We’re even worse at OLB, I would have went Landry. That would have been a decent value pick and someone to push Bud to improve or lose his spot cause Chickillo damn sure isn’t going to do that.

I know, its almost like everyone in the world knows what we need and then we do something else. In this case, good pick - although I wanted Michel. Stay tuned - be on the lookout for an undersized middle lb or a wr way too early.
According to Jason Lacanfora, several teams had him rated as a late 1 pick.

They wanted Vander Esche. He was gone. Its essentially what I said in a different body. He will play Shaziers role on third down. He is big enough to tackle the draw and fast enough to cover. He fills the immediate role and is a missing piece and down the road hopefully he becomes a solid starter. Value. Maybe not, but there are only so many of these guys that fit this particular bill.

The third choice is both make the pro bowl, somehow I don't think that will happen.
More like Davis will remain the starter, with Edmunds gradually replacing Burnett in a couple years.

Guy has played corner, rover,and free safety. So I would say that the kid can tackle and definitely cover.

I liked Edmunds when i watched him. As i mentioned in my other thread, i did not have as much time this year to get into the draft. Because of that, i focused more on guys projected in mocks to go in the 1st. I don't like doing that because most people who do mocks are no more qualified than me to rank players.
I focused more on Reid, Bates and Harrison because those were the guys projected to be drafted around 28. I also think the steelers interest in him was masked by his brother. Tomlin, Colbert, Butler, and Olsavsky were all at the Va Tech pro day. It made sense because his brother Tremaine was the stud LB. I think everyone just assumed they were there for him and didn't connect them as much to Terrell.
Now that i dig more into his measurables. This was a great pick. Safety was a need and they got one of the top prospects. Maybe they could have traded back and still got him but it would have been a risk. I think it's a drop after Edmunds to Reid and Harrison.
That is something else that should make people feel better about this pick. It's not like there were 5 safeties off the board and the steelers were reaching. The chose Edmunds over Reid and bates and everyone aside from the 2 elite prospects James and FItzpatrick.
The NFL seemed to agree because Edmunds was in the green room. They only invite guys that have a consensus 1st round grade. No, i do not believe he was just there with his brother. If he was, then he would have left when his bro was picked. Plus, that was not a suit a guy buys just to sit in a green room off camera.

Exactly they had options and they picked who they had rated highest on their board.
A "work-in-progress" who missed a bunch of open field tackles and takes bad angles to the ball, projected by many to go in the third round, is not my idea of a great first round pick. And he's coming off a season-ending shoulder injury on top of it.

Something must be up with Landry? There seemed to be a lot of mock drafts with him going in round 1 and not in the last 5 or 6 picks, i dont think.
How come there are all these conflicting reports. I just read something that said he missed a ridiculously small amount of tackles last year and you say he tackles ******.

I think Landry was rated so high because edge rusher is so thin in this draft. That was the whole reason i was in favor of taking him. Not because i thought he was some can't miss guy, but because it may have been the only shot in this draft at a decent edge rush prospect and Safety and ILB had good prospects that would be available in RDs 2 and 3.
Landry may only appeal to 3-4 teams and he's undersized. That's probably why he's still available.

I am looking forward to a top talent in our secondary. We've proven that we can coach up basic tackling and angles----sorry, I was laughing so hard when I typed that.. But seriously, if we just have him spend some time at a high school program, I think we can develop him.

Exactly tape he was in the green room in a suit..that tells you he was told he would possibly be picked in the first..the NFL doesnt like the PR nightmare of guys sitting back there and not being picked. He had a 1st round grade by enough teams to warrant a invite

I think it was a case of there being nobody they thought was a future every down starter with a 1st Round Grade so they took an athlete that can actually contribute in sub packages.
If he can cover Gronko and other athletic pass catching TEs on obvious passing downs, which is what Davis couldn't do or the Steelers would have been the #1 seed, he's worth the #28.

There's a link on Twitter and Steelersdepot that says he missed only 5 tackles in 585 snaps in 3 years. That's pretty good. We've had players miss that many tackles in 1 game lol.
