Someone needs to be fired after this game

I can blame Tomlin for having no answer to Allen lined up in the slot. That's why Marcus Allen is active, to guard the middle guys. Nope a LB. Bad move.

But I also can't blame Tomlin for the worst false start that I've ever seen, that wasn't called on the first TD, the bad bounce on what should have been a defended TD on the 2nd TD, the 2 blocks in the back on the PR TD, or the illegal snaps by the LS on the FGs.

It's a game, and it just wasn't our day.

Are you confident these coaches can get the Steelers back to the SB and win it?

Look there never should have been a tiebreaking kick... the first one he wasnot offsides, on all three the center flinches the ball before snapping it... clearly against the rules but the refs even said they were letting this guy do thatcause he has done it his whole career... it was as absurd a statement as ever was made...

I mean i like the blame game as much as anyone but this was clearly as close to an outright fixed game asive ever seen... i think the league is just pushing for an all LA super bowl... the chargers have gotten every break all year, not just this game...

I wouldn't be surprised (none of us should) to see Butler gone at the end of the season. The Steelers just don't fire coaches midseason or go and sign quality back up players...wait...

So 9 other guys couldn't have make a tackle?
As painful as it is to watch that play a few times, what you'll notice is that the first 2 guys downfield do their jobs. The first guy downfield forces the runner to the right, directly INTO the path of the 2nd gunner. The 2nd gunner was in a position to either tackle the returner or slow him down at the very least and prevent him from getting speed up to make a cut. Unfortunately just as he comes into the point where he can make a play, he is very forcibly shoved in the back and directly to the ground. If you watch it a few times, you can see he wasn't lightly pushed, he was driven into the turf.

That freed the returner to get some speed up and make his cut that sprang him.

Had the 2nd gunner not been destroyed, it is very unlikely the returner gets a TD.

even if the 2nd gunner doesn't tackle him, he would be slowed allowing other players to get into position.

Even with Allen being covered by an ILB all game, our D allowed 26 points. That is only 3 more points than the 10-1 Rams allowed the chargers.

Rams D has some pretty big playmakers on it. 7 other of the Chargers games they scored 25 or more. They scored less than my magical 21 points, once. I assume those other teams were doing something different and it didn't seem to work that well, either.

Did the Rams go all the way across the country and play in a hostile environment. You can not dress up the pig the Steelers defense is under Tomlin.

Lol...be sure not to keep any perspective.

The cross country argument would have been a valid point had the game not flexed to a 8:20 start. They gained 7 hours on game day from the flex.

Still flying across the country, playing in a hostile environment, and going against a team that usually does well on prime time is no easy task. Couple that with the fact we blew a 16 point lead.

I was not able to watch the game. I have heard all about these horrible calls the refs made. Can some tell me how many there actually were, please? Thanks in advance. :)

So travelling 3,000 miles is offset by 7 hours of delay, LMAO. We play horrible on the west coast historically even against horrible Raider teams, I guess it is all coincidence not the long long travel and 3 tine zones.

I was trying to give some perspective.

We gave up 26 on D. I cant think of anyone here who wouldn't trade our D for the Rams D. Yet for all that much better talent and "coaching" they gave up only 3 points less while we covered Allen with an LB.

Rams also gave up more to KC than we did.

Couple that with how much the chargers have scored in other games, maybe, the D performance was not 5hqt bad after all. Especially, if you throw in a free TD by the refs.

There was a article by a publication (Bleacher Report? Sporting News maybe?) Don’t know which one, but there were 11 plays with obvious recognizable infractions not called or called with no visible evidence. This was total between both teams.

1. Flagrant offside by Chargers RT, no whistle blew, Rivers throws a TD pass. Both Tackles were getting quick pre snap releases throughout the game.

2. Holding penalty against Foster, where the defender actually locked Foster’s arm during the block. This occurred on the opposite side of where Conner was, who had a 30 yard run to the 25 yard line.

3. Al called for holding during a screen pass. Negated a positive gain to set up a short line of gain for a 1st down. Could have been considered a hold, but Bud and TJ was getting held much worse all game without any calls. In fact only Ola was able to get the holding call, because he got arm whipped right next to Rivers.

4. The very next play, on a punt return for a TD, Brian Allen was obviously pushed from behind right in front of the official. No call. There was another block in the back (they said a LB but tape seems to show Rosie Nix) that went uncalled further up field.

5. The FG attempt to win the game, Joe Haden was called offsides when replay shows he wasn’t. 2 other Steelers (IMO) were in the neutral zone, but Warren Sharp’s video analysis obviously shows from the 22 video right behind the back judge the LS moving and rotating the ball before the snap to flinch the defense in jumping early. That is considered a flagrant violation and would’ve resulted in a 10 sec run off on the clock and then OT. Per the video, the LS did it on each subsequent FG attempt and caused the defensive line to jump the snap. All with no calls from either the back judge or head-linesman.

Even from the first attempt, had the offside been legit, Haden was blatantly held across his neck and shoulder and pinned down upon crossing the line of scrimmage. That wasn’t called either.

The others infractions or lack of one being called were related to defensive holding by both teams. Hargraves got away with a hold on a guard and one of Rivers 3rd and long first down passes, the receiver (not Allen) pushed off to gain separation was missed completely.

There was discussion this morning on the morning drive about, a play I didn’t recall, but it involved Fort on a 3rd down stop. It appeared he knocked the ball out of the players hand and it was called an inc pass. However, the video shows that it was actually caught with two feet down and a football move before it got punched out. So that should have been ruled a fumble, of which Williams or Hilton picked up, before the whistle blew.

In any case, the game grade for the officials are not released publicly or even to the teams. So we will probably never know what the NY offices determined. One thing was said on the radio that Ninovich’s crew won’t be playoff eligible. Although that may be because of the other blown call a few weeks before.

Confident? Not sure

Can they do it? Yes.

This league is full of **** defenses. You win with offense, and the O has to keep scoring to win. The Rams are supposed to have a great D and they still need 40+ points and still lost to New Orleans. Every team can get scored on in this league, it's the offense game plan that means everything. And on D you get 1 turnover and you win. Steelers catch that Int on the SD TD, and that's ballgame.

ARE you saying that the NFL is absolutely legitimate and NO fix in. It's not a conspiracy theory when the writing is on the wall. The BIG MONEY goes to great lengths to conceal the obvious and markets that point very well to make the general public oblivious to the fact. BIG MONEY has never stood by and just let chance play it's way out. Again,.........you play this off as two crazies making stuff up when many a things show otherwise. How HONEST do you perceive the NFL to be........??????...................Again wake up

And there lies the problem.

And where my confidence level falls off.

What are we in the turnover battle? I know it's NOT in the right direction. Cope is 100% correct with yes they could win but slash brings a very legitamit concern. Our problem is deeper than turn over battle as we now have a questionable running game (HOPE that plays out to the better after this week questions are answered positively). I feel this TEAM can win and win big if we hold it together as a team and play what is given on both offense and defense. 3 DL sets ONLY and put SOMEONE anyone besides slow ILB on the field, every down if necessary and challenge them to beat with the run or comit to the pass either way, currently you've got them beating you in both departments. Like Chris Berman use to say........"that's why they play the game"

Another Point DIC, It's also time to roll to the empty set/Run and Shoot/ 5Wide offense. We can't defend it, neither can any other team in the league. If you have the talent, spread them out, and attack every play. Who needs a running game? Jaylen is built for that role.

Those offenses work great until you hit the redzone. We used to go empty set and 5 wide in the RZ all the time with Arians and we were in the bottom half of the league in RZ offense. If anything we need much better play calling inside the 5 yard line, seems like we always try to get too cute in that area instead of doing what we do best.

GREAT option Cope but I'd like to see a more hybrid of that scenario as in a LOT of single back motion or dual back with one motion set then flair other (just an example) but mostly one back motion. We have the talent and the OC who could pull it off. Roethlesberger is the typical QB who could handle the short yet hit the long but not quite disciplined enough for the take what they give. We could fair very well and maybe keep the "D" off the field some or oposition playing catch-up. The continuous RB in the backfield could serve dual purpose closer to end zone.

When we had Conner rushing for 100+ yards a game it makes no sense why we do not go more play action passing in the RZ and goal line. I would be willing to bet that if you look historically, 80% of the time that we play action pass on the goal line our TE was wide open for the TD. Yet we do that about twice a year. Just blows my mind. If we went I-formation and did a play action we would have 3 receivers uncovered in the EZ because we NEVER throw the ball out of the I-Formation. It is not rocket science.

FULLY agree Steeler Pride, for the likes of me that seemed like the MOST favorable play we've USED the absolute least in our arsenal. I'd love to have our 100yard rusher but lately we don't. We can still keep the opposition questioning run / pass but can only do so by consistently a RB in the backfield. Anxious to see this upcoming game.
