Listen, I know we all come here to talk football, and I get that in the off season it's a nice thing that we have this site. The problem is the tunnel vision that happens, and I think some are more prone to it than others, I swear they act like not one person who has not done everything in college has ever come to the nfl to expand a skillset. It happens all the time, an nfl team will take a guy who was a pretty good qb, and turn him into a wr. The two things you need to return punts are speed and hands. The extra thing you need is on field awareness, that's if you want someone who isn't fair catching a bunch just to be safe (something recently our buddy AB has taken to doing, and I can't say as I mind, since he rarely muffs them).
All good points. But ignoring a player's many red flags and assuming anyone can learn any NFL skill is awful risky. Especially when those red flags - fumbling, durability, punt experience - are all of paramount importance to the art of returning punts.
The list of blazing-fast collegians who hit the NFL and fail to ever dress for a game, let alone become a regular kick returner, is amazingly long. And some of those guys had actual experience returning punts, and didn't have big issues with fumbles and injuries. Archer may buck all of those trends, but from an outsider's perspective (someone who's not on the scouting payroll and has never met the kid), I don't love the chances. If that helps to sum up my stance.
At any rate, I too hope he does well
Me too, my hatred of the Steelers notwithstanding.
but if he does, that's great, but the question is, will people ever truly learn that perhaps investing 2700 posts in largely ripping a guy makes a hell of a lot of crow to eat, and of course, every one of those ripping him will only feel they need to say "oh sorry, I was wrong" and then proceed right along to the next guy, and start it all up again next April, or May, or when the **** ever they hold the draft this coming year.

Some (all?) of us couldn't give less of a **** about "crow," your reaction to it, or all of the Google Docs in the world. Not all of us are here to give/receive Hot Takes.
Though I do wonder what would happen to this board if Archer were to flame out and become nothing. Discussing him and the posters who doubted him is just about all that's keeping this board alive.
