Steelers select CB Senquez Golson

I guess the midgets we were trying to upgrade, McCain and Blake also couldn't cover quick underneath WRs either. Going small at CB is a bad idea in todays NFL, especially when you have a 5'7: safety backing them up deep.

bye hanratty

He is a great guy but he's simply too small. he is 5-9 176 hes simply too small... The rules have turned the league into a jumpball league. It is what it is but we simply refuse to get that. The last few years big receivers have shredded us. We then go out and draft thomas at 5-9 and now this guy at 5-9. Let say he starts on opening day which he won't, but say he does, we have 5-10 gay, 5-9 thomas, 5-9 golson. Against New England. Are you Fuking kidding me? Does our front office even watch football? lowest sack total since 1989 when knoll coached and we pass on randy Gregory best pass rusher in the draft. If Gregory was drafted and all you had him do was shadow tight ends, it would be a better pick than this because we play every good tight end in football this year! And I mean all the good ones and it does not take a genius to figure out we are going to have a hard time stopping any of them when they put them out wide...

Isn't Dupree the better cover LB with better speed and more size? We may already have that guy...

New England doesn't have big wideouts. In fact, this pick strikes me as one made with beating New England in mind. The Cheats have just killed us with quick passes over the middle to their small and quick receivers. This is a guy who can keep up with those receivers, and can make Brady pay if he's off the mark.

The Steelers responded by drafting Dupree. Randy Gregory was not going to be drafted by the Steelers. I don't care that they brought him in for an interview. With our superstar running back getting suspended for dope and not being apart of the team for 3 games, the Steelers weren't going to go after anyone who already has an incident with the stuff. The same goes for Shane Ray. Regardless of how common the stuff is or however many players use it, they were gonna stay away from it. This team also wants to reestablish the locker room. Dupree has all the makings of being a classic steeler. I'm also a big fan of the fact that he was an academic all-American. Now, that doesn't mean jack on the football field, it shows that he also took his studies to heart as well and I feel it's a very underrated achievement when it comes to profiling these kids every year.

Deshea Townsend was 1 inch taller and had a great career with the Steelers!!!!!!

Of all the concerns stated above, I share none.
As previously stated by others, if you simply watch the tape, you'll soon realize the kid can play football and has all the athletic ability and instincts.
HOWEVER, something not pointed out here is a quote this kid gave.
"Baseball is my first and true love and I vow to return to the game"
THIS should be concerning to us and the Steelers, not his height and weight.

He was a serviceable player, but his career was anything but "great". No Pro Bowls, never did anything of note, and was routinely roasted by larger, faster WRs.

I get that we needed a corner. But I would rather have had a better prospect in Eli Harold, and taken a bigger stronger developmental corner in the later rounds. Golson was a major reach and will probably never amount to more than a nickel corner.

And I agree with whomever said Randy Gregory would never wear black and gold. He's got Josh Gordon written all over him, but I still liked him better than Golson.

He could try to Bo Jackson or Dion Sanders it...

I'm really excited that we drafted a CB with some ball skills finally. Would be nice if we can get more than the 10-12 interceptions a season that we've seemed to have been stuck around

Just glad Baltimore saved us from drafting a fricken tight end. We need defensive playmakers! Golson will contribute right away, and make big splash plays. He is a better choice than a tight end who would ride the pine, and get 2 touches a month. .

truth!

not sure how to act - a CB that can catch the ball - we're in unfamiliar territory here

he beat Bama, ya know

Don't know much about the guy, but i don't understand the uproar. We had to have a corner and they went like hot cakes. Was the pic a reach possibly, but if we do not take him then we are drafting a late round project cb again. We can / should still take a late round cb, but we needed someone who can play now. He is small but the can be offset by a good vertical jump and timing. If allen gets out of his funk we can be ok at cb, olb should be ok now, just need a safety, te, and project cb

Yeah I'm not happy with taking a 5'9" Corner. Who knows, he may turn out to be good but I'm not holding my breath.

Golson is a crap pick. We were planning to take Williams and the Rats ****** us. I would have taken PJ Williams

Gotta stop worrying about his size. He seems like a guy who can go get the football, which is exactly what the Steelers need. There are so many CBs in the league who look the part, but don't do anything. I think some of that is the rules, but that is the last thing the Steelers need. I just don't know how you can overlook his production and focus on his size while focusing on the size of the other guys but overlook the fact that they haven't made any turnovers. I want a guy who makes picks, not one who just looks good running around out there after receivers.

PJ Williams will be another guy who will look good following receivers around. He will have nice size and will look good in the uniform, but he didn't make many plays in college, for crying out loud. I don't know if Golson will be anything, but the starting point is better. He makes plays and does a little more than just run around after receivers.

We'll find out about him quickly. Opposing QBs will throw near the short guy.

I'll bet he gets to cover Dri a lot in camp....

I like the pick. Golson is compared to Brent Grimes. Grimes is an all pro.

Like Vader I watched the kid some and he has a huge upside on the outside when he plays zone.

The key is adding a ball hawk FS...

Awful, awful pick. If they had any balls at all they would have traded up a few to make sure Balt didn't beat us to Williams, who we wanted Arians got the last laugh trading with Baltimore to screw us.

does clairvoyance come from balls?

23 teams traded yesterday but we were content to wait around and pick up another midget. In round two. When it is our biggest weakness.

Deshea Townsend was a really nice player for us. More than solid. We would have a good secondary if we had 3 Desheas on the team.

There wasn't a single cb after the first round that is a sure thing. We have a 6'1" cb who was always 4-5 yards away from the receiver. I'd rather have a 5'9" guy who can keep up with receivers, than a 6'2" guy who can't. Will he occasionally be victimized because of his height? Sure he will, but he can make up for that by making some big plays. Those tall guys who were left are going to be victimized by their lack of skill, and they won't be picking off balls to make up for it. This kid is polished, and will see the field now. Those taller guys are all projects, who need to be developed, wouldn't help us this year, and could easily be the next Cortez Allen.

except this one, i have to agree with you.

If the front can get some pressure on the qb I could see this guy hiding in the backfield and sneaking some picks.....would be nice. We'll see.
