Hey, if they can play D like they did for the first half against the Seahawks, and sustain that through 4 quarters, they've got a chance. Was impressed with the way the D came out to start that game, then it all came unwound and fell apart in the 2nd half. Can't have that, they've gotta find a way to keep it tight, to give Rudolph a chance...

That's called making adjustments... something this coaching staff struggles with.

Unfortunately he can't play Davis and Hilton's spots at the same time. I don't think he gets moved around too much with Davis out. Unless later down the road they view Hilton the weak link over Kelly.

Steelers players ‘excited’ to welcome Minkah Fitzpatrick to secondary
https://triblive.com/sports/steeler...wly-acquired-minkah-fitzpatrick-to-secondary/

Terrell Edmunds was excited to welcome Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Pittsburgh Steelers, especially knowing that they could be paired as the starting safeties for the next four years.

Fitzpatrick is practicing for the first time with the Steelers since being acquired Tuesday in a trade with the Miami Dolphins for a 2020 first-round pick and a swap of later-round selections.

“He’s going out there and putting it all on the line,” said Edmunds, the second-year strong safety. “I’m glad he’s on our team now. Let’s make some plays together.”

The 6-foot-1, 207-pound Fitzpatrick is expected to start at free safety in place of Sean Davis, who was placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, when the Steelers visit the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

Edmunds worked out with Fitzpatrick before the 2018 NFL Draft, where Fitzpatrick was the No. 11 overall pick and the Steelers selected Edmunds with the 28[SUP]th[/SUP] pick of the first round.

“We know he’s a competitor,” Edmunds said. “We’re on board work together so we know how smart each other can be, so now we’ve got to translate that to our play on Sunday.”

Slot cornerback Mike Hilton said the trade for Fitzpatrick sent a message to the players that the Steelers aren’t giving up on the season after losing quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to season-ending elbow surgery.

“He’s ready to learn, already asking questions, already vibing with the guys,” Hilton said. “You can tell he’s excited to be here and we’re excited to have him.”

The challenge for Fitzpatrick, who had 80 tackles, nine pass breakups and two interceptions as a rookie with the Dolphins, will be learning the Steelers’ system and especially the verbiage.

“I feel as if he’s going to pick it up fast,” Edmunds said. “He seems like he knows what he’s talking about now. That’s really on us. It’s not so much on him. We’ve got to make him feel comfortable back there. From there, his play is going to do the talking. I can’t speak for his resume because his resume speaks for itself.”

Come on, nothing wrong the scheme, can't blame the scheme, the scheme is great, no need to ever adjust.

we have a scheme? I thought we were content on letting offenses run at will until they got tired, THEN we unleashed hell after turning over stones in the lab, obbeeuslee.

According to Tomlin's presser, they're going to 'anchor him' at FS for this upcoming game.

So much for that idea...

I think Mark is just guessing. I would keep him at FS. Until he knows the playbook like the back of his hand.

One of the issues he had a Miami was they were moving him all over the field. He didn't like it.

he did say that. though i would suggest that winning would cure all that ailment. he lost more games as a fish in one year than he did during his entire time at Bama.

Losing will make those minor issues inflated with some players. Win and know the scheme/playbook and he will be just fine. Although he will have to learn how to play off the WR and transfer coverage to the linebackers. Also he will have to learn how to miss a few more tackles as he gets acclimated to the team. Now if he is initially confused he will fit in right with the rest of the defense.

I think Fitz saw the FO blowing up the team, moving players out left and right, on a clear path to tanking...and did not want to be a part of it. I doubt it had anything to do with what position(s) the Fins wanted thim to play.

I'd listen to the player and those around him before I'd speculate about it. Going from a 0-2 to an 0-2 that just lost their HOF QB isn't going from a loser to a winner.

"The new staff has also struggled to have a clear vision for Fitzpatrick. From the Dolphins perspective, coaches see Fitzpatrick as something of a jack of all trades but they are still searching for the position where he can be dominant.

So the team has continued to move Fitzpatrick around and last week against Baltimore he played safety, linebacker, and nickel corner.

Fitzpatrick, the source close to him said, emerged from Sunday’s game convinced coaches didn’t have a clear plan for him. He doesn’t believe they put him in the best position to succeed."

He said he didn't like being moved around before the trade rumors started. I would probably believe him.

isn't that what we did with Morgan Burnette?

Well, if you listen to what Fitz said yesterday, he's is definitely considering this move going from a loser to a winner, our 0-2 start notwithstanding. And btw, he loves Coach Tomlin, whom he met several times down in Alabama and at combine. Told his mom he would 'absolutely love to play for Tomlin,' for whatever it's worth.

Doesn't matter if the Steelers are losers at the moment. There is a long track record of winning that NFL players are aware of. As the lolphins are a year to year joke.He talked about everything in his Steelers video and you could tell it isn't a concern. As he is excited to be on the team and move forward. Really his prior complaints are a non issue IMO.
