The Steelers will reportedly exercise the fifth-year option on linebacker Bud Dupree’s contract. This coming via NFL Network’s Ian Rapopport. The #Steelers have exercised the 5th year option on LB Bud Dupree, source said. The #Cowboys have done the same on CB Byron Jones. — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) April 23, 2018 Dupree has had an […]

I'm surprised. Hopefully he produces this year so he can earn it next year.

The Steelers are in trouble at LB if they have to pay 9M to the underperforming Dupree. Dumb..

Good move. If they are happy at the end of the year they can work out a long term. If not one and done. The fan doesnt see everything the coaching staff.

Strongly dislike. I just don't think Dupree has it. He over pursues on the rush and gets killed against the run constantly.

2nd half of 2016 he looked like a beast in the making. 2017, was pretty much meh. I'll wait to see how he does this year, he flashed that freakish talent, but hasn't put a full season of it on tape as of yet.

Joe

Eh. I would have passed, but I guess they like him as a cover guy and overall athlete. Def not above average at containing edge runs or rushing the passer

They asked some different things of him in terms of coverage. If they can go man it might change his numbers some. As a 1st rounder meh, but not everyone is a star. hopefully he plays well and they can give him a 3 or 4 year deal that will being down the 9m.

There's no reason to not pick up his option. They can decline it prior to the new league yesr next year unless he suffers a major injury

TOTALLY agree. It's as if some here may not have read the article, shame on them. Just a reminder that advertising helps pay for this site so even if you don't read the article, click on it for that simple reason. The STEELERS have very little risk on this deal and BUD is doing better than some here may think. Does he have the spectacular plays...... sacks.... NO but look around, the game has evolved into quick pass avoid the sack type play. NO excuse as BUD has weaknesses but also realize that he contributed on holding TEs to the lowest completion/yards in the NFL (if memory serves me) 2017 season. That has to help some. I'm hoping he plays bigger this season but with that, his pay is pretty cheap for this year. REPEAT....Low risk decision.

Salute the nation

I'm glad to hear this. Way too early to give up on a young player like Dupree, who has 1000x the physical skill set Jarvis Jones had.

Not really surprised at the move. Hopefully, they let our OLB's do more rushing the passer this year than dropping into coverage. Bud needs to focus on rushing the passer. He's not very good when dropping back. Watt can do it all but not Bud so let him focus on his strength.

Because we cannot let him go and further deplete an already depleted area on our team.....

So should we throw $9 million at Chickolo too? Just because we need help at the position doesn't mean we HAVE to keep everybody who's there. Dupree's part of the reason WHY we need help there.

OK, good to know. With that in mind, then I don't really mind it.

From the article...

Should Dupree have another lack luster season in 2018 the Steelers could move on from him after the season at no cost.

So, if he breaks out, we get him for, at least, one more year at $9m. If he sucks, we cut him. If he has, or can fake a major injury, we get ******.

With all that, i still wouldn't have done it, i don't think.i've seen enough to think $9m for him next year would be a bargain.

They should switch both, watt should be on the strong side where he would help a Lot more dropping in coverage while Dupree concentrated on becoming a decent rushing specialist
