July 16, 2018 before 4 p.m. ET was the NFL deadline for a contract extension agreement between*Le’Veon Bell and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Bell and the Steelers were in talks all day today, but as the day grew longer and longer, the optimism to get a long-term deal done began to fade. The deadline has passed […]

Can't wait until the numbers come out on what each side. Must have been tough being Bell'$ agent trying to work a deal out when Bell was calling every 15 min changing his demands.

Our link has Bell and his Agent's statement.

This one also includes the statement released by the Steelers:

The last known offer before this weekend from the Steelers was 13.3/year with 30 million guaranteed in the first two years. So if it was a 5 year contract, Bell could have if he played through the contract would’ve made at least 70 million not counting incentive bonuses. That’s AB money. So good luck to him and playing for mediocre franchises. Hopefully he has his best year, so he can cash in on that extra $$. No doubt he thinks the extra 20 million he will get is worth it while sitting at home in January with another team.

Ike I know you made a mistake here when you said 60 million guaranteed first two years.

Run the feet off of him and cut him loose. $13.3M per year wasn't good enough for him then good luck to him getting more elsewhere.

He is just another great RB. They come around a lot. How long they stay in the league is always the concern. We were swept by a team with a rookie RB. Nothing to see here...

I agree exactly with the Steelers who made very generous offers putting Bell’s annual salary 5 million higher than the next highest paid back. Bell had said he wanted to reset the market and retire a Steeler. I think the team’s offers would have done exactly that.
What young Mr. Bell failed to realize that unlike MLB and the NBA contracts are not fully guaranteed and the NFL must play under the rules of the salary cap.
The team imo did everything to accommodate LevBell without sending the team through cap hell.
I don’t think Bell was being reasonable at all wanting to double the salary that the next highest RB earns. It would like Ben saying I want twice what Garrapolo is earning from the Niners annually so pay me 60 million a year.

Sign and trade please!

How many times does this need to be pointed out, you cannot do that. This isn't the NBA. And now that the deadline has passed, we can't do **** because he isn't under contract until his signs his franchise tender...keep up people.

He's not just another great RB, and they don't come around a lot. There's none like him right now, and the ones that are close, are still a solid step down in terms of all around game.

With that said, he was too stubborn and not willing to budge at all. $13.3 was last years offer, they increased it this year... still wasn't good enough. That's on him, not the Steelers. They were willing to pay him more than $5m a year more than the next highest... oh well. Get that ring this year, and he can go rack up stats for some perennial loser

Gonna suck when he gets hurt..

If he agrees with the trade it wouldn't be a problem, he signs his franchise tag tomorrow and then gets traded to the team giving him the contract he wants

Bell is a unique back, excellent in the rushing, receiving, and pass blocking department. In terms of production, there are probably 7-8 other backs in the league who could produce the same or better than Bell in our offensive system. New England gets good production using 3-4 running backs each season. Bell is going to be a loss, but the running back position is one of the easier ones to replace in the NFL.

when I said sign and trade that meant sign the tag, we know the deadline for a long term has expired. The tag is in effect when he

SIGNS it

So I guess I kept up pretty nicely

hi

30 million in the first 2 years.... wow

That was last year's offer. $30 million over two years and $42 million over the first three of the five-year deal, this year's was reportedly over $30 million over the first two years. But they really stepped up, offering $14 million per year, up from $12 million per year last season.

He's a Steeler and I will cheer him on right up until he passes the Lombardi to someone else. Then I'm done with him. If he doesn't show up week one, I'm done with him then.

Alright, so Bell wanted paid like a running back and receiver. Freeman is the top paid back outside of Bell at about $8.3 million per year and Sanders is the top paid No. 2 receiver at about $6.7 million per year. Given that most of Bell's receiving production comes as an outlet receiver, $14 million per year is a terrific offer from the Steelers.

“they really stepped up, offering $14 million per year, up from $12 million per year last season.”

Still ridiculous that a guy like that rejects an offer so good. It shows just how blatant his lack of interest is with the Steelers. He talks a big game when he says he wants to be one, but has done all the right things to mean otherwise. Money talks though, so who am I to say anything.

Who tf would actually pay him more as a 27 year old running back?

I agree, it's one thing to say you want to retire a Steeler, it is another to turn down that type of deal, especially when you consider he'd probably see at least four, if not all five years of it. As far as who will pay him, the Jets have to be the early favorite. TONS of cap room and a young quarterback. Playing in NYC has to be appealing too.

I don't like the "They wanted to pay the position not the player". thats bullshit. Then its 10-12 million. they offered more. Will be somewhat difficult next year. Might find out 3 or four years from now that today was a good day for the Steelers.
