Steelers News: Cam Heyward Contract Restructure, Big Ben Radio Comments and More

Okay then. That is for a tagged player.

If the tag is rescinded can a player received a new deal after July 16th or not?

What I'm asking for is this. Is there a way for the Steelers to give Bell a long term deal now or not?

Here noodle head....this is the friggin link to the source on page 46. https://nfllabor.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/collective-bargaining-agreement-2011-2020.pdf

To paraphrase:

“Any Club designating a Franchise Player shall have until 4:00 p.m., New York time, on July 15 of the League Year (or, if July 15 falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the first Monday thereafter) for which the designation takes effect to sign the player to a multiyear contract or extension. After that date, the player may sign only a one-year Player Contract with his Prior Club for that season, and such Player Contract may not be extended until after the Club’s last regular season game of that League Year.”

Write this on your blackboard at home 50 times do you can remember it and not have to start another thread about it.

"Rescinding the franchise tag on Le’Veon Bell would be stupid, and Steelers management isn’t in the business of doing stupid things," Steelers.com's Bob Labriola wrote when asked about the possibility of the team rescinding Bell's tag.

Labriola is full time beat writer / part time spin man for the Steelers who knows the Rooney's well. I do like his stuff as a football writer, but if you see him live on TV he become less impressive. He's far from an expert and will tell you that. He makes zero decisions for the Steelers.

Someone else finally posted the information. Okay you can't rescind the tag and offer a new deal after the deadline.

This information has been posted by several folks for the last 2 months. You have been to dense to realize it.

what if i stick the fork into THIS socket?

Bell can only play for the Franchise Tag this season. Seriously though. How many times do you have to be told this?

Actually, I think they can pay him more than the franchise amount, if they so choose. It would still be a one-year deal. It would still be a "franchise tag", but theoretically, the Steelers could bump up the money from $14.5 million (whatever it is) to $16 million or something and still be within the rules.

I know it's odd, but that's what I am hearing and reading about on the web.

Same **** has been discussed here for two years. Hello McFly, anybody home?

Yes. They can do this.

Nothing stopping them but the amount of cap we have left.

They're clearing the cap down for something. I just hope it's defense if they're working a deal with someone.

There are in the area of 12M under. Figure a little for the season and they are looking at around 9M to spend. No availble FA's are worth that right now (there is a reason they are not signed). This is either internal or a trade.

I am hoping that they are trading for Earl Thomas. Having him back at FS would make our D many times better. We just rescind the tag on Bell and give his money to Earl. Make it happen Steelers!

Pay attentions, boyo, we are going to give them Bell.

I would take that trade in a heartbeat but Seattle are in the **** and need picks. I think we trade them the #32 pick of next year's draft.

Seattle just drafted a running back in the first round this year. They don't want Bell.

What's the hypothetical trade for Earl Thomas? Sean Davis, 2019 #2 2020 #3(that maybe turns into a #2)?

Earl Thomas is a freaking Hall of Famer probably and I would love to have him here.

Are you really that ******* dense?

https://www.sbnation.com/2018/7/13/...-deadline-extension-leveon-bell-ezekiel-ansah

The NFL’s franchise tag guarantees the player who receives it is due a sizable sum on a one-year deal. But the player and team have until the middle of July to negotiate a long-term contract extension.

This year that deadline came at 4 p.m. ET on July 16, and it affected four players. None got a new deal, though.

Franchise-tagged players are locked into their one-year deals and cannot begin negotiations with their teams until after the last regular-season game of the year.

So you mean there’s like a written rule about why Bell can’t get a long term contract under the franchise tag?

Written within the structure of the tag rules....

Doesn't stop both parties from winking and nudging their way to a understanding of what will be offered come the end of the season..

Dallas offered a #2. Our #2 should be a higher pick. It'd have to be more, presumably.

back to the OP - the Cam restructure was to make room under this year's cap and it only got us to just over 4M per Dale Lolley over at DK Sports. Overthecap.com reflects that now as well; I think they were previously behind in updates (not shocking given all the teams they have to update after cuts).

McDonald restructured as well.
