Steelers 1st Round Pick

Just saw the video of Lemon on the phone with the Steelers when Dallas screwed them by letting the Beagles swap picks. Lemon is like "why are the Beagles calling". He wanted to be a Steeler and the Steelers wanted him as well. It sucks we didn't get him as he would have been that perfect WR3 in our system. They really should have used a 4th or 5th rounder and moved up a spot or two or three to get him.

Hopefully, as I said in another post, they use a 4th to move up a handful of spots or a 3rd to move near the top of the 2nd round to get a player who will contribute right away. The OT they picked probably has a 25% chance of playing this year.

Now, I noticed a couple of things in Round 1.

There seems to be a greater need than ever for teams to have a professional cuddler on the coaching staff & a lifetime supply of tissues given the amount of sooky la-la's in Round 1.

Additionally, there were at least 3 cringy interviews (Proctor...ugh....Faulk....).....I mean, Fo Weel...(Lemon)...these guys you wouldn't put in front of a camera again...

Also- Caleb Lomu. There isn't a personification of a Patriots draft pick better than Caleb Lomu. The cringy dance in his pre-recorded profile. His Bill Bellicheck hair cut. His boring face with his boring family & his boring GF.

Thank God we got Max.

Good response. I think I am one of the few on here that thought the love for Dylan Cook was totally exaggerated. In fact the more he played the more of a turnstile he became. In the beginning he had some good efforts then regressed. I guess my frustrations lie with the fact we have spent good draft capital in the last few seasons. And the line is still a total work of progress. Given more experience Dylan might work out,we’ll see.

Yeah, that Texans game caused Steelers fans a bit of OTPTSD. Both Cook and Fautanu were abused.

I think his only sack was vs Aiden Hutchinson and I think Rodgers held the ball for 3.5 seconds. So it is still a sack but a little more forgivable.
For the record. I have no problem with our pick and understand the need. Like all on here we have our opinions. I had a favorite player targeted, thought there was a very small chance he would be there……and low and behold…..he was ours for the taking.
I don't hate the pick. I just feel it was a little bit of a reach and with a team offering to trade up I feel you mitigate your exposure by picking up a couple mid round picks. If you whiff with max but one of the two mid round picks becomes a starter then you are still ok. I mean I don't know if he would be on the board 5-10 picks later but I personally roll the dice. He does have a very high ceiling but my fear is we don't have the coaching staff and man power to develop him like he needs.
The safety from Oregon, whose hero was Troy P would have looked very good in B&G,and would have cemented our back end for years. I will watch Dillon’s progress with interest.

But in the meantime……welcome to The Steelers Max!
Yeah, he was definitely the guy I looking at. Him and Omar Cooper if they were dead set on a receiver. I know we signed a couple of safeties but having Dillon learning for a season and coming in on certain packages would have been a nice problem to have.

But I think their D is bordering on elite. I think Troy will grow from the experience. But yeah maybe they eventually move Troy to LT….

It's a different coaching staff. By all accounts James Campen is a really good coach.

FFL, I posted the Twitter/X link showing every snap Iheanachor played against David Bailey, the #2 pick and generally regarded as the most NFL-ready edge player in the draft. Bailey beat him once with a speed rush, and beat him another time on a running play that washed out completely, but saying that Max was "abused" is just false. I mean we can all look at the plays for crying out loud.
What was the time from snap to throw? If you watch the entire game you see AZ State went in with a quick one read game plan. If the QB had to hold the ball longer Iheanachor got beat every time. And he didn't just line up with Bailey every play. Romello Heights got a half a sack off him I believe.
Is Iheanachor a finished product? Absolutely not. But his showing in the Senior Bowl was something. He abused skilled edge rushers on the 1-on-1 drills and had a really good game. He is a guy with elite skills who is improving. If you criticize the pick because you think the Steelers needed a guy NFL ready day 1, okay, agreed. But the Steelers were just not going to find that guy at pick 21 in this draft. If you want a guy who is already a pretty damn good pass blocker, who needs to get better at run blocking but is somebody who in a reasonably short time could be a good LT, then Iheanachor makes more sense.
Someone asked me about him before the draft and my answer was simple. I feel if you go OL in the first you better have a year one starter. I don't think he is there. He might be 2-3 years away. Which would mean we are paying him to develop just to hopefully become good right before he cashes in on free agency. Just not an ideal situation. I hope he proves me wrong and is a day one starter and has a pro bowl or hall of fame career. That would be great!

Isaac took a step backwards as well last season I think he had some nagging injuries. I thought it was a mistake not resigning him for what he signed for to be honest.

LOLOL I thought the same thing!!!! I'm staring at some guys black silk clad butt thinking would be nice to see the pick.
Immortalized forever every time they show the pick in the future. The only way it could have been "better" was if his butt had an Eagles logo emblazoned all over it.

LOL. The Fan pointing out that Khan & Co. were out of the war room doing interviews after they made their pick. Despite still having a third of the 1st round left, their night was apparently over. This was truly amateur hour and they should be absolutely embarrassed.

A few things. Im not ******** on the pick. No way to know. He certainly has a high ceiling and is extremely athletic for his size. But as far as him playing next year.
If you look at AZ St. Schedule the guy he goes up against every week in the NFL will be galacticly better then anyone he faced.
He's had at best three years of good coaching. And that's assuming that AZ St. Has good coaching.
* The good part is they should know. You can put him up against a top 5 edge with I still think has possibility to be best at position as a barometer.

Good summation…
But I believe two possibly 3 NFL ready players at that pick last night..
Lee Hunter
McDonald DT
And possibly Rodriguez, the ilb of Texas Tech..
Someone would say maybe one or all 3 would of been a reach at 21, but I believe all three of them will be starting somewhere in September

Although I would love to hear Hines Wards honest opinion of our first round pick

I wandered WTF this OL crap in the first round. OL in the first round better not be a "project"...... Then it started to leak out that Philly pwned them.

I guess it is the year for getting pwned by Philly.

We cheer for the FG to miss in January. And I will every time but there are consequences. Not many are not projects at some level. There are usually 10-15 guys with production, tangible in the first round. They are not usually available at 20 plus where the Steelers have drafted almost perennial.

They did that to almost everyone. Not writing the story based on that single page. Not in that offensive scheme. We have new more experienced coaches a new scheme. 4 coaches who ca coach OLine and a head coach who wants to develop guys. I am good with where the line is headed.

That is actually nuts. We got embarrassed twice on draft day in a row while the draft was in Pittsburgh!

And yet there are the forever apologists here who wouldn’t criticize the Steelers if their lives depended on it. We got taken to the woodshed and totally embarrassed.

Which parts exactly are assumptions?

Odd how 95% of fans, media, etc are calling this a colossal failure, but since a few yinzers on here are saying it's great, we should be happy about it....
The entire take

Highlight reels rarely show the real story. Watch the AZ state vs Texas Tech. Max gets abused.
He also did well vs the top edge taken in the draft with the 2nd pick
two sides to every coin

I'm not saying he'll be great, simply saying all these arm chair GMs with their wooden nickel takes are effin absurd.
How many of these morons spewing ever watched an entire game of his in college?

Like all the picks for every team it will take years before they can accurately be graded

Must be a **** ton of time travelers on this board racing back from the future with all their "knowledge"

LMFAO

Like this every draft

Word on the street is his head is too big!!!

Yikes, the sky is falling

Happy day 2 of the draft

I predict tomorrow many panties will be pissed again

so...they weren't contemplating trading away assets to move back into the 22-32 range

By the way many of the "experts", since you love their takes so much, said that 20-almost 100 will offer similar quality players

How dare they want to take 4-5 swings in that range instead of wasting assets?

You would've bitched had they traded up too
and then bitched about the selection too
Bitchez gonna *****

I'm waiting to pass judgment. Gotta replace Jones and Seaumalo ... gotta start someplace.
As far as WRs go, the stillers usually find a diamond in the rough. See: AB, Randle El, Emmanuel Sanders, Pickens....
