Steelers cuts starting

If they cut Fogg and Webb there must be a corner on another team they are interested in who will likely get cut. Personally, I thought Fogg outperformed Webb and deserved a 53 spot.

Steelers reduce roster to 53 players; sign cornerback Ross Cockrell

The team can sign up to 10 practice squad players after 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 6.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Steelers have made several roster moves, trimming their roster to the league-mandated 53 players prior to today’s 4 p.m. deadline, the team announced.

Pittsburgh released running backs Jawon Chisholm and Josh Harris, defensive linemen Matt Conrath, Ethan Hemer and Mike Thornton, safeties Jordan Dangerfield, Alden Darby and Gerod Holliman, offensive linemen Reese Dismukes, B.J. Finney and Doug Legursky, cornerbacks Kevin Fogg and B.W. Webb, linebackers L.J. Fort, Shayon Green and Howard Jones, and wide receivers Shakim Phillips and Jarrod West.

The Steelers placed offensive linemen Kelvin Palmer and Mitchell Van Dyk on the team’s Waived/Injured List.

Pittsburgh also signed free agent cornerback Ross Cockrell to a one-year contract.
The 6-0, 190-pound Duke University product entered the NFL as a fourth-round (109th overall) draft selection of the Buffalo Bills in 2014 and appeared in seven games during his rookie season. He was released by Buffalo last month. Cockrell will wear No. 31.

I liked Cockrell in 2014 draft. Nice pick up.

And / or a running back to replace either Will Johnson or Nix. Two FB's on the roster? Crazy ****...

So does Nix get nixed after two games, when Bell comes back?

I think I would've cut Heyward-Bey and kept Phillips, it seemed that every time I saw Phillips he was pulling in some pretty poorly thrown passes.

Seeing how DWill is the only RB on the roster, I guess Haley wasn't kidding he has a role for Archer. Are they planing to go 5 wide on every single third down, as Archer can't block back there...gonna be interesting these first few games...

Will Johnson will probably play RB and back up Williams.

Maybe his role will be to set the ball up for the punter.

They probably figure no one will pick up Legs off of waivers, so they will sign him back when they move Pouncey over.

Ten LBs seems like overkill...

With Bryant out, I would've kept Phillips.

Note: More than a 25 percent turnover from last year's roster. That has to be a record for the Stillers.

ILB is thick

OK let me reword this. Is WR the only position NOT thin at talent and/or bodies?

LT is good, Shazier has talent but unproven, VW is OK, SS has not impressed.

I don't expect them to try and upgrade the position, but I'm not all that excited about the ILB either.

Archer still there??????????????? We do not seem to want to have players that can contribute.

Not a bad idea at all...just won't happen though...
You know what, I wouldn't rule it out just yet. The Seahawks are now reporting to be looking for a veteran Safety as a replacement because of the hold out, and we have 8 mil in cap last I heard. If I'm the Steelers I'm doing everything possible to convince them to take Shamarko, add on a couple draft picks and it could happen.

Seems we are really iffy at center. If Wallace gets hurt, who is backup? We have 7 total lineman not counting pouncey. That does not seem like enough. I would cut a FB and ILB and add a center and another utility OL.

jitter I believe the plan is to bring Legursky back as soon as they put Pounce on the IR/Return list. So he may be back as soon as tmrw. Or yes, they'll bring in someone else to back up Wallace. I actually hope they bring in two OL guys. They have to be able to find someone better than Hubbard, who's actually regressed since last year.

So the Seahawks obviously solid decision makers is going to trade a rock solid safety for a often injured safety who despite being in the league what three years, has no significant playing time under his belt? throw in a few draft picks?

Whatever yinz smoking today is some gooooooooooooooood ****.

puff puff pass don't bogart

Salary cap reasons. According to overthecap.com the Seahawks have the 4th worst space in the NFL, they can't resign him even if they wanted to. Shamarko's a starting safety with a low price tag. Of course it's a downgrade for them but it still makes sense. Chances of it happening tho are still slim.

Thomas had done nothing up to now.

Not the kind of player the Seahawks would want, let alone give up a draft pick or two for.
