I hope we have finally got someone that will pipe up and not take any **** from Tomlin to help put a balanced OFF on the field and someone that has a feel for the game that can make adjustments on the fly

Meh. Can't say I'm that excited but who knows. Hopefully, he'll actually be given the reigns. And, hopefully, Tomlin will stop calling the D. Seems like every time we have "communication" issues on D like we did later this year and in years past, we hear about Tomlin calling the D.

"Piping up" and not taking **** from your superior usually gets you fired.
Hopefully Canada is a good hire. He has a superior offensive mind for the college game, which is the way the NFL is trending.

Well it’ll be a one and done for Canada based on his resume.

The agenda is to find fault in 'anything' Coach Tomlin. I hope Coach Canada excels and that he "pipes up" for Najee Harris at 1.24...

I am not at all shocked by this and it tells me Ben will be back. It is why they brought him in last year to build a relationship with Ben to ensure a smooth transition.
Going into this off- season not real confident. I think the team has some serious positional things to address. And then there is the situation with a defense that went into the tank. Not over confident in the coaches either. I am close to the we need to rebuild mindset.

IMO, we have to rebuild the OL and get a playmaking RB and insurance at OLB. Take your pick but OT, OG, C and RB are all positions of need...

I don't rebuild until Ben decides he's done. He has earned it. Terry should have been given the same treatment.

A lot to address in one off-season. I think big dot will do well. I would also resign Banner to a year contract. I said going into last year the team could do well if Tomlin stayed out of the assistants way. Well the one OC got in the way instead of letting Ben do the up tempo and Tomlin got in the way of the D on the biggest stage. Canada might run a up tempo but that still gives us to hope the HC let's Butler call the D, they fill the holes and manage the cap. Just a lot.

Honestly I’m not sure about Canada but hope nothing but the best and he can prove this guy wrong.

Ben didn't take any real violent shots this year but both OT's were suspect IMO. Getting a better option of the draft is a MUST. I'll leave the choices to our coaching staff and FO - nothing I can do from where I sit/stand...

if somehow jj comes and Haden is back restructured the d will be solid just worry about NT wormley looked like a back up and have no clue on the browns first few rushing drives why he was at nt. need a big nt like solomon in the draft and hopefully tyson 1 more year but get carlos davis to start using buggs more at dt.

Well Banner could help with Chukes giving competition to the RT position. But that still leaves LT and C. A huge cap off-season a huge draft needed. Then you have a plethora of players on D to figure out. They definitely have their work cut out for them.

I agree, and that was a huge reason we used the short quick passing scheme, everyone knew the line was a suspect, thats why they have to hit on their first Olinemen in the draft, whether that's 1st or 2nd round.

The Steelers have become comical in handling adversity. Promising to make “changes” then promoting from within the organization lol. if anyone in there wildest imagination thinks next years offense will be noticeable different from this years you’re as senile as our new president. Ben in shotgu, a Chinese fire drill of presnap movement and then a crossing pattern or bubble screen for 2 yard gain. A buddy and i went back over the film counted all short passes regardless of down and distance it was just shocking. Canada subscribes to the same bullshit notions as tomlin and randy fuknutz do. Just rearranging the deck chairs on titanic. Good luck Canada you’ll need it!

A little nugget from Dale Lolley over at DKPittsburghsports.com

There's also this: Canada called the second half of the Steelers' regular season finale against the Browns, a 24-22 loss that saw them score 16 points in the second half and very nearly pull out the win against a team that needed the victory to get into the postseason.

And that came with Mason Rudolph at quarterback.

So, it's possible that hiring Canada accomplishes more than one thing for the Steelers.
1. It allows Ben, in his last season, to keep working with the offensive verbiage, etc. that he is used to
2. It allows Rudolph, should he be kept after next season to work with an OC that he has shown some ability to play above the line football under. *Not as far as Rudolph being the long-term answer, but rather a season or two bridge QB.
3. It brings in a guy who has experience in, and showed competence in implementing, the concepts that are taking over the league as far as motion, etc. Which a new, young QB will be more comfortable with.

* On a side note, folks are talking about Canada like he's been part of the staff for 10 years. Dude was only hired last year and with limited off season workouts, etc., he's still pretty much new to the organization. Further, when he was hired, I specifically remember a lot of folks on the board applauding the hire since it seemed like he was being brought in to eventually replace Fichtner. Now that that has happened, it seems the tunes are changing.

The issue is 3 playoff wins in 10 years. Hard not to be put out with the Tomlin malaise and Great Recession 2.0 after the 1980s.

After one the most embarrassing collapses in modern steeler history, and there have been many under mike tomlin, they promise to make “changes” then promote from within the organization lol. if anyone in there wildest imagination thinks next years offense will be noticeable different from this years you’re as senile as our new president. Ben in shotgun, a Chinese fire drill of presnap movement and then a crossing pattern or bubble screen for a 2 yard gain. Fuking Canada helped write this stupid book. Agree assuredly Slash, about BigDot and getting Banner back cheap. Canada’s only input was jet sweeps and lots of motion. Problem was, they couldn’t implement more than that because of the limitations of OTAs, training camp and a preseason. There is a better opportunity for Canada to implement his type of formations with the motion concepts. Not just the sweeps alone, but also with his drag routes and decoys.

The narrative of getting Tomlin “out of the way” of coordinators and assistants is so contradictory to those post Tomlin doesn’t do anything or doesn’t know X & Os around the game. Either he not capable of knowing game plans, or he’s to involved in them. That’s the life of Coach/player/owner......there are always difference of opinions. Both sides can have merit at the same time.

Just going off what was reported as far as Tomlin goes. If it would have been Butler calling that playoff game I would be calling for Tomlin to take the reigns. I agree with Canada assessment and liked the report about the second half of the regular season finale. Guy looks to have potential.

I've never understood this desire for up tempo so much. This defense, since the days of Cowher, have depended upon a ball control offense to keep it off the field. When it is on the field, it can then consistently make the explosive plays. This defense cannot play tired. It won't work.
