The Minnesota Vikings canceled their practice Tuesday after quarterback Teddy Bridgewater suffered an apparently serious injury in a non-contact drill.

The Vikings asked reporters to leave the field area and to gather in the media room, where coach Mike Zimmer is expected to address Bridgewater's injury.

Players removed their helmets and gathered around Bridgewater as the third-year quarterback was examined by medical personnel. An ambulance later drove onto the field.

Damn that sucks...

An emotional scene unfolded at Vikings practice on Tuesday when quarterback Teddy Bridgewater went down with a non-contact injury that ended practice after just 30 minutes. According to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, he was grabbing his left knee as teammates prayed around him.

Obviously, the Vikings' season hangs in the balance while they wait for the medical staff to make a diagnosis. Even though Bridgewater only threw 14 touchdowns last year, he paced a run-first offense that helped the Vikings win the division and come within a missed field goal of beating the Seahawks in the playoffs. His 3,231 yards passing earned him a Pro Bowl bid and propelled the 2014 first-round pick into his third season. The preseason gave us glimpses of the best Bridgewater yet.

So it goes during the preseason -- one of the most horrifying times for an NFL coach as he tries to balance the importance of practice and the risk of non-contact injuries. Bridgewater started all 16 games for the Vikings a year ago and 12 his rookie season.

At the moment, the team's current backups are Shaun Hill and Joel Stave.

Around The NFL will have much more on the situation when information becomes available.

In other news...

Mike Zimmer spotted at local Home Depot buying Adrian Peterson-sized amounts of bubble-wrap...

Not a big Shaun Hill fan, thought Stave looked better in the pre-season games.

Sucks.

To be 100% honest this is not a huge blow to the team. Teddy seems like a stand up guy but he has absolutely no arm strength and at his best is a very poor mans Alex Smith. Shaun Hill will likely give them just as much as Teddy would have and to be 100% honest I could see the vikings trading for a Colin Kaperdick who probably could be had for any draft choice at this point or Dirty Sanchez who again could be had for a very low 3rd day pick.

It's a huge blow..

and RG3 just took a single step up in fantasy rankings, from 32 to 31.

Bridgewater has major injury concerns coming out of the draft. He's very thin with legs that look like a new born deer. You just knew he wasn't going to hold up.

I see Teddy as a Chad Pennington type of QB, not quite that good, but you get the picture.

It's a blow to the Vikings, but perhaps not a season-ending blow. Hill, when he had to play on a bad St. Louis team, wasn't that bad. The Vikings have some weapons.

They will look at Cap, Sanchez, or McCown. Sanchez is cheap for a backup qb.

My thoughts exactly. I know they wanted to prop up their 1st round draft pick as "the man" but his arm is such a pop gun, that he will never be all that good, ever. I mean, you can get buy with an arm that isn't a cannon, but if all you have is a pop gun, you simply are too limited regardless of your other skills. I am sorry he seemingly went down for the season, but it's not that crushing of a blow if I am being real.

Sanchez ONCE AGAIN, has proven to be just too much a loser in Denver camp. He is a turnover machine. Cap has more upside.

And a decent D and running game. They could still make the playoffs.

Torn his CAL and several other ligaments. . Vikings are screwed.

My Louisville fans here at work seriously believe Teddy will be in the HOF. Seriously.

Why does everyone love Sanchez. He is terrible. Have to feel bad for the Vikings. The team is still decent, but might be tough to overcome from a morale standpoint

Who does he think he is, Bruce Gradkowski???

I blame the training staff, they are terrible for someone to get hurt in a non contact drill.

I'd fire the field manager. The surface was obviously dangerous to play on and he should have known better.

Zimmer is to blame, he shouldn't have drafted Bambi to be his starting QB.

Tomlin Sucks...

Another example of the modern athlete exceeding connective tissue skeletal limitations. No way that should happen. The average person could perform a drop back no problem. Never happen.
