Spillane and Bush. An eight-game statistical comparison of their last games played.
Bush
Total tackles 47
Tackles for losses 3
QB hits 2
Passes Defended 3
Interceptions 0
Fumble recoveries 0
TD's 0
Sacks 1
Spillane
Total Tackles 44
Tackles for losses 4
QB hits 3
Passes Defended 4
Interceptions 1
Fumble recovers 1
TD's 1
Sacks 2
Takeways: Bush was on the field a bit more during his 8 games in terms of snaps, so his stats should be a bit better. But they really are not. In addition to the above numbers, Spillane has a lower missed tackles percentage this year. 11.8% to Bush's 13.3% and is making more " Splash Plays " in terms of Tackles for losses, QB hits, Passes Defended, Interceptions, Fumble recoveries, TD's, and Sacks. The data is the data, it has no agenda.
My Conclusion: With a larger sample, I think Spillane has proven to be even with Bush, and rates slightly better in terms of coverage, splash plays, and tackling ability. Yes, Bush is faster, but he's also shorter and IMO not as intuitive or alert. Next year, the two should make a fine pair.
