Tajh Boyd, new Steelers QB

I liked watching him in college, so if he makes training camp, I'll look at it like that. I'd be surprised if he beats out Jones, which really says a lot.

Eh screw them both. Draft Nick Marshall as reserve CB/S, special teamer and emergency QB. Only carry 2 QB's active and one on practice squad.

ha ha

wrasslin' with Landry over that clipboard

I approve

Another black QB with little potential.

If this insignificant signing somehow prevents Colbert from wasting yet another mid-draft pick on his laundry list of wasted QB selections, I'm all for it.

The best thing that this could be is a smoke screen, next

everyone here seems to think its a waste as a QB pick up and that even Landry may beat him out. Well then it might make sense that they are brining him in under another role.

Pretty sure this move means we're moving Gradkowski to OLB so we needed a 3rd QB with Jones sliding into the backup role. The beauty is that either Jones works as a backup in this scenario

In a quick read of his bio he was a former 6th round pick and was waived and out of the nfl last year. Nobody wanted him so we signed him. Camp body is all, might be handy to teach wide outs to adjust to the ball cause he throws it all over the place supposedly. This guy will make us wish for Kordell if he ever gets into a game.

Yeah he couldn't even stick with the Jets and we know how great they are at qb.

Here are my scouting notes on Taj Boyd:

Tough to grade and very inconsistent. Can throw ball a variety of ways and arm angles. Accuracy can be all over the place. See some GREAT throws and some awful throws. Has some "oh ****" moments when pressured (either takes off to nowhere or makes a dangerous throw). Can run option and incorporate that into playbook. A bit short, but nice stocky build (looks like he can take a hit). Certainly not right for many NFL systems but if a coach works with him I think he could turn out okay. Maybe a simple West Coast system (like McNabb) or a simple option/pistol set up like Newton (in fact, he's an ideal backup for Carolina in my opinion). Not sure he has the mental aspects or talent to change much. Round 5 (#8 QB on my board in 2014).

vs all the white QB's with little potential...right?

Hoyer and Gradkowski, while limited, still accomplished a lot more than the long list of black QBs that have had a cup of coffee with the Steelers.

Ever since the Kordell experiment failed, it seems to me the Steelers have a quota with black QBs, the exception being this past season.

Is this the best player we can pick up? I see all these players going to other teams to meet, only thing in Pittsburgh, Tomlin and Colbert meet for breakfast.

Funny...Why can't it be just a QB? At this point why does the color of skin even matter? Just mention they brought in another bad QB. Period. Haven't we had a bunch of bad QB's over the years? Starters and back ups? As far as the Kordell "experiment".....So because he was a black QB it is an experiment.

Are there even 32 good starters out there? Every team has these type of QB's on their roster. While Gradkowski isn't great. I do feel fortunate that we have him as a back up.

Batch and Leftwich would like a word with you.

That is just odd. We ask some guy if he's been working out and sign him based on passing a physical? Yeah we had a high grade on him, that's why we didn't draft him. Some of the roster moves leave me just shaking my head, there are so many areas that need improvement and QB isn't one of them. Gradkowski has to be one of the best backups to one of the best QBs in the league. How about we go find a safety, an OLB, a backup RB, a TE, a couple CBs, and a DE before we even begin to think about a QB that couldn't pass Geno on the Jets depth chart.

I'd assume he was throwing at the pro day as well. Plus Fitchner told him they weren't looking to add a QB last year, but after seeing that Jones isn't progressing maybe they decided a guy they were high on last year could come in and compete for very little money, it's not like they broke the bank getting this guy.
