After going undrafted in 2015, Watson spent his rookie season with the Bengals before spending parts of the 2016 season with the Browns and Broncos. He has nine career carries for 28 yards and one touchdown after rushing for nearly 6,000 yards and 79 touchdowns for Azusa Pacific.
Watson might have taken the most unique route to the NFL. As a child, Watson was left on the doorsteps of his 'parents', Billy and Janice, in a basket by Billy's daughter from another relationship. The future running back was adopted in to the family and his journey began there.
It was later learned that Watson had a learning disability. He struggled to sound or read words.
“I mean, I feel like everything I went through in school has made me the person I am today in football,” he says. “You don’t let adversity define who you are,” Watson said via The Guardian.
“It’s freaking hard when you have people say you’re this or you’re that, or you can’t read or you can’t write, or you can’t jump,” he says. “You go to make up your mind to prove them wrong. That’s my favorite thing. I remember going to high school, they were saying: ‘You can’t go to university you’re going to have to go to junior college, it’s too hard, you’re going to need too much assistance.’ So, I remember when someone said: ‘You can’t play football.’ And I proved I could.”
