So much for this potent offense we were supposed to have....

Kind of interesting that some pooh-pah the losses of players on offense to just Bell being injured YESTERDAY. When in fact the Steelers have been without:

1) Their starting All-Pro Center for all but a handful of plays.
2) Their starting All-Pro RB for a total of 2 1/2 games (and now the rest of the season)
3) Their becoming a superstar #2 WR for 5 games
4) Their LT, recognized as one of the best technicians at his position, for 2 1/2 games (lost for the season)
5) Their HOF QB for 4 games

So, while other teams may have had injuries to a key player, none have been hit as hard as the Steelers Offense this year. You want to talk about how injuries to even two key skill players affect a team ... Look at Dallas. 0-5 since Romo and Bryant have been injured. And that's with just two key skill players lost.

Losing your best players to injury/suspension lessens your chance of winning. That's not an excuse, it's a fact.

Wait, Kelvin Beachum has become one of the NFL's best left tackle "technicians" (whatever that means) AND he's now one of the Steelers' best players? You mean the same guy who led the team in sacks allowed in 2014? The same gentleman who's had 8 penalties in his last 8 games, including 3 holding calls and 2 illegal use of the hands flags? That technician?

When did this happen?

Yes, the Steelers have had their share of injuries and suspensions, but please do us all a favor and don't try and compare the impact of losing a game-changing wide receiver like Dez Bryant to missing a run-of-the-mill left tackle for a few games.

the next time Brady whips our ***...
will be because he is hearing our defensive signals in his earpiece. God's honest truth there. That and about 30 OTHER things the P*ts are doing to cheat in the game...

I'm partial to Super Bowls wins myself.
Then you're partial to the Steelers as they have more than any other team, and you're particularly fond of Ben as he has 2 that he's helped win fair and square without cheating. You're also a bit pissed at the Patriots for stealing our radio signals and jumping a wide-receiver route on an offensive play in an AFC Championship and getting an interception Ben's rookie year to steal a game.

Unless of course you're a closet P*ts fan. Then you're one of those guys who believes that it doesn't matter what you do to win. In that case, let's just go in 4 seconds after the whistle and destroy Brady's knees. And after they eject THAT defensive end, on the next play go in 6 seconds after the whistle and destroy the knees of the backup QB. And after they eject THAT guy go in 8 seconds after the whistle and take out the knees of the 3rd string emergency QB's knees. THAT ought to be enough to win the game. It may even wrap up the P*t's season. Whatever it takes to win, right? It's not cheating - everyone plays hard! It's just aggressive football. It's a simple misinterpretation of the rules. As I've said before, just sign some hearing impaired players to your defensive line. No problem whatsoever! Hell, I'd challenge that you can even penalize those guys. THEY can't hear the whistle! It's not THEIR fault the league doesn't incorporate lighted whistles. I say we blame Goodell for not taking the special needs of hearing impaired players into consideration. Frankly he's pretty inconsiderate.

In fact, Brady and the other P*triot QBs should pay whatever fines the NFL (whom we now know can't even administer fines) may choose to hand down against those poor unfairly singled out disadvantaged fellows. It's good for the league, it's good for the P*ts, it's good for America!

After a 4 week layoff any QB would have issues. Some of y'all need to learn to manage your expectations.

Including decision-making ? Hell Rodgers missed 8 weeks in 2013 and on his first game back amassed 310 yrds and 33 pts vs the Bears (on the road). Manning missed a whole year of playing and played well in his first game with Denver (which happened to be against the Steelers). Rust I can understand but his decision-making was bad. Those reads were rookie-like. Its 2015 not 2004 anymore.

Brown got full of himself, cried the blues yelled at a third string QB and then did not show up Sunday. How could Brown or Bryant not get open when they are suppose to be speedy. I watched the replay and both would run a pattern and stop even the couple time Ben kept the play going they were no where to be seen. Brown even on the interception ran past the play and made no attempt to come back and tackle the defensive back. Do we ever run routes across the middle if these two are suppose to be so fast, we get burnt on that pattern each week. Where was Wheaton if every year we hear this is his year. Ben was off but you should expect that coming back when he did with a brace.

Lost our starting C for probably the season. Starting LT done for the year. Ben out for 4 games and not 100%. Bryant missed the first 4 games with suspension plus a 5th. Bell missed the first two games and now is done in week 8 for the year. We played with a guy who besides a few bombs could not throw a forward pass for **** in Vick and got a great effort from Jones in relief even if his next start at KC wasn't up to par.

Yeah you can say the offense isn't explosive. The year of the injury is beating us down. Hope the team can overcome, at 4-4 we are right where the coach haters want us to be. Gonna need a Tombert Forum on the board away from the Football Forum.

there is no debating the fact that the steelers have sucked in converting touchdowns in the red zone. and this has been over an extended period. A good bit of that falls on the QB. Not a shot, just true

I would say it reflects MORE on personnel use and play calling than the play of any one individual player.

Another point about sunday's loss: I counted at least 4 times where Ben put the ball on the money and our receivers didn't make the catch. Yes, Ben will throw 3 or 4 bad passes a game, but if the revivers make caches on those GOOD throws, he doesn't have to force the issue while trying to come from behind.

But we lead most of the game. Those miscues contributed to us falling behind and eventually losing.

The point is that if the receivers make those catches we probably aren't trying to pass the ball or make something happen. The last INT we were down 13-10. The sideline one, which i agree is a bad decision on Ben, we are up just barely. If, at that point, the 4 drops had been caught and gained us another 10 points, then the score is 20-6. That changes the flow of the game, the play calls and, in that situation, Ben is way more likely to just chuck the ball out of bounds.

Ben doesn't chuck balls out of bounds....Ben either makes a throw or takes a sack. But you hardly ever seem him concede on a pass play and chuck It out of bounds

Early in the game he threw one into the ground when a screen play was read and blown up by the Bengals D. Later he threw one away out the back of the end zone through the goal posts. Two examples from just the last game that prove your statement false.

Rodgers also threw for 77yds last week when healthy

Rodgers was also facing the #1 pass defense in the NFL on the road, not the 23rd-ranked Bengals at home, if we're going to nitpick.

Didn't face it like you would expect the "greatest qb on earth" to. Also when his mobility was limited (like Ben last week) he threw for 178 w/2 ints in the playoff loss last year. Hope we'll get to see how a healthy Ben does in Dec.

I wouldn't really say playing through a torn calf muscle is the same thing as being rusty.

Aaron Rodgers has been one of the most consistent performers at his position in the history of the game. You can't say that about Roethlisberger. Ben had 14 touchdowns and 0 interceptions in three mid-season games last year, then proceeded to have 4 TDs and 5 INTs in the following three outings.

In the game you mentioned, Rodgers had a quarterback rating of 69.7. He's had only 2 other games below an 80 in the last 5 seasons. Ben's had 15 such efforts over the same time frame.

You care to continue?

Ben willed his team to two SB victories and three SB appearances

I tend to care about what really matters

Ben willed his way? Sorry Ben was horrible in the first super bowl he didn't will **** and let's not forget the horrendous game he had against the jets to get to his 3rd super bowl. You can easily say the team carried him to 1 superbowls win and another appearance. Has there ever been another qb who played that bad in a Super Bowl and champ game to win them

Last time I checked, when the Steelers played the Packers in the Super Bowl, Rodgers was winning the MVP award while Ben was throwing interceptions.

But of course rings are the best way to assess quarterback play...that's why Mark Rypien, Trent Dilfer, and Joe Flacco are all superior to Dan Marino, right?

Ben will never be one of these perfect guys, like Brady or Manning in his prime or even Rodgers. Guys who look smooth all the time. Those of you who expect that, well, that is your fault for putting your expectations up there. He will look great, but you are going to get a few stinkers. That is normal. What is abnormal is a guy like Brady. He just does it so much that we expect our guy to be able to do that as well all the time.

Well Manning's pick six in the Superbowl that sealed the win for the Saints wasn't too smooth.

My question has always been. Does he work as hard as those guys?
I mean that in all sincerity...I don't know.

If he does then I can accept that this is just who Ben is. If he doesn't then why?

I never hear anyone say that his work ethic and preparation are second to none. Why?

Early on we heard the opposite. From his own teammates even.

Then the comment made by Emanual Sanders when he got to Denver.

I remember hearing a report last season when I think they were getting ready to play cinci.
The big news was when practice ended Ben went into facility and yelled to Wheaton I believe and said " hey we aren't done yet "
And then worked a additional 20 min on routes. They were talking like this was something they never seen.

I love the guy and if I knew in my heart that be puts everything he has into his craft then I can easily accept his good & bad.

I just am not sure if he does or not. I am not there.

I do know he hasn't seemed to have his old magic in sometime. Yes there are parts of his game he has really elevated, and you see he has matured as a QB. I just can't recall in a while when he shined in a big game or had his magic.

He was outplayed on his home field by Joe Flacco in the playoffs last year. He hasn't won a playoff game in a looong time.

That was a huge huge game Sunday against the Bengals. That they needed to win. The division was in the balance and with a late lead he threw back to back pics.
I am sure he will bounce back as he always does and play better today but that's just it. We needed your best last week.

Some of you guys take this stuff way to seriously. I cheer just like the rest of you, but in the end, it is just a game.

We are all well aware that it's just a game. This is a site where folks come to talk about football. It would be pretty boring if every post was just some version of "Go Steelers!!"... wouldn't it? Reading everyone's opinion is what makes coming to this site interesting. Every thread could ultimately be summed up by saying something to the effect of " what does it really matter, it's just a game".

unfortunately there are a few that only want the "go Steelers" stuff here...
