Steelers Release David DeCastro

Thing is Pouncey and Decastro were the good inside zone blockers on the OL - they could zip out into space and seal. NOW, the FO has put together an OL w/ an extremely agile C in KG, no DeCastro but Turner is deceptively quick. Injuries and age have quelled the bear inside of him - MAYBE he can summon the dark powers and again be a mauler the likes of which we Yanda seen before?!

The other three linemen? - straight up gangsta maulers.

So what plays are we gonna call? Because Dot, Ok, and Banner aint getting out there in time for an effective zone. And KG & Turner are susceptible to getting blown the **** up in the middle.

I just dont know. I would toy with a pass-happy, C-Finney/ RG-Coward, shotgun & 5-wide offense.

Canada made his system work at Wisconsin who is not known for their quickness on the OL. He likes 2 TE sets which helps slower linemen. I think that's why they prioritized TE and RB over the OL.

I have complete confidence that the Steelers will field a competitive team that will not win the super bowl..
But hey, never a losing season under MT.

When the STEELERS win #7 this season, I'd like to here some acknowlegement in equal to the current "dispare" as to their SB (Super Bowl ) success.

DeCastro facing 3rd surgery on his ankle. Releasing him makes total sense. He will probably retire.

Why not? He has brand new students...

But, back to the freaking elephant in the room - WHAT IN THE FACK IS HAPPENING??? This season is going to be the ULTIMATE HIGH if we get into the playoffs....

Where's my bottle o' rum???
cutting back on the hard stuff and going to rum, I see. I gotchu, my friend.

Alright, jumping on the conspiracy bandwagon - DD found out they're not letting them practice in Latrobe (while the Cowboys get to go to CA) and it was the final straw. He was pretty vocal about Covid and the restrictions, so maybe he's had enough of the double-standard BS in addition to the ankle and a pro-bowl level, 9-year career having made a ton of money.

He probably also misses his brothers.

/takes tinfoil hat off
or ... DD heard from his attorney that he's been implicated in a certain "suicide" across the pond whereas he's the murderer and wants to clear out of town before the walls close in.

^^^ This is more believable, actually.

If DeCastro's ankle was a problem last year and now bad enough to require surgery, why wait until a month before training camp to have it? Why not have it right after the season if he intended to come back and play this season?

DeCastro may have been questioning whether he wanted to return over the past few months. Pouncey is gone, Villanueva is gone, Ben is close to gone, and he's on a bad wheel causing chronic pain. Or maybe, he gets the ankle fixed (again) and sits out 2021 working on it.

Either way, bone spurs are a problem and will likely keep coming back in the same spot. the surgery is more of a maintenance fix than a permanent fix. And age is not his friend in this endeavor.

Whatever the real issue, I wish him well. He was really good for a long time. Something to be said for leaving with some quality of health.

Our line sucked last year. We couldn't run the ball for ****. Changes needed to be made. With all of that said , it still may be worse. Lot of question marks on it now. But no way can we say we lost a great performing line. It has been slipping the past 2 years.

This is good news. Steelers upgraded. Decastro has been going downhill. He was never a great run blocker. He was a technician but got bullied and I believe part of the short yardage struggles were Pouncey and Decastro being soft.
I agree. I don't understand all the doom-and-gloom. DeCastro just wasn't very good last season, and he was part of the reason the OL struggled.

I like DD attitude, good dude. He seems like he gets the decision and doesn't have resentment(now). I don't know if he would be coming back after that third surgery or the risk is too large. Wishing him the best. It sucks, but it's a business.

Thank you for your contributions Mr Decastro, and I wish you great success as you get on with your life's work
Be kinda cool if he went in the booth on game days. But, I wonder if it's even something he'd consider. He was a leader by example, not sound.

We need someone like MYRON COPE back in the booth. Maybe David could "roam" the sidelines...........................

It explains why he was suddenly ineffective last season after being great for so long.

It's kind of crazy how the wheels fell off both he and Pouncey at the same time.

Both fell short of average career lengths for their position, especially all pro level players at those positions...

If i recall wasn't Wisconsin a man to man situation for their OL? So i think you're probably correct with Canada & 2 TEs.

And that would mean we would shift towards mauling lineman like Dot and maybe the Moore kid. If that's where they are headed, Najee & Friar makes perfect sense - KG not all. And Turner whelp that's a resurrection project then.

Iirc Canada uses hbacks and fullbacks and tes all interchangeably... sort of like arians but with a more decisive running game... its why i think there might be a real role for Samuels this season

I've been hoping the Moore kid could take charge and start but DeCastro spoke highly of Chucks doing a good job so far. I just want the BEST player to win starting position and not due to favoror / vet statis as Coach Tomlin has shown in the past.

If the best player is Chucks then so be it and I wish them all best.

I can see Pouncey, as he's had a long history of leg/foot injuries, but Decastro's issues kind of came out of nowhere.

I really thought he'd be one of those guys playing at a decent level into his mid-30s if he wanted to.

he should of disclosed it after the season to the FO not a month before camp, he left MT and Colbert handcuffed when you tell them this late its business already capped strapped PUP wouldnt help the team find a replacement easily and still add vets who may be cut in camp, Its Smart business that I'm sorry we didn't go the loyality say we restructed Tuitt and Haden it would barley open enough room to just sign Turner as well Green still needs to sign and the staff has made it known they want another rusher
All the best DD

Maybe Tombert were informed the entire way this off-season. And what would have the Steelers done different if they weren't? Draft a guard? They did. Sure they have plans to move him to center. They brought back Legs as a G/C option also. They have pieces to move around now especially with the signing of Turner.
