Steelers Must Not Run the Wheels Off Le’Veon Bell

Does it really matter...

Let him be late...he can miss the first 4 games for all I care...makes him fresher for the Super Bowl run..

Its obvious he is not a Steeler for much longer anyhow...so let play his game and over use him later in the season to get that 7th Lombardi..

Davis and Connor can carry the load until prima dona realizes he needs some cash money to get him by until he gets "paid"...

Running backs usually don't play entire seasons anymore anyway...

To me the entire situation is not surprising

Run the wheels off him!

Mike Tomlin says there are “consequences” for Le’Veon Bell’s absence

Unlike players who are under contract, the Steelers can’t fine running back Le’Veon Bell $40,000 a day.

But coach Mike Tomlin suggested there’s still some price to pay.

If the Steelers wanted to take the nuclear option, they could always pull the $12.1 million franchise tag. But that would make the central component of their offense a free agent immediately, so they obviously would be hesitant to do that.

But since he’s not signed, he can’t be fined. He also skipped all the voluntary work throughout the spring, and they didn’t necessarily expect him.

That doesn’t mean they don’t want him sooner rather than later.

“Obviously I would like for him to be here,” Tomlin said. “He is not. I am going to focus my energies on the guys who are. It’s an unfortunate circumstance, one that we’ll deal with, one that he’ll deal with. I’ve had good clean communication with him. I’ll keep the nature of that conversation between us. Rest assured he’ll be ready to play football. When he gets here, he gets here.”

Run him so hard he regrets being greedy. Run him so hard so he’ll walk away with an expiration date. We always seem to pick the Mike Wallace types and it ends up with us parting ways with the freak of nature athletes... and you know what? I’m not mad because I t’s what the game has come to. Money. No respect for the organization or its fans, or the city. Conner will play his heart out, not for the money, but for his CITY/HOME. He can be great for us.

Well, Tomlin did play Bell and Blount well into the second half of a preseason game a few years ago after they got busted.

Willie Parker was an all-world amazing back.

Until he wasn't. One bad injury on some turf and Willie just wasn't ever quite the same again. He had one or two good games after that, but he just wasn't "Suhweeet Tittays" anymore.

Bell is going to get his career and league leading carries this year to match his efforts to flip the script on Running Backs. If he does well and stays healthy he's going to be in position to land another big payday either through a contract or through a tag. Either way, the Steelers need to use him up. He wants them to so he can maximize his opportunity anyway. He can't demonstrate his true value if he's only given 10 carries a game.

What I WOULD do though is give Connors the ball at the goal line every single time. Remember before Duce got hurt and was tearing up the field for about half or 2/3 of a season but Bus got all the goal line carries and subsequently the TDs? How would Lev Bell feel if Connors got all the TDs after he (Bell) racked up all the field lettuce? Perhaps those are the "consequences" one deals with for showing up late and not learning the goal line packages.

Ya, I can be a dick.

Of course, after all you are a friggin, capitalist from flyover territory. I hear that is the new definition of a dick.
