Steelers sign Ex Rams ILB/S Mark Barron

As if plucking a DB off a team with the worst pass defense in the NFL wasn't enough, Tombert has to one up that and sign a player off a team with one of the worst run defenses in the NFL. Is that a SB I smell?

Still ballin' for no reason. Get a hobby...

Two article that state how bad the Rams run defense was, how bad he is etc. Then you ask "are we done yet" .. I'm taking that you mean you think all their moves suck and you want them to stop making bad moves.

I only ever see your posts saying how everyone sucks etc. So no idea you weren't trying to be negative

Spike wasn't being negative, IMO...

Never stop trying to get bush [/URL]

You youngin's need to keep in mind the old adage....beware the pitfalls

Barron plays the run like a quick undersized LB and he plays pass coverage like a SS... He will fit well into the Steelers system as an ILB. If they do not play him there, this is a stupid signing and I have always like his aggressive style of play with the Rams at LB.

Maybe, just maybe with some of the guys they've been drafting this will change our defensive scheme and give us more mobile players on the back end to shut down the passing game.

Where this hurts is against the run with a smallish LB.

I can pretty much guarantee we're going LB early in this draft, R1 makes a lot of sense.

Odds that we're calling him "Jarvis (enter last name here)" before the season is over?

there's only 3 ILBs to target (White, Bush and Wilson).
Wilson must be just average since he doesn't get a lot of talk (yes, I know he played for Bama and could be a product of that environment as well)

I'm not against them picking Bush, but I think the signing of Barron pretty much negates that possibility
Barron is 3 inches taller and 10lbs lighter. If he is a tweener, little light for the big boy runs, I dont know how you can take a guy shorter with a few more pounds. You are in essence taking the same player you have on the roster. I think they are going receiver. They filled Corner, and cover linebacker. On paper they are better than they were last year. With all respect to Moncrief they are down probably 600 yards and 7 TD at wr. Maybe more once the coverage rolls to JuJu. I think they realize the window and try to get a home run at wr.

WR for me is round 1 or 2 of high importance right there with you for the most part.

Thing is with Bush he is still needed as well as is CB. I think Bush is a faster version of MB and might be a better playmaker as well. I can't pigeon hole him into being the same player even if they do have some similarities.

Other thing is with Bostic and Burnett there is two spots that needed IMO upgrading as they also lost Foot in the process.

So they filled one spot, it can be argued another spot needs filled. Preferably with a hybrid player. Bush fills that line of thinking.

I think rounds one to three we will see some form of WR/ILB/S. And for the 4th option either a TE/OLB or a RB. I am thinking OLB if Chase is available.....

ILB/S can be the hybrid /1 player as mentioned above.

Also read Wilson had some interviews that wasn't viewed as favorable. Something also to add into the mix.

We are in need of 2 ILB's. One to play opposite VW and one to replace VW. VW is slow and can't cover. He is a 2 down ILB. Plus, he is getting older and slower. My guess is he has this year and maybe one more. We need someone to replace him or push him out of his starting spot. VW is good against the run and rushing the passer but, again, he is getting older and slower. ILB in round 1 is still the top priority. There are no sure bets at WR this year where we are picking or even in the top 10.

Vince Williams just got his contract restructured, the FO is not looking to replace him and if it were the case Bostic would do just fine in that role, he already is on the team on a cheap contract

Williams isn't going anywhere but his play is receding. He is like a square peg in this ROUNDED defense of CMVLT. Bince's play is out of date in the new NFL.

Salute the nation

I agree with a lot of what you say. But you are drafting for now or you are drafting for tomorrow. If they extend Ben it tells me they are squarely playing for now. In my mind, they are better on paper then they were last year on defense. They have to fill in some depth, but they have a legit starter at every position. In order to be as good on offense they need an impact Wr.. No way you are replacing ABs production, but Juju, Moncrief, hopefully a maturing Washington, and a big splash rookie. Perhaps you are good enough on offense. Still need a legit backup tight end. I'm thinking wr. Round one, best Corner or Linebacker Round two. , best defender round 3a, best TE round 3b

I still don't think they have an every down ILB, Vince and Bostic are horrible vs the pass, and Barron I'm not sure about vs the run, I think that's what they are looking for in White or Bush. IMO, they absolutely need one of them, as much as Tomlin loves that ****** 2 DL scheme on passing downs having an ILB that can run to go along with Barron would be huge. Now if Tomlin would get it through his damn head that 2 DL scheme sucks because it gets zero push into the QB's face, and would go with 3 DL, and just one ILB(Barron) they may be able to go WR in 1.

I still feel that a 2nd TE would open much more the playbook than WR and give insurance in case of McDonald getting injured. If white or bush are gone and Faint or Hock are there it would vastly improve the Offense more than a rookie WR.

ILB/TE round 1
ILB/OLB/ WR round 2
OLB/WR/S/TE round 3a, 3b

This.

Sask as far as drafting for the future and now, I believe they do both. Trying to get ready player with the future in mind.

Also I think it goes back to BPA at WR,ILB,CB,TE S

If things are equal it is WR VS ILB in 1 IMO

If it isn't equal and one stands forefront above the rest, they will go with that position.at positions of need. As they obviously aren't drafting a QB in 1.

So as we all think a WR or ILBer you never know...

One could also argue that Bush would be number 1 on their board at 20, and they wouldn't consider a WR equal value.

All speculative, as so far they are keeping their high end wants close to the vest.

So far...

Don't you guys see the pool for WRs deeper than other positions? We can grab talent in later rounds, unlike ILB/TE/CB

Maybe, but....If both Devins are gone (I believe they BOTH will be gone by 20) I think we go WR or TE in round 1....If we go ILB on anyone other than the Devins in Rd 1 it is definitely a reach again

And he only has 2 years left on that contract. If he is renewed, it will probably be as a back up.

A good TE would have more of an impact in 2019 than a WR. Jesse James played 50% of the offensive snaps last year, so it wouldn't be hard
for a rookie to take over those snaps. Moncreif has a lot of experience, so a rookie WR will take awhile before taking snaps from him.

Also with Ravens losing 3 linebackers to free agency, our division opponents are not stellar at linebacker. Matching McDonald with Fant or Hock would
cause a lot of damage within the division. I'd still take one of the Devons at 20, but if gone, I'd go Iowa TE. One of the 4 is very likely to be there.

I've been trying to come to terms with both of the Devins gone by #20. If Bush is still there at 15, I think I package my #20 and a 3rd,maybe a later pick, to move up.

Wilson may be a reach at 20, but I wouldn't mind him in the 2nd.
