Steelers select Dri Archer in Round 3

Going to be interesting going forward with guys coming back to see if he gets a hat. I would put him back on kickoffs. Blount had nowhere to run either. Blocking sucks. I think the kid is pressing he knows he was brought here to make splash plays and hasn't made any. Long way to go. Lots of season left.

I don't love the "trot out from 8 yards deep" shtick, but KO returns are a league-wide clusterfuck (and pointless) anyway, so I couldn't care less who is returning KOs.

I'd like Antonio removed from punts ASAP. And I was told all offseason by the coaching staff that Archer can return punts with the best of 'em, so I'd like them to put their money where their mouth is and try him there. Though I don't have much hope for him running with the job, I want someone, anyone to take Antonio out of there.

On offense, I don't think he needs to be involved. Maybe 2-3 speculative snaps a game. Like tape said not long ago, I can't think of a play to give him that I wouldn't rather run for Bell or Antonio or Bryant or even Wheaton. I'd rather just hope we can squeeze a return or a screen or two out of the guy and get something out of him.

Ironically to me he has looked best to me when they just handed him the ball. Nothing cute or complex just simple handoffs.

Are you an Archer fanboy, too? The guy sucks and adds nothing to this football team. OOOOOOH - look how fast he is! WTF does that matter when you can knock him off his feet with your pinky? Completely useless.

I was a backer of Archer but he hasn't looked good at all. He ran one straight out of bounds on one kickoff .

I know this sounds crazy, but maybe we should just wait and see. 'Cause, you know, two weeks ago we needed to trade Ben and Mike Adams was ******* horrendous...

To me the blocking on kickoff returns looks to be terrible, but maybe Dri is not reading things properly. We might get a better read when it gets cold and more kicks are returnable.

Yea, and the "he's too fast too catch" nut huggers are fine with saying how great he is after 2 plays in pre-season. I guarantfuckingtee you that if he breaks one or had broken on you nuthuggers wouldn't be wanting to wait until the end of his 2nd year. Of course now you do.

You can suck my dick if you want to start calling me names, *******! I'm not nuthugging anyone. Just stating the obvious. The kid is a rookie and was injured. He is way behind the 8 ball to start as a rookie and even further behind due to the injury. Any other 3rd rounder we would have selected probably wouldn't see the field. You are already writing him off as a bust half way through his rookie season. That is as lame as it comes. Give the kid a couple years like any other draft pick would get and then make a determination if he is a bust or not. You absolutely can't say that right now and I say that about any draft pick other than our No. 1 pick. The No. 1 pick should be able to start year one but we don't usually do that either.

HAHA did I hurt you wittle feelings? You came on here all but hurt because of the "Archer haters". I just pointed out how hypocritical you guys really are. When he is drafted and runs great in shorts then it's fine to talk about how great he is going to be. When he has 2 good plays in pre-season all you nuthuggers come out and spout more ****. But when he gets hurt, plays badly and is benched in favor of a 250 lb. RB NOW It's time to wait and see how he does. Well **** that. Almost everything I and others said about him is true. He doesn't have a true position, he is small and can't break tackles, he is oft injured, wasn't a WR in college and he has almost no catch radius.

For the record, I've never said he was a bust. But the nuttnuggers didn't wait until year 3 to say how great he was going to be. So why the **** should I wait to say he is exactly what I thought he'd be?

LOL - he's been injured to some degree for about two calendar years now. Dri Archer missing time and practice to an injury is absolutely nothing new.

Our 4th is lighting **** on fire. And he was injured for much more of his rookie year than Archer was.

I don't see anyone saying he IS a bust. Certainly not the dude you're accusing of it.

I can agree with this statement 100%. The pass plays they are running for him are garbage.

I would feel better with him going out as a receiver and dragging across the middle all of 3-5 yards deep and being a dump off outlet for Ben. Maybe AB and company clear out the DB's and that gives Archer some space to work with and a 5 yard dump pass turns into a big gain. All I know is this bubble screen crap isn't working.

Didn't hurt my feelings but when someone is being an ***, I'll call them out. It's beyond funny all of the hate for Dri and the kid is a rookie. I hope he comes out next year and looks great just so I can laugh at the haters. I'm not a Dri super fan in any way. I just think he should be given a chance like any other of our draft picks.

Call me out? BRAHAHAHA When I see someone being a ******* hypocrite I call them out. I don't hate anyone and I bet 99% of the guys on here don't hate him. They just get pissed off because when they pointed out the flaws in his game all we heard was "He's fast, nobody can cover him, you're morons if you can't see how good he is going to be ETC...".

It isn't about giving him a chance since nobody on here has anything to do with him or the team. He is exactly what I said he was months ago. Doesn't mean he won't do better (hell he can't do much worse). He wasn't worth the pick when the Steelers have a ton of other needs. He would have been a decent pick IF the Steelers were coming off a good year and just needed a few pieces. But the Steelers have almost no depth anywhere but we've got a 4.2 guy that looks great in shorts and has NO chance of starting because he is small and has NO real position on the team.

He's a rookie Vader. The kid needs to stop thinking so much and just play. Quit acting like Scott Farkus you little toadie.

That's the ready-made excuse for any young player who looks like hot garbage. Fact is, he's contributed nothing so far despite plenty of opportunity, and he has a profile that succeeds 0% of the time.

If you have anything, anything at all to present on a "football discussion" level, let's hear it.

If you don't, and you wanna hide that with memes and GIFs, then proceed, I guess.

Bottom line, OPPORTUNITY = Nothing. Hate the Archer, Hate the coaches, Hate the draft people, Why beat each other up. If Archer develops over time, so be it and I personally root for it. He is a STEELER and I give him that respect. Currently he is not above the line. Weather it be from injury / rookienism / just plain bad, what ever, he is not getting it done. Bench / lose the hat / coach him up are all viable options. Continue as is would be a waste of opportunity.

Salute the nation

Ease up there cocksmoker. I seem to recall a BUNCH of us "nut huggers" saying "lets wait till he's played a few games to see if he can do it or not". TO THIS POINT, I'd say I was wrong about his ability, however, up till about two weeks ago, everyone ELSE was wrong about wonder boy Bryant too, looks like he indeed might turn out to be special, so I'm GLAD to be wrong thinking he'd be a class a **** up. I HOPE YOU are wrong about Archer, but I'll admit it if I am, I just won't be happy about it.

See the difference there? I'm HAPPY I was wrong about Bryant, and HOPE to keep being wrong. The guy looks like the real deal so far, which Archer does not, however, I will take ZERO joy in being RIGHT if Bryant becomes a ****** player, because I will always look at the highlight reels and HOPE that player is the guy we got. (I hoped Bryant was too, but his preseason SUCKED). Goes to show things can change, and still might for Archer. So far, yep, I was WRONG with Archer, I thought he'd be faster, but so far he doesn't LOOK as fast as he did in pre-season, is that because he's thinking too much, pressing too hard, or is he just not as fast? I don't know, hopefully we find out.

History will tell us whether Archer is a worthwhile investment or not.

The investment part is done. Some are on record as agreeing. Others not so much.

The only thing we can really debate now is:

1.) Are the number of opportunities correct or not.

2.) Is the coaching staff using him correctly.

After the season, we can debate whether he deserves to be on next year's team, whether his "position" needs upgrading and how to go about doing those things (or not doing anything at all).

I think we've tried to "force" Archer into the game plan at times and I would prefer the coaches use him as a normal running back in some 3rd down packages or maybe even an entire series or two (consecutive). My opinion has always been the playbook is too small with him in the game (at present) and defenses can adjust pretty easily. I am also of the opinion Bryant should be active on game days over Archer (if it comes down to a choice) as I think red zone production is more important in today's NFL than the so-called "field position battle" that Archer's return ability is supposed to help.

I am disappointed in Archers return ability to date, but so are the coaches based on the change to Blount. Not sure why his return ability is so bad right now. Could be blocking but that opens up another can of worms to fix (and how).

The truth is, he's pretty low on the totem pole right now for this offense. With Bell and Blount running so well and effectively, I'm not taking carries away from them. With the 3-WR and 4-WR sets doing so well (with Brown, Wheaton, Moore and Bryant needing reps), why would I force Archer into the game?

He's very close to being the last guy getting a hat for game days so he's pretty irrelevant in the here-and-now.

After the season, we will see (I'm pretty sure he'll be on the roster next year).
