Steelers Must Not Run the Wheels Off Le’Veon Bell

Bell is 10,000 X better at his job than ******* Kordell ever was at his!

no comparison

"slash" was fun to watch !

For now

Le'Veon not planning regular-season holdout

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports Le'Veon Bell "plans to play a full 16-game season"

Meaning he does not plan to holdout into the regular season. According to NFL Network's Ike Taylor, there is a "strong possibility" he will skip at least part of training camp, something he is able to do without fine because he has yet to sign his franchise tender.

On the contract front, Bell said he turned down an offer for reportedly "over" $12 million per year because he wants to be paid like a running back and a No. 2 receiver, a number Taylor thinks is around $15 million. That is probably not going to happen anytime soon considering the Steelers can franchise him again next year for around $14.5 million, but Bell should completely reshape the running back market when he signs a long-term deal.

I think the Guaranteed money of the tag is becoming somewhat attractive to some of these guys. He signs the tag, they hand him 12 million dollars. He probably takes out a substantial insurance policy and he will be in the same boat next year. Until the guaranteed money hits his liking. So long as he plays as hard as he has and doesn't puss out at some point. I'm fine with it.

More frustration than fun IMO...

That was when he became a QB, I'm talking his "slash" role. Electrofing

According to his apologists here he's still better than Ben

Not an apologist here and NO never ever ever thought Kordell was better than BEN.

I think fans are clouded and mostly remember his QB meltdown. If he would have stayed slash he would have opened up a probowl for a new position. He would have lasted longer than the QB version in the NFL as well.

I like that idea too, but Kordell was insistent on being a QB. It was an issue when he was named a starter, and he would not take a demotion to WR.

You're right, there are a lot of huckleberries here who ONLY Remeber the QB version. When Korky was "slash" it was an absolute electric things that he could do. It was a nightmare for defenses to account for Kordell in that role.

Your memory serves you well as Korky was so stubborn to that fact. He wanted QB and nothing no how anything else. Obviously you need someone to throw him the ball but at WR he would have been a full load to handle. Multiple pro bowls and possibly HOF consideration. Not only did he have wheels but he had some stregnth to be a hard tackle. what could have been seems easier said than done. I'm not trying to build him into a super human but he was all the above,........ JUST not at QB..!!!!

We won't run his wheels off IMO. We have other backs and a ******* stacked WR core.

Shades of Kordell Stewart.

Folks loved him for awhile too. Then he got greedy. Wanted the big money and the position.

"Kordell, get in there an' punt." - Cowher in a nice thick Burgh accent. One of my favorite clips.

No **** AWESOME clip, he had a 80yard touchdown pass, he had an 80 yard QB run touchdown, A-N-D an 80 yard punt........... Can t*mmy b*y say that?????

.

I say... run him until the wheels fall off!

Last year... 261 carries and 75 receptions.

Next year... 310 carries and 70 receptions.

No limit! Run him all day... every day.

.

I say run him like your playing for a Super Bowl Championship. Think about that for a second.............. Hard when you need to soft when not. Use your depth as long as your winning and save as much wear for when the time counts. No one thinks twice about saving Harrison for the 2nd half run. I'm not saying he is right or wrong on the contract thingy but to run his wheels off with early fatigue then expect him to perform at the HIGH pace needed down the road is just ludicrous. Run him when needed and rest him when can, similar to playing for a Super Bowl Championship......... Ya dig?

I mean let's look at the scenario Roethlisberger plays two more season and we tag Bell both of those years.

Come 2019 the combined money coming "off the books" of salary cap between those two players would exceed $30 million. That's a lot of money to create the depth needed to compete without a superstar QB or continue to develop someone young or attempt to trade-and-sign a disgruntled QB around the league or just go sign a mid-range QB free agent.

And that's just assuming we keep going the way we are going signing our young players, extending the good ones and building through the draft (which there appears to be more than enough cap room to do with it's recent yearly increases).

A long term deal for Bell might be nice but I'm not sure it's necessary to our goal of winning a championship before Roethlisberger retires. And any long term deal also brings some risk that could handcuff us if Bell gets hurt, drops off in performance (unlikely considering his age) or relapses in the drug program or off-field (more likely).

I'm not so sure Ben will even consider playing past two more years. He's young enough to do whatever he wants, has enough money to cover himself and his family for the foreseeable future and is starting to see a slide in his performance. It drives me crazy to watch him be on the money one week and all over the place the next, I can't imagine how he feels about it.

No, it's now or never for Ben in these next two years, then we better have a plan 'B' ready or it's back to the '80's again. Remember Bubby ?

Pretty good but not quite good enough

**** that. The team offered him a whale of a deal and the guy turned it down. $12M wasn't good enough He wanted $16M knowing it would mean loosing other pieces of the team to pay him that. Run that ****** into the ground and use him up, he can be a broken down mercenary someplace else when his contract here expires.

LOL, Spoken like a real fan. While I agree, I wonder how many others will want to spare the whip and spoil the child ? Speaking metaphorically of course.

Getting our money's worth would be my goal for the year, his choice.

If we rest him and save his carries, I think we will be saving them for another team to use. His allegiance looks to be with whoever will pay him the most. Use him while you have him I say.

Le'Veon Bell a no-show for opening of camp

#AsExpected. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported 10 days ago that Bell may not report until "mid-to-late August."

The Steelers probably don't mind too much. Bell has shown a tremendous ability to hit the ground running after long layoffs, and will avoid injury risk in camp. It's not a strategy that works for a lot of players, but Bell seems to be an exception. Bell is fully expected to report before Week 1.

In his mind he already has one foot out the door. At least his holdout will give him more time to come up with some sick rhymes for his next rap album....so there's that.

After some careful consideration, I have decided as Head coach ......... If and when he shows up, I would run him so hard his next two years would be his last.

Indeed **** this guy. He can go be the top paid player at a second tier organization.

I'm fine with the holdout and don't want him on a football field until September. Certain players don't need practice anymore. AB, Harrison, Heyward, Shazier. Limit them. Maybe a quarter of action in the entire preseason. See if the younger players can play and avoid injury to your big names. Ben has to practice, but he has a red jersey, so injury is not likely.
