Steelers sign Ex Rams ILB/S Mark Barron

I don’t see how this doesn’t effect the Houston possibility. To get him signed, we needed to free up money this year, not spend more. Hope I’m wrong...

Can we cut/trade Burnett and sign Ben to an extension to free up enough $ for Justin Houston?

I think that ship has sailed. Too many other teams with a good amount of cap space for him to sign with. He’s not going to sign for cheap with the high need for OLBs.

the only thing is, most of those teams are not very good. Maybe he wants a ring more than a big contract with a subpar team. One can dream.

Last year there were 4 MLB/ILB types drafted in the first. Every team is looking for that guy that can be on the field all 3 downs. The steelers desperately needed one last year and they got shut out in the draft then missed in free agency. ILB was once again a big weakness.

Barron is not a great player but he's reliable and if they go into the season with him being that dime LB then they are already better than last year.

This still doesn't prevent them from taking ILB high in the draft.

They must have condensed every play that dude ever made into his highlight tape. He looks all pro in that, but the raw stats are just ok.

He’s kinda of a replacement for fort isn’t he??? Fort played on a lot of passing downs seems Barron should be an upgrade there... seems they can pop him into lots spots here in there... add some draft picks and should be good competition at the ilb and safety spots.

I agree except the part about it's done. I'm not saying he's hiding at the W Penn waiting to sign but I haven't heard anything except he visited Pittsburgh.

Has anyone heard anything with credence about Houston
and another team.

Barron is a solid pick up for the middle of the field but still doesn't eliminate ILB as our No. 1 need in the draft. What this might do is allow us to not feel we have to move up to get White or Bush, although, I still would as both should still be better than Barron and Vinnie in the long term. Vinnie has another decent couple years, at most before his lack of speed becomes too much of a detriment. This basically eliminates us having to draft 2 ILB's, which I did in many of my mock drafts.

I see a big question mark on this guy. His rep is of a big hitter, former no.1 draft pick ..on the decline.

Overall grades by season:
2012: 55.3
2013: 60.1
2014: 56.8
2015: 67.0
2016: 65.0
2017: 61.8
2018: 54.0

In the words of a dedicated fan....maybe he wasn't used properly. OR he had a sports hernia last year ?

But there is no doubt he is capable of playing heads up football...I guess.we shall see.

That's why he is just a stop gap and not a reason for us to not still draft an ILB with our No. 1 pick. Barron is a hybrid player and was injured part of last year. We need a true 3 down ILB and that is still, BY FAR, our No. 1 need and I still say we try to get Bush and even White, if he falls out of the top 10.

As long as Houston doesn’t go to Baltimore, it’s fine, but I have a bad feeling that’s where he’ll end up...

I live near Balt. local radio guys where talking this up yesterday like is is a forgone conclusion that he signs with the Ravens

I think he takes the role Burnett's was in last year and complained about. I think they got him so they can move Burnett's back into his traditional safety role. Guessing
That makes sense, if we get a top S in the draft Burnett can be cut but if we don't there's roster depth behind Davis and Edmunds

Barron is a hybrid player and his natural position was S. He is taking Burnett's spot when he is released.

Then again, Barron did start to excel at ILB and would already be a better 3 down option than anyone on our team. But still, ILB in the 1st round for White or Bush is still where they need to go.

No way is Metcalf there at 20. I wouldn’t take a WR in the 1st anyhow. Still go corner or LB in the first.

if LB bush/White CB Baker

extend ben cut burnett and extend Dupree to lower his cap number ask Villanueva and tuitt cam to take pay cuts and that should be enough o get Houston I think he is using the colts and Baltimore to drive his price up.

Barron is a thumper & pretty damn sure tackler. We are weak in both areas, we need guys like this....

This. There has been next to no news on a guy who’s supposedly a highly sought after commodity. I don’t know whether that’s a good/bad thing as it pertains to us, but it does at least mean we’re still in consideration, and at the onset at least, falls in line with what’s being reported (ie keeping things under wraps til Bens extension, Burnett release, etc).
