrong and I wouldn't mind seeing that in LIII to make me a liar.

Agreed. Our biggest "trick play" in the Haley era was an end around. No misdirection. No creativity. Just our players being better than their players. Which is something you can get away with when you have the top 3 players at each skill position at your disposal.

Foles is a backup QB who just won SB MVP...let that sink in. The coaches catered the offense to his skill set throughout the playoffs and he responded with a near perfect QB rating. If that's not good coaching, I don't know what is.

I'm sure Mikey Regular Season was watching the game but without enough self-awareness to see that both of these teams and coaches will beat him 9 times out of 10 (the 1 win coming from the Eagles, we know he can't ever beat the Pats*****).

Tomlin did you listen as Peterson said conservative play gets you 8-8????? Sad with all the talent under Tomlin he is satisfied to get to the play offs, I guess he is like the Pat's fans they love talking the records today from last night, as if any record or stats win the trophy. Just listening to the Eagle players last night about the head coach was so eye opening of the head coach we have. Sad.

I don't think he is satisfied by a large margin, incapable perhaps an argument, but not satisfied.

and he's a second year HC. That's the *** burner. No HOF QB, top WR and RB with highly paid OL and DL at his disposal. PHI doesn't have slouches, for sure, but sucks we were watching them in the SB.

I disagree slash, I think Tomlin knows that a playoff spot or 8-8 will allow you to come back next year and coach, otherwise he would have adjusted and gotten much better in the areas he is lacking in ove the last few years. He seems complacent, maybe it's time for him to find a new team and us to find a fresh face.

probably just not going to happen

hell we cant even get a D coach overhaul

all we can hope for for the immediate future is a few D upgrades

The Eagles were probably the best team in the NFL during the regular season as well. It worked out that they had one of the best backup QBs in the league who played his best football in the playoffs.

They had that one that was basically a bubble screen where Collinsworth went crazy on how well Harrison played it

I remember that one. Collinsworth went on about how Harrison slowed him up to give the DB time to come up to make the play. Meanwhile, Harrison was actually left in the dust and Foles just underthrew the ball or else it would have been a nice gain.
