Talking DB's Is it scheme or talent?

Vader....I don't know. I don't get how you will not put one iota of blame on Dick... . And some how you think I am not blaming Tombert. I guess you believe it is either or......That it is impossible to put any blame on DL. Some could argue you give any DC the talent Dick had and they would succeed. It is when the cupboard is half empty that really judges someone. In this case the cupboard was/is just empty.

For me there is plenty of blame to go around. I refuse to believe that its all a talent issue. I mean how many of our DB's are actually getting better with coaching. It seems to me that if we dont hit a homerun in the draft or free agency, then its more of the same. This has been going on for years. Think about it. The WR's get better, D-Line they get better, O-line yep they get better too, special teams too, hell even the linebackers seem to be getting better. I understand most of those groups have been infused with top of the draft talent, but they ARE getting better.

If they played Foles every week they'd be SB champs.
I hope you, and others remember this when you think that there are backups out there who could step in and run this team. Foles is a starter in this league. So Is Kaepernick, and a dozen guys as bad, or worse than they are. Half the teams in the league wish they had Joe Flacco as their starter, but we're expected to have Steve Young in reserve. People are living in a dream world around here.

Talking about teams in disarray, look at the Rats. Their mighty defense is in shambles without Ngata, and Thuggs. Guess Ozzie, and Harbaugh need to be fired.

I know it was the Rams but the D only gave up 2 damn FG's and made a splash play to seal the game. I'll take it any day! And, looks like Cockrell should be starting. He had the best coverage that I saw today.

Gay and Cockrell to start. Boykin in the slot. Blake as the 4th cb. Cortez Allen to be the water boy. That's how I see it right now.

Stop being a drama poster why don't you.

Top 5...LOL Where are you taking this now? I do know I don't miss miss the cushions on almost every play that was a staple if Dick's. Also I will not miss our DL running into the OL and just putting their hands up.....

You're blind if you don't see the cushions are still there. That's how they gave up 400 yards to a horrible QB in Kappernick. See what the Cards are doing to them today? Keep blaming DL if it lets you sleep better at night but the truth is that Tomlin and Colbert have drafted this defense into the bottom half of the NFL.

Where did I say anything about the backups except that Vick isn't the Vick of yesteryear. If you want to argue with me at least make sure you know WTF you are talking about. Talk about living in a dream world, haven't the Rats won a SB since the Steelers? Did they beat the Steelers last year in Heinz field in the playoffs? So please stop trying to make a 3 game analysis comparable to a 5 year stretch when the Steelers haven't won a single playoff game.

Did I say they are not there? Nope. I said they are not there almost every play. Rams last offensive play of the game we were pressing. Dick has shown he would of played it safe. Again why do you think I am defending Tombert. You will not find ONE post of me defending them. If it makes you sleep better at night go on thinking Dick could not of did a few thing differently to improve this defense.

Also you point out in the NE game Ben got a lot of garbage yards but are quick to give credit to SF for their garbage yards. Go figure.

They weren't there on every play with DL. Nobody in the NFL plays off or tight every play. They still play it often. They still play zone.

Also I said both got garbage yards. However some on here think all of Ben's yards are never in garbage time. I'm sure Butler wasn't trying to give up 400 yards. In the NFL the game is never over until at least the mid way of the 4th Qtr. Teams can score very quickly... just as KC. The 49ers moved the ball but couldn't score and they missed some wide open WRs. The Steelers defense was gashed and could have been gashed even more.

How did the DBs do today? I expect improvement after ******** the bed the first game and waiting until the second half and a big lead to drop a deuce in the second game. To me, it looked like we improved. Baby steps. Foles is s better pure passer than Kaepernic. Looks like the D is starting to play with a little swagger. We're going to need them more than ever now, and the D is the reason why we won today.

When our defense plays ok it seems like our offense ***** the bed. Would of been nice to see our offense just rip this game right open in the beginning.

3rd down defense was fantastic. The Rams were 2-10 on third down

That and some easy passes dropped by the Rams including the easy TD bomb to Kendricks.

And If the TE for the Seahawks doesn't drop passes in the super bowl maybe we lose. Who cares if the other team drops catches its no different then a missed tackle or block it happens. The defense played well and got off the field on third down.

Just thinking back I think only one of those drops happened on third down and that was early in the game.

A related note: Have you seen Cowherd on Fox? He's on their new NFL pre-pregame show, and has a televised talk show on weekdays.

Generally I'm pretty blase about the talking heads. But he really is full of crap.

Why is Antwon Blake ever on the field? Seriously, he SUCKS!

Blake did have the hit on Britt that forced the final incompletion

Holy **** people. Lets poo poo the defense for stopping a terrible offense. Last year those offens s looked all world against our D. If you can't see the improvement, then just keep your head in the sand.

You mean the same Kendricks that dropped an easy pass last week? He's their DHB, we still throw to him, it's a gamble because both get open, you just don't know if they'll make the catch or not. But that is part of the game, hell we can play what if's about the Patriots game, if DHB's foot doesn't touch the chalk, Scobee doesn't miss a FG and that game completely changes.

None of the Rams WR's would be start for us. Their TE is also a non factor, and they can't run the ball well either. To make things worse for the Rams they dropped some easy passes that cost them points. The only time any one of our DB's touched the football was when Foles over threw his man, and Allen was right there for it.

So the DB's yesterday were okay. But I think the opponent was the reason.

You can't possible know that. Jax was horrible last year and the Steelers gave up 9 points while the offense scored 10 points. The defense scored 7 on a pick return. So not all the offenses looked all world even if they were bad. You also had the Jets game where the offense had this gem: Fumble, interception, FG, interception. The final score was 20-13 but the offense had 4 TOs and the defense had no chance. The defense had 4 sacks in that game.

So the idea that people can just magically assume the defense last year wouldn't have won this game is just as bad as people saying that "This offense is unstoppable"... no it's not.

Can't decide if the Pats or your negativity is the most consistent thing in the NFL.

I can decide that your ignorance is the most consistent of the three.

The opponent who put up 34 on the Seahawks?
